Guns N' Roses Return To The Jungle
Guns N' Roses will be issuing a new video version of its hit, "Welcome To The Jungle," in conjunction with the release of the original band's live album due out late this month. GN'R manager Doug Goldstein says that the video is expected to make its debut on MTV's Total Request Live on Tuesday (November 9). The live album, Live Era: '87 -- '93, is now scheduled to drop on Nov. 30 on Interscope/Geffen/A&M Records.
The new video includes performance footage of the band interspersed with news events of the '90s. "It's very 'end of the Millennium' based," says Goldstein. "Waco, Columbine, Nike shoes, Rodney King… anything newsworthy."
A video for "It's So Easy" was shipped to MTV late last month and has been aired intermittently by the network. That release was a mildly modified version of an old but rarely seen video shot at the Cathouse in Los Angeles in 1988, with original footage of ex-wives and naked women replaced with still photos from a Robert John Guns N' Roses photo book.
As for releasing a second video so soon after the first, Goldstein says: "We just decided to put out another video, the idea came along, (video director) Jeff Richter did a great job cutting it, and we went for it."
Meanwhile, Goldstein says that he and Rose are still open minded when it comes to their search for a new guitar player to replace the departed Robin Finck, but also confirms that ex-Jane's Addiction and Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Dave Navarro is still very much in the picture.
Goldstein also verifies that the new GN'R studio album, due out sometime next year, will be called Chinese Democracy. He adds that the title has been a done deal for at least six weeks.
