OGDEN – Weber State volleyball head coach, Jeremiah Larsen, is excited to announce the hiring of Matt Kuelpman as a new assistant coach.

"We feel fortunate to be able to bring someone that coached at a top 25 program to Weber State," Larsen said. "We set out with this search to find someone that will enhance our program, who will fit into our culture, and someone that will match the passion that our players have for what we are doing. Through this process, he impressed us in how much he believed in Weber State Volleyball, and how he wanted to be a part of it. His great volleyball IQ and work ethic will help us as we strive to compete for a conference championship."

Kuelpman comes to Weber State after spending the 2018 season at Cal Poly where he helped the Mustangs to one of the best years in program history. Cal Poly finished the season with a 25-3 record, a Big West Conference title and an NCAA Tournament. Cal Poly was ranked as high as  No. 11 in the AVCA Top 25 rankings and finished the season as No. 22

Before Cal Poly he served as a coach at Harvard-Westlake High School in multiple capacities from 2016 until July 2018, serving as boys junior varsity head coach, girls freshman head coach and varsity scout in addition to being the head boys varsity coach.

From 2015 through July of 2018, he was also the head coach of Loyola Marymount's men's and women's club volleyball teams. He was also a volunteer assistant for the Lions' NCAA women's volleyball team in the spring of 2016.

Kuelpman originally hails from Villa Park, California and attended Orange Lutheran High School where he played volleyball all four years before graduating in 2011. He then went on to Loyola Marymount University where he played on the men's club volleyball team for four years, serving as captain his senior year. He was also named LMU Club Sports Male Athlete of the Year in 2015. He graduated in May of 2015 with a Bachelors in Business Administration.

"I am very impressed by what Jeremiah, Kayla, and the program have been able to accomplish in the past couple of seasons," Kuelpan said. "After speaking with them about their plans for the next few years of Weber State volleyball, it became quite clear to me that I wanted to be a part of that future. I am excited to get started in the gym so that I can add my bit of momentum to this program that is already moving very quickly in a great direction."
