About the author

Bio: Reading the Cozy Corgi series is pretty much all you need to know about Mildred. In real life, this author is obsessed with everything they writes about: Corgis, Books, Cozy Mountain Towns, and Baked Goods. They're not obsessed with murder, however. At least not at their own hands (nor paid for… no contract killing here). But since childhood, starting with Nancy Drew, trying to figure out who-dun-it has played a formative role in their personality. Having Fred and Watson stroll into their mind was a touch of kismet.

This was an Amazon “recommended for you” book and I decided to check it out because there was obviously going to be a corgi in the book and I have had several corgi companions. I read the first book in the series, Cruel Candy, and enjoyed it so much that I have read all the available books in this series. In order for me to enjoy a book It has to have at least one character that I think “I would enjoy knowing this person”. I enjoyed many of the characters. The characters are well developed and I got a real sense of who each of the main characters are. Her continuing characters have diverse lifestyles and personalities and are good, kind, generous and caring with enough quirks and minor flaws to make them believable. She also did a nice job of describing the town and the area. There is enough description to see the beauty of the area and feel the love the Fred has for the area without being overpowering or distracting from the story. The story moved at a good pace and left me guessing until the end. I also enjoy a book with humor that makes me smile. The other books in this series left me feeling upbeat. This ending was somewhat sad but still a great book. Another big plus is when you finish the book the story is finished. There are no loose ends to make you feel like you have to read the next book. I won’t read authors who do that.
Hallowe’en is one of my least favorite times of year, but I might actually enjoy it were I in Estes Park, Colorado. Especially seeing all the pets dressed up in their costumes. Watson is such a good sport, though a grumpy corgi through and through.
Poaching has been an issue in the town since long before Fred arrived. In fact her bookstore is located in a former taxidermy shop. Ick. Her good buddy Leo is a park ranger and when his new colleague Nadia is accused of murdering a poacher, Leo asks Fred to help. At first it looks like the cops have the right suspects but, as with most murders in Estes Park, all is not as it seems.
As always, Fred comes into conflict with the police only it seems the stakes are much higher this time as we’re introduced to Chief Briggs who really seems to have it out for Fred. More chaos ensues and as Fred gets closer to the truth, her life is in jeopardy. Nail biting stuff. The resolution of this book was not what I was expecting and part of me was sad to see the turn of events but I suspect we haven’t heard the last of certain characters.
I enjoy the narration of Angie Hickman in this series. She has the perfect voice for each character and gives a great performance every time. I can’t wait to listen to the next installment to see what trouble Fred gets up to now.
Thrilled to read the newest as autumn arrives in Estes Park with the golden leaves falling, the Elk’s Bugling cries, and Fred’s two closest friends Katie and Leo and of course her sidekick Watson, enjoying a final picnic as the smell of snow hovers. Halloween is celebrated by locals and tourists enjoying seasonal treats from the store owners who have placed tables outside each of their shops. Katie of course has outdone herself offering freshly made savory bruschetta and mozzarella pizza balls from the Cozy Corgi Bakery.
Unfortunately, this picturesque world is abruptly shattered by poaching of a bighorn sheep just yards from the friends’ picnic site, attempted burglary of the book shop and with Fred and Athena Rose from the Chipmunk Chronicles finding a dead body by the town’s bronze ram family statue.
When a fellow park ranger, fiercely opposed to poaching is arrested for the murder of the suspected poacher, Leo comes to Fred asking for her expertise. Fred, Katie, and Leo begin strategizing. Undaunted by police Chief Briggs calling her friends her ‘Scooby Gang’ and mocked and ridiculed for her own record in solving the town’s murders, Fred tries to tie together unanswered questions and odd behaviors. Even a personal visit from Detective Branson warning Fred to back away from this arrest, leaves Fred more confused and more determined to find the truth.
WICKED WILDLIFE is a story which grabs the reader from page one and refuses to let go. So many ideas are in the air with twists and new questions, Fred’s loyalty to her friends will make her act without her usual caution. With every chapter the reader becomes warier because there are simply no clear cut leads this time.
Great, great read, now I am off to roast garlic for Katie’s bread recipe. I need carbs to do a re-read!!!!

Of all the books so far, this has been the one I enjoyed the most!
The reading experience was particulary cozy due to the fall/halloween/holiday setting.
Also I found it to have more thrilling and exciting scenes, which I really enjoyed.
I really liked the direction the plot went in,as it tied up some loose ends from the previous books.
I just couldn't stop reading!
I am excited to see what happens next!
