At least one person is understood to be seriously injured after a wall collapsed in Birmingham.

West Midlands Police had earlier said a building collapsed but West Midlands Ambulance Hazardous Area Response Team later said that a wall had come down.

The incident happened just before 6pm on Vittoria Street in the city's Jewellery Quarter.

A second person was taken to hospital with minor injuries and police said the Health and Safety Executive have been informed.

Sky News correspondent Becky Johnson said at the scene that sniffer dogs had been sent in to search the rubble.

"There are reports that it was an internal wall and that they had been working on the building," she said.

She described the street as a row of terraced three-storey buildings, which appear to be mostly offices.
