CHAMPALIMAUD CLINICAL CENTER: As part of the AMA Queensland Annual #conference we had the opportunity to visit this state-of-the-art #medical, scientific and technological institution in Lisbon... The innovative ideas they have implemented from all over the world were absolutely amazing. A place where patients can have their treatments in a relaxed setting such as a garden or a view of the water with the latest technology and state of the art equipment. It is a place where doctors, patients, scientists and researchers can be under the same roof creating a personalised medical practice of excellence while working towards curing cancer. As you walk in you can see a laboratory on the floor above, it is called the window of hope (photo below) to remind patients they are trying to find a cure and after visiting I truly believe it is possible. We were also lucky to meet Dr Antonio Parreira, the Clinical Director of the Champalimaud Clinical Centre in Lisbon since 2011 (photo below). Thank you to Maria Joao Villas-Boas and Andre valente for your passion and presentation about the centre, the Antonio Champalimaud $1Mil vision award and the global challenges you see in healthcare and science. What a fantastic start to the AMA Queensland Annual Conference in Lisbon, Portugal. Day 1 was spent celebrating the arrival of all attendees at our welcome function. Even with the rainy weather we made the most of the day... Day 2 consisted of a half-day conference where AMA Queensland Dr. Brett Dale started the day off with a welcome to the conference. Following on we heard from a range of speakers today, including: 🌍 Dr. Brett Dale (AMA Queensland CEO) on Medicine in Australia and Portugal 🌍 Dr Maria Boulton (AMA Queensland President) on AMA Queensland update 🌍 Indra McCormick (Australian Ambassador to Portugal) on The bilateral relationship 🌍 Dr Nick Yim (AMA Queensland Vice President) on Building a healthier tomorrow, what are we weighting for? 🌍 Dr Manuel Cardoso (Deputy General Director for Intervention Service for Addictive Behaviours and Addictions (SICAD), Portugal) on Drug Policy in Portugal – a comprehensive and integrated 🌍 Dr Su Mien Yeoh (Endocrinologist) on Burnout… is it a myth? How do we tackle it? After such a busy day we ended it with a beautiful walk around Lisbon.
