“Victoria, will you marry me?”

Those words changed my life forever…just not in the way it would for most. I had it all until one fateful evening transformed my life in ways I never imagined.

Nine months later, I move to a sleepy little town, hoping to escape the demons of my past. As I attempt to claim back my life, Jude Montgomery enters my world, and things begin to change.

I thought running would appease the nightmares, but I soon discover my past won’t let go. Things are not what they seem, and I begin to question the world as I know it. Jude may hold the answers, but will my love for him blind me to the truth?

Does the flap of a butterfly’s wings in Brazil set off a tornado in Texas? In my case, yes, it does.

Will the truth set me free? Or will it imprison us both?

My name is Victoria Armstrong, and this is my story…I think.

So I bought this book back in 2020 and never read it. I finally did and I regret it.

That plot twist just made me so mad and yup from that point on I hated the book.
Don’t even get me started on the fucking epilogue.
I am mad rn

CHASE THE BUTTERFLIES: Is a full length, stand alone romance novel by Monica James.

This review will be as epoiler free as I possibly can make it.. It will also be without quotes..Because..Spoilers!!

What should've been a happy moment in twenty seven year old Victoria's life when the man she loved got down on one knee, didn't exactly turn out as one would expect.

NOW: Nine months later she moves to a sleepy town in an attempt to find herself again. She was a shell of the woman she once was. But an unconventional meeting ensues where she meets Jude the hotty neighbour from next door. He was imperfectly perfect but perfect for her. Together they chased the butterflies.

A slow burn that grabbed me by the heart and didn't let go. A gut wrenching emotional journey of finding her soul mate..

Holy Shit!! You know when you think a book is going to go one way and then a plot twist changes the whole story and you sit there thinking wtf did I just read!?! Yeah that happened!! A curve ball came at me out of nowhere and left me reeling in it's wake!! BUT it cemented even more why I love this authors words so much!!

As soon as I started this I was wrapped up in the storylne so much that the world outside ceased to exist!!

No words can describe how much I loved this book!! My review won't even do it justice!! Just go in blind come release day, don't look at reviews, sit back and love this story as it unfolds as much as I did!

The feels hit me in the heart hard with this one, out of nowhere tears flowed down my face, a heartbreaking breathtaking thought provoking read! All the feels in the world!

what the heck?! now i understand why the author implies in her authors note that this book has a crisis of identity. it doesnt fit into any type of genres. its a romance but also maybe with a hint of paranormal too. (??) this is one of my most surprising reads this year.

tbh the first 45% or so confused me the hell out. it felt a little choppy. i was fairly certain i was going to give it a three stars by that point. after i got past that and learned the truth, damn, i was instantly hooked. it felt like i was watching an episode out of Supernatural.

it was interesting, and it didnt go into the direction i thought it was gonna go. i didnt expect what happened bcs i thought i was reading just a regular contemporary romance. turns out, it was weirder and more unique than that. it flowed smoother in the second half.

overall, this book was different than any normal contemporary romance books and quite peculiar. i recommend that you pick it up. its one of those books thats best if you read it without first knowing much about it. just give it a go and let it surprise you like it did me!!

I want to consume you just as you’ve consumed every…single…part of me.
Everything I am, I give to you. Mind. Body. Soul. You own every part of me. That’ll never change. Regardless of our circumstances, I’ll love you for eternity.”

So I...
yeah so...
This was...
And then it...
...Yeah, I got nothing. Seriously. I can't even begin to process, let alone review what I just read. I have no idea. I really don't. Total and complete mindf*ck.

How do I even categorize this for you? I don't know what genre this would fall into. Unless there's a mindf*ck genre. Is there? No? Dang. But seriously, though. I am floored. Shooketh. Utterly SHOOKETH. This book took me right out of my comfort zone and then took a sharp left somewhere off of the everything I thought path and veered right into OMG lane. No lie. I read it with bated breath. With my jaw on the floor. With tears in my eyes. And when I finished? I immediately went back to re-read it. Because it's a story that's meant to be experienced twice. This also needs to be a movie. IMMEDIATELY. Because wow. WOW!!!

There's actual footage captured of me reading this book. Please find below for reference:

As you can clearly see, myself was SHOOKETH.

How do I even begin to review this book without spoiling it for you? I can't. I don't know how. This book needs to be experienced absolutely blind. Trust me. Tori and Jude's story will be unlike anything you've ever read. It's a story of undying love and redemption. It's a story of soul mates and heartache. It's a story that's as riveting as it is unique. It's heartbreaking and completely unforgettable.

Yes, my cynical self popped up every now and then. But the story was so unique that I was able to tell that bitch to stfu and sit back down so I can keep enjoying it.

If you're looking for something that's different an unlike anything you've ever read, do yourself a favor and read this book.

4.5 stars

You may ask, why 4.5 and not 5? Well I’ll tell you fellow book lovers. I only give 5 stars to books that I will re-read in the future, and as much as I loved this story... there is No way in hell I will be putting myself through that emotional rollercoaster again.

It’s taken me 24 hours to process what I’ve read so I can write this review. If I’d written it straight after I’d finished it would’ve gone something like this.

”WHAT IN THE EVERLOVING FUCK WAS THAT MONICA JAMES?!!!!!”

I’m going to let you in on a little secret now. I will never be the same after reading this book. I’ve been thinking about it all day. The passion and the emotion that Monica James bleeds onto the page, you can feel it in your bones. It makes me want to scoop her up and hug her, even though I also want to scream at her for the emotional mess that I am.

”Every scar tells a story. It’s a stepping-stone in one’s journey. Maybe one day…you could show me yours.”

Now I’ve got my ranting out of the way I will tell you the things I loved.

•Epic love story ✔️
•original plot ✔️
•All the feels ✔️
•Can’t guess the twists and turns✔️
•Will keep you on the edge of your seat✔️
•A complete and utter mindfuck ✔️
•Will need to send your therapy bill to Monica James✔️
•Have alcohol handy✔️

I can’t add too many lines I highlighted... even though I quoted a lot because SPOILERS.
I can’t talk much more about it because SPOILERS

What I will say is though... go in blind and expect the unexpected. Be open minded and prepared to have your heart put through the emotional wringer. Be prepared to message Monica James and threaten her harm if she doesn’t fix it. Because this book is no joke. It will ruin you and you will lose a piece of your heart to this story.

📚 "𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐚𝐲 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐛𝐲𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞? 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭." 📚

The book begins when Victoria celebrates her 27th birthday with Brian, her boyfriend for the past 10 years. 💙
They ate at a good restaurant and spent a pleasant time, even though he was acting a little weird... But once he stopped tying his laces *again*, she turns to him and find him on his knees with a ring. 💍
Excited and happy, Tori can't wait to go home to tell her sister Matilda the good news, but on the way to the car... everything changes - and the best day of her life, becomes the WORST! 😱💥

📚 "𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐚 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝— 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐞, 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧’𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭." 📚

9 months later, tori moves away to escape the demons of her past. There, in her new house at a small town she meets Jude, her hot and mysteries neighbor - and things begin to change again... 💙

She thought that if she'll run away from her past, she could be free... but Tori soon finds out that things are not what they seem - and Jude may be the one to hold all her answers! 😱

But will the truth set her free, or will make everything much complicated...?? 💥

📚 “𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞’𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫, 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦?” 📚

Listen carefully guys, someone has to make a movie from this book, like ASAP!!! 😱😱😱
It was special, unique, unlike anything I've read before! Full of angst, drama, heartbreak, mystery and love...

📚 “𝐈’𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬.”
“𝐅𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭?”
𝐇𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐥𝐦 𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭. “𝐀𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞.” 📚

I won't elaborate to avoid spoilers, but there were some parts that I didn't like and there were times when I thought I might be drunk (Well, I DID drink quite a bit of wine while reading! 😂) because I couldn't figure out what was going on...! 😱
But if you start reading this book open minded, you will surely enjoy it!!! 💙

And that cover...? goddammit, so HOT! 🔥🔥🔥

The first book that I tried to read by this author didn’t excite me. However, I liked the blurb of her new release and decided to read it.
I struggled to finish the 5th chapter, due to the slow development, no connection with most characters and soooo much narration.

Don’t mind my opinion, I am certainly not a member of this story’s target group. Dnf @ 20%

Now, that was something.

Note: If you want to read this book, don't read any reviews. Just go in in blind.

I really don't know how to review this book without giving any spoilers.

There are 4 stages how this book went for me:
Stage 1 : A slow start, but I have some patience. Plus there was Angus. Things might get better later on.
Stage 2 : WTF! Did that just happened?!
Stage 3 : Ooooo. Okay, okay. At least that makes some sense now. That's something new. Good. Great. Amazing!
Stage 4 : Bryan.

The plot was exceptional. The plot twist was really well-planned.
I would have given it a higher rating, but in the end... I had this one emotion overpowering everything : Poor Bryan.

🦋 Review 🦋

’Chase The Butterflies’
By Monica James

”An epic love story of two broken people who battled against all odds and found love…”

The above quote is all I can give you. It encapsulates all you need to know moving forward with this monumental novel, written by Miss Monica James.

But? And there is a but...
Past that quote, I truly don't know where to begin, so I'll just start with this...

I’m sobbing.
Ruined.
Heart aching.
Changed.
Read it. For the love of all that is predestined, read it!

You may ask, did Miss Monica bring all the broken pieces of my shattered soul back together? I can't answer that, even that's too much information. CTB takes you to places you don't want to visit, but like life, the only way you can get to where you need to be is by going through it. To go through it, there’s suffering, self-realisation & sacrifice. Acceptance. These things are the cornerstones of this story.

There are some characters you read & they just feel familiar. Whether it's their pain, their circumstances or character traits, it brings a level of knowing. The knowledge of what it's like to lose, to grieve, to feel passion, love & joy, to survive destruction at a soul level. Our major characters, Victoria & her Jude, both travel a fine line, at times reminding us that in the same moment we inherit the world, it can just as easily be taken away.

Victoria & Jude, travel that fine line as they are desperate to inherit their world with one another in it, knowing very well there are no guarantees. They ride every plane, hoping they'll land upright in one another’s arms, in one another’s life... They fight for one another, they sacrifice to the point where they give the term “if you love something set it free, if it was meant to be yours it will return to you”, meaning, depth... Life.

”How do you say goodbye to someone you love? You don’t.

Because love never gives up on you.”

The supporting characters in this book, particularly little Angus (oh my heart) & Charley, they really played their parts to the beat. They are positioned to support, an example of the people we need in our lives, the people that are the foundation to help carry the weight, our inner voices that challenge us when we need to be brave or to be better.

life is an adventure. It offers you a second chance—it’s called tomorrow, and come tomorrow, I refuse to regret today.

When thoughts are challenged it can be very confronting, & Monica challenges you thoroughly with ’Chase The Butterflies.’

If you've ever suffered with PTSD, or any trauma for that matter, you’ll understand the black hole that encompasses you & how it can alter your reality. It influences decisions from an unrealistic perspective, a desperate perspective. Victoria is faced to make decisions from a perspective she never thought she’d face & Jude is her North Star. Her deliverance.

”the thing about PTSD is that it doesn’t discriminate—it hates us all.”

”It’s through suffering that I have come to love the person I am.”

You may think you can predict the direction in which James takes you, but alas, many of you won't be expecting the book put before you. So push aside all preconceived notions, clear your head, armour up with tissues, take breaks, call in emotional reinforcements & just read the poetry that is Chase The Butterflies. This book isn't just a love story, it's an experience. A journey that isn't limited by imagination, but inspires it.

Victoria & Jude are soul assigned, inevitable & written across the stars. Their love is selfless. Their very heartbeats in sync, one another’s proof of life.

”I want you to know that. No one has ever fought for me. I was never someone’s reason to live. Thank you for making me yours.”

You won’t be able to put this book down.
It’s a TBR, a book for purchase, a movie in the making. A sweeping love story of epic proportions. James has outdone herself, Chase The Butterflies is a triumph & you will NOT be disappointed. This book proves James is a powerhouse, a woman who can write anything.

Book release December 5th. Add to your TBR now!

I'm a little stunned and don't know how to even begin this review. All I know for sure is that I loved the words, the feelings and the characters of Jude, Victoria and a little guy named Angus. And with the last page read, I felt as if I might have experienced an out-of-body excursion into the realm of the uncanny -- and begging for more.

There will be no spoilers in this review. Go into this book blind, and draw your own untainted conclusions. You'll find a romance that intrigues and mystifies, heartbreaking to the point of sobs, and breathtakingly beautiful as well. The characters and their story will leave an indelible mark on your heart. As the old saying goes, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, and each reader reacts best to this type of saga through their own interpretation. And keep in mind that hope springs eternal.

Kudos to Monica James for surprising and wowing me once again.

" See how she flies,” he whispers drawing me into his chest. " For she is beautiful and free “.

This was such a unique and beautifully written story. I know this book is very Personal to Monica and you can tell by the way it was written.

Going into this book I obviously didn’t know what it was about as it starts off as any other book. We meet Tori who had a traumatic experience the night her fiancé Bryan proposed and never fully recovered which caused her to pull away from those she loves. She decides to move back to a small towne to start over after Bryan cheats on her with her sister. That’s where she meets Jude. From the moment they meet they share this unexplainable chemistry and she feels like she knows him. He is somewhat mysterious and to be honest the entire towne is weird.

" I already have enough Angels looking over me. Now, you have your own Angel watching over you ".

While we got introduced to side Characters like Charley and Angus ( who I totally loved ) this book was very slow for the first 70%.
Leading up to the big reveal I was so confused as to why the characters acted the way they did. The entire first part of the book didn’t really make sense until I figured out what the secret was. When everything finally came together I honestly was hesitant to finish. I generally don’t gravitate towards books like these and in the off chance that I do I like to know from the beginning so I will know what to expect.

" Does the flap of a butterfly’s wings in Brazil set off a tornado in Texas? "

It turns out that she’s actually stuck in Limbo and Jude is the guy who saved her when she got Shot. He’s Dead.....and this entire story is a form of reality that she created to deal with her trauma. She’s stuck in a coma, after the reveal Tori and Jude confesses their love for each other ( which was a little far fetch to me) and she doesn’t want to return to her normal life because she’ll lose him. Jude is torn because he doesn’t want her to actually die, he wants her to live and experience the things that he couldn’t. After being in a coma for 9 months her family decided it’s time to pull the plug because she wouldn’t want to live like this. Jude knows time is running out and she needs to go back so he lets her go so she can live. Tori then refuses to cross over because she loves him and actually tries to kill herself in Limbo so she can stay. While she’s dying there’s lights and flashing and BAM she’s back on the pavement where Bryan is now proposing!
Because she loved Jude so much she altered time to be with him. So the story starts over and the only person who can remember anything is Tori.

I needed to include spoilers so you might understand why I could not rate this book higher, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the story and the writing is beautiful but this genre is not necessarily my favorite. In books like The Law Of Moses and Slow Dance in Purgatory I already knew what I was stepping into and it actually made more sense. I was able to better connect with the characters even though it was far fetched. I had a really hard time connecting to Tori & Jude and when I actually figured out they were both " almost dead “ It honestly did not add anything to the story for me.

Monica was sweet enough to gift me an ARC of this and even though this wasn’t my favorite book I want to say congratulations to her and thanks for sharing a piece of your dad with us.

A jednak.

Znaleść luźniejszy węzeł i zacząć szarpać go z całej siły.

I jeśli istniałaby nieskończona ilość światów, w każdym szukałabym właśnie jej.

Zostawię Was z nimi.

„- Pomyśl życzenie.”

A ciąg dalszy nastąpi…
.
.
.

This one threw me on a loop.
I wanted a contemporary Romance. Instead I got a Paranormal Romance.
I would have enjoyed the book more if I knew what I was getting into. The first 70% gave me a headache, it was so confusing, I got clues but It dint really make sense ... once things started to be explained it was okay to read ...
I liked the ending.

I went in blind and with an open mind and I’m so glad I did. Chasing Butterflies was my first book from Monica James and it definitely won’t be my last. I had an idea where the story was headed based on the first couple of chapters and I still enjoyed it very much. Monica James executed this story to perfection. Laying breadcrumbs along the way. It was like solving a puzzle and at the same time a beautiful love story unfolded. The characters were incredible. Omg did I fall in love with Victoria, Jude and Angus. I didn’t want this story to end!
Yes, this review is vague but I don’t want to spoil or give anything away. I want the reader to experience and feel this story. I sure as hell did. I need to read more from this author cause she speaks to me and my reader heart.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 STARS

Oh my goodness...this book brought me to the point that I could barely read past my overflowing tears. Just typing this review and thinking of what this book made me feel, is causing my eyes to well up. Monica James succeeded in creating a written work of art that captures all the emotions! Everyone has a story, Victoria and Jude's will draw you in and you can't help but connect with them as they work through their trauma and grief, to find their happiness. It's a beautiful transformation that truly resembles the metamorphosis of a butterfly.

This is one quote that I love and that I will remember always!

"It's not goodbye. It's good night."

This book is everything and is one of my favourites for 2019!!! Chase the Butterflies by Monica James is a rivetingly EPIC read and will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ARISTOCRACY!!!

I received this arc in exchange for my honest review.

☆☆☆𝚂𝚃𝚄𝙽𝙽𝙸𝙽𝙶 • 𝚆𝙾𝙽𝙳𝙴𝚁𝙵𝚄𝙻 • 𝙱𝚁𝙸𝙻𝙻𝙸𝙰𝙽𝚃☆☆☆⁣

Victoria (Tori) is experiencing one of the most exciting moments that a couple can have. Her boyfriend Bryan proposes marriage. But that moment is interrupted by an event that will change their lives forever. ⁣

Sometimes, at the worst moment of our lives, we meet a special person who accompanies us on our journey through this life. Jude is that person, the hero who rescues Tori, not once but twice. The encounter between Tori and Jude is enigmatic, fascinating and brilliant. Monica James brings us a wonderful and stunning romance with some suspense, hopes and a twist that will leave you surprised and happy about the way the story was developed. This is one of my best readings this year. Believe me, you won't want to miss it! Is a must read.⁣

***Highly recommended.***⁣

chase the butterflies is unlike anything i have ever read before. it breaks boundaries because it refuses to be contained by a particular genre.

the plot cannot be understood unless read and i recommend going into it completely blind for the full effect.

you will scream. you will cry. you will feel like your heart is being ripped from your body. you will not be prepared for what happens.

i received an arc for an honest review

I feel very manipulated.

I don't even know how to rate this as it was nothing like I was expecting or wanted at this time.

Read other reviews for POV on the book.

This is a 10 star read!! This book left me in tears, I definitely was not prepared for all the tissues I needed. The intensity of Chase the Butterflies had me captivated from the opening pages. Monica James has outdone herself as she delivered such a heartbreakingly beautiful story. This is what you call an epic read! My heart is bursting with so much feels and It was all consuming and left me with the chills. Jude and Victoria found solace in each other despite how broken they were. The love that flowed through their veins healed their souls and left their heart beating for one another. The delicate balance of life and death gives you perspective of taking destiny in your own hands. The metamorphosis to become something so beautiful isn’t always pretty but in the end it’s what you do with it that leaves you soaring. Bravo Monica! You ended my reading year with a bang!! This has joined my top reads of 2019!

I've just finished Chase the Butterflies book and OMG you guys! This story was unbelievable and very original.
I love it from the beginning to the very end. Monica James enchanted me with this magical story and I couldn't put this book down so curious with what kind of wild journey she'll take me with main characters. At first I was mad at author that she prepared that cruel fate for Tori and Jude but then, as a story went further I saw Mrs. James' twisted mind and where she's heading with this story.
I've never read book like this one so far.
I was surprised, shocked and captivated by the plot and I still can't believe what an awesome story I've read. Totally emotional rollercoaster.

I've been staring at a blank page trying to write a review for this book ever since I finished it... but there are just no words to describe this book or how it made me feel. Also, I really don't want to give any spoilers. This book needs to be experienced without any info, please go in blind and don't, DO NOT seek spoilers, trust me! Or this book won't have its desired effect or impact and won't be the masterpiece that it is for you. Because that is honestly what this book is... a masterpiece.

I've never read a book like this, EVER! And I am still so shook and amazed. You think you know what you're reading and then BAM... you are hit with the most epic plotwist ever in the history of plotwists. It was insane and I was reeling from it until the end of the book. From that moment onwards, there were so many tears and heartache, like my heart literally hurt for the unknown and for these characters and I couldn't stop reading... I just had to know how it all would end and that ending man... it might have been even more epic than the plotwist.

At one point, I thought this book wouldn't have an HEA but it did and it warmed my heart and had me in tears again. We get an open-ending HEA and gosh I pray to all the lords above that Monica gives us more of these two. Pls pls pls, it doesn't have to be a whole book, it can be a novella. I just want to see them together, happy, a few years down the line and to know how it all happened (darn, I wish I could be more specific here but I'll give too much away).

I just.... I loved this book with all my heart even though said heart was in a shamble of tiny pieces from reading it. I love these two amazing characters and their epic, crazy and unique love story. Monica's writting is unbeliavable and this book was nothing short of amazing. And I want more.
