The Wylie Police Department is dedicated to providing services to crime victims and their families. Our goal is to reduce the emotional, financial, physical, and legal effects relating to the traumatic experiences of being a victim of a violent crime.

Services provided include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assistance in applying for and filing for the Crime Victims’ Compensation (CVC) claims
  • Safety Planning, including referrals to shelters
  • Crisis Intervention, crisis counseling, and counseling referrals
  • Notification of Victim Rights
  • Court Accompaniment for Permanent Protective Order hearings and Grand Jury Subpoenas
  • Assistance with obtaining a Protective Order
  • Assistance with Evidence Return
  • Criminal Justice Support and Advocacy
  • Referrals to appropriate social service agencies
For preventative measures and community engagement, the Wylie Police Department offers community resource referrals, crisis assistance, and appropriate caring support to citizens.
Resource referrals can be made to meet the immediate needs of crime victims, such as food, clothing, and shelter.

The Crime Victim Advocate coordinates with Detectives, social service agencies, school districts, the district attorney's office, and local coalitions to ensure that victims receive updated information and referrals to meet their needs.

The National Domestic Violence Hotline is a 24-hour resource that can provide you with confidential information, support, and referrals. You can call them at (800) 983-9933. In addition, there are local domestic violence shelters that can provide emergency shelter, counseling, and referrals as needed.

FAQS

I was a victim of crime. I have been feeling anxious and having difficulty sleeping. Am I okay? 

It is common after a traumatic incident for victims to feel anxious and nervous. In addition, many victims experience difficulty sleeping, changes in eating habits, and difficulty focusing on simple tasks. Click here to view a list of normal reactions. However, if these reactions persist or cause difficulty with normal activities, it may be necessary to seek professional help. If you need assistance finding a counselor, please call our staff.

I filed a police report, and I don't know what happened with my case. How do I find out the status?

The Crime Victim Advocate can assist you in finding out the status of your case and explaining the process to you. Please feel free to call between regular office hours, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

I have heard about Crime Victim's Compensation (CVC), but I don't know if I am eligible. How do I find out if CVC can help me?

You can visit the Attorney General's website to get information on eligibility and application processing. You may view the safety plan to get some ideas on ways to stay safe as you decide what to do about your situation.

How do I check the status of an arrestee?

You can call (972) 429-8171 24 hours a day to check on the status of an arrestee housed in the Wylie PD jail. If the arrestee has been transferred to the Collin or Dallas County Jail, you can register with the VINE program (Victim Information and Notification every day) to get updated information on custody status. Find more information on the VINE program. Victim Services staff can also assist you with the registration process.
