The attempt was organised in celebration of the frozen hotel company's 20th anniversary. In their record application, a spokesperson for Iglu Dorf wrote: “As the initiator of igloo overnight stays in Europe, we want to show the world that we can build the biggest igloo ever.”

A crew of 18 people constructed the giant ice structure in just three weeks, using approximately 1,400 blocks of snow.

Once the igloo was completed, professional snow artists began decorating its interior and tourists can now visit the magnificent frozen building that will stay up for the remainder of the winter season.

The team's effort has outdone the previous record-breaking snow igloo, which was 8.1 m high and achieved by the TV team of Pro 7 Galileo (Germany) led by TV reporter Funda Vanroy (Germany), in Kühtai, Tyrol, Austria, in February 2011.
