USING THE LAW OF BELIEF
By Rev. Dr. Arthur Chang

During challenging times, the conscious mind, which is the executive mind, must view the battleground of complex and negative feelings with a take-charge attitude. Such times call for a cavalry of peaceful and clear-minded assessments with the view of overruling the spontaneous defensive response of the subconscious mind via the Law of Belief. These preloaded, hormonal weapons of protection, our fight or flight response, require a conscious override for a wise restraint. We must pause to unload this reflexive use of energy that shifted from our growth-response to the weapons of our hormonal fight or flight response. Biological science tells us that under stress, when we feel threatened, the energy of our body is diverted away from our growth organs, such as our heart, lungs and others essential organs to energize us to defend ourselves. This condition, if it is extensive or frequent, will negatively affect our organs and lead to diseases.

Although each person appears to be an individual, technically, we are not. We are made up of a society of intelligent beings we call cells—fifty trillion of them, in fact, which are governed by our mind. To give some perspective to this condition, we need to reflect upon the evolutionary science of the Earth. When the earth was two billion years old, there existed only single cell organisms. By combining single cells into a society of cells, biology sees the evolution of complex life as it is. Science now recognizes cells as intelligent individuals.

Psychobiology has observed that the subconscious mind controls 95% of our behavior and the conscious mind only 5%. This 5% is our miraculous, creative mind brings about change and novelty. The conscious mind provides us with access to faith. Within the subconscious mind is the Law of Belief. This is settled law. It will spontaneously respond to our life’s conditions unless overruled by the conscious mind.

If we desire a different or new behavior, we must introduce a new thought with faith. However, merely affirming this change of thought a few times may not be sufficient for the subjective mind to accept it. Like learning to drive a car, playing a musical instrument or using the cellphone, it takes many repetitions before the subjective mind, the habitual mind, will accept a new thought as part of the Law of Belief and make it our spontaneous response.

Establishing a positive, optimistic, peaceful and loving consciousness goes a long way toward keeping us as healthy as we can be. This is because our cells thrive under a positive consciousness. However, such a consciousness must be established by our conscious mind acting at the level of faith. On the contrary, stress sets up a negative consciousness for our cells and diseases flourish under this condition. To the extent that we set up the right atmosphere for healing, will we experience it. This fits in with William James’ insight that, “One of the great discoveries of my generation is that a man can alter his life by altering his attitude.” In short, there is truth to the old saying “Belief kills and belief cures.” It is our choice.

A sense of failure is an occasion for increasing stress. The Law of Belief holds our responses in its vault of memory and lets us relive the negative feelings to our detriment.

To set up a new healing response, treat failures as learning tools for improvement and not as pronouncements of who you are. Remind yourself, “I am a son or daughter of the God of the universe, made in the image of God, and I will accomplish my life’s mission.”

Thus, we must use faith through the conscious mind to reseed the subjective mind, the habitual mind, or the Law of Belief. This will weed out the old, negative responsiveness of the past and install a new way to deal positively with the challenges of our life.

As you find this better way toward your destiny, you may do well to remember Henry Ford’s insight, “Whether you think you can or whether you think you can’t, you are right.”

Be aware of how best to use the powerful Law of Belief and do it!

  Your Optimistic Future

The incredibility of life existing is an amazingly optimistic reality. If this is possible, then any dream we have using this same Universal Power and Intelligence is possible. The reality is, life is a profoundly optimistic affair and for the best outcome, should be approached in this manner.

Ernest's Corner

The Thing, then, works for us by working through us and is us, always. It cannot work for us in any other way. It spreads Itself over the whole universe and shouts at us from every angle, but It can become power to us ONLY WHEN WE RECOGNIZE IT AS POWER.
We cannot recognize that It is, while we are believing that It is not. Hence, it is written: “they . . . entered not in because of unbelief.” (Heb. 4:6) We may enter in because of our belief, but we cannot enter while there is unbelief. Here we come to a house divided against itself. If we say we can only experience a little good, then we shall experience but a little good. But, if we say, with Emerson, “There is no great and no small to the soul that maketh all,” then we may experience a greater good because we have conceived it.
Therefore, our belief sets the limit to our demonstration of a Principle which, of Itself, is without limit. It is ready to fill everything, because It is Infinite. So, it is not a question of Its willingness, nor of Its ability. It is entirely a question of our own receptivity.

Ask for help

Sometimes it’s just not feasible to navigate the tricky anxiety, depression, isolation and trauma by yourself. For those who have underlying mental health conditions, for those who have experienced past traumas, for people on the frontlines in medicine, and for people who are lonely, this moment can be especially tough. But there are a number of free, confidential resources to turn to for help. Here are a few:
