I am doing cut and paste from a telephone book on the
internet, and each page after I do a copy, I then go into
excel and in the next blank cell I right click, select
paste special, and then "text". This puts the info down as
unformatted text which is how I want it. My question is,
could I assign for example Ctrl+", to do this automatic.
When I do the Ctrl=v IT DOES A PASTE ALRIGHT BUT IT ISN'T
TEXT ONLY. ANY IDEAS?

Next time you have to do this, just before you would normally do the paste
(ie. after copying, and selecting the cell you would paste to), go to
Tools>Macro>Record New Macro which will open a dialog box asking you for a
name and shorcut key for your macro. Enter the shortcut key (which must be
a letter), give it a name, and click OK. Now do the paste in exactly the
manner you normally would, then click on the button that stops recording the
macro (small black square).

Next time you want to paste special as text, just press the shortcut key
(with Ctrl) that you chose.

I thought ctrl+z would be handy, well at least until I
went to do a "undo"
also, what is the shortcutt to move to the next blank
cells. Example: I past a list of datawhich is 50 cells
long, and then I nee to get to cell 51 to paste in another
list of data. Is scrolliong down the only wasy or what?

What version has a "Text" option in "Paste Special"?

TIA

Press Alt+F8 then choose the macro from the list and select Options, you can
change the key assignment from there.

If you have just pasted data, while the cells are still selected press
Shift+Enter, or Ctrl+Down to get to the last cell.

Hi RD,

2k.

If you copy and paste a cell, the dialog box will be as you expect, but if
you copy text (from a text editor, or from within editing of a cell - i.e.
press F2, select text/formula/whatever then Ctrl+c) then do a paste special,
the dialog box changes to one giving various text format options.

This is the best way to paste from other applications, especially ng stuff.
Normal copy and paste from OE generally pastes as HTML or Unicode, but if
you paste as text, it is immediately usable.

If you press Alt+F8 or go to Tools>Macro>Macros you can edit and delete
macros as you please.

Hey Stunn,

When I copy from the NG (OE), say a formula, and "Paste Special" into my
XL97, I get a *"Special"* "Paste Special" window, with 3 options:
HTML Format,
Unicode Text,
Text.

Text or Unicode Text enters the formula into a single cell, and this allows
me to use the imported (copied) formula.
The HTML choice places the formula into a range of merged cells, as does the
choice of using "Paste" instead of using Paste Special at the outset.

This "Special" window comes up by itself, automatically.

Is this what you and the OP are talking about?

I was under the impression that there was a version where the "Normal"
PasteSpecial window included a Text option.

Regards,

RD

Hi RD,

Yes that's the one I (and I assume the OP) was talking about.

Is my nickname still showing up somewhere, are you lurking in another
group that I frequent, or is that your memory at work? Either way it's
good to hear/see it here.

Cheers,
Steve D.

I remember your post, stating your acquiescence to the "society" of the NG
<g>, which saddened me to whatever slight extent.

Since it doesn't hurt anybody or any thing, I tend to be slightly
independent when it comes to inconsequential matters ... such as using a
handle that is inoffensive in sound and meaning (it happens to be my
profession).

But, this can open a can of worms, just as cross OR multi-posting, top OR
bottom posting, attaching files, or posting something that Harlan finds
objectionable.<vbg> (Sorry Harlan, think I picked on you twice today)<g>

Regards,

RD
(which doesn't mean RagDyer, but Rick Dormack)
