Monitor international warranty 2018

Hey there,

I haven't come across any up-to date information on Dell's International warranties for monitors. The support chat indicated that there are no international warranties for Dell Monitors but looking at this, it makes no mention of excluding monitors. It just states Dell products which I assume includes monitors. I've also seen a few posts on this forum regarding international warranty transfers although they might be dated. I'm looking to purchase a U3818DW from the USA, including the 5 year premium support, for use in India (where it is sold). Is that possible or is it true that there are no international warranties for monitors anymore.

To transfer the monitor warranty to a different country, it must meet all of these qualifications;
* The monitor has a Dell service tag number and Dell express service code on the rear label
* The monitor model must be sold on the Dell sales site of the country to which the transfer is going
* The monitor model warranty duration must match in both countries. Example, Dell USA sold it to you with 5 years of warranty. You are moving to a country that only sold that monitor model with 3 years of warranty. Result, you only get 3 years of warranty if you transfer the monitor warranty to that country
* Shipping damage = Dell will not cover any damage that results from shipping from one country to another

As you can see on the Dell compuindia website, we only offer the U3818DW Rs. 80,930 ($1122 USA) with a 3 year warranty. So if you purchase it from the Dell USA website ($1215) with 5 year warranty, then transfer it to India, you will lose years 4 and 5 of the warranty.

Thank you, Chris. That's a point I would have missed. I assume even the premium support won't be valid then?

In any case, thank you for the clarification - I'll move ahead with the purchase in the US and do a transfer of ownership.

On a side note, any idea why both the sales and warranty support teams I spoke to were adamant that I can't transfer the warranty for monitors, only laptops?

Like us, Dell compuindia offers the Premium Panel Guarantee. But, we would want a picture of the panel showing zero bright pixel defects prior to you shipping it to India. You would post it here on this thread as a record. If the shipping causes a bright pixel defect, we would not cover it.

They should have known that any Dell item that has a service tag number and is sold in both countries can be transferred.

Hi There,

Did you manage to successfully transfer your warranty to India? I am having the same issue. Dell sales and warranty support teams are telling me I cant transfer my warranty.

Hi Chris, 

I am looking at purchasing a Dell U2718Q monitor. At some stage I would like to transfer the warranty to Ireland. Is this possible?  From reading this thread other people have had the same issue. Dell sales and warranty support teams are telling me I cant. I can only transfer laptops and PCs.

On another note, do all monitors come with a service tag as standard?

Your post is here on the Care board. The Care representative will be back on Monday. Starting in mid 2015, all Dell monitors should have a service tag number and express service code number.
