Open Call for 2024 WBBA Community Arts Program
The  West Bank Business Association is launching its third year leading weekly summer and fall community arts and engagement events in the West Bank/Cedar Riverside Cultural District in collaboration with the Cedar Cultural Center, StreetWorksMN, Brian Coyle Center and the Cedar Riverside Youth Council, Sisters Camelot, Family Tree Clinic, Hennepin County Office of Violence Prevention, and individual artists and community members.

Over twenty weeks our arts and outreach events will transform underutilized commons areas into a platform for local creatives to engage youth, community, and visitors alike with pop up activities, music, and festivities every Thursday from 3:30-7:00 June through September. Via our partners each weekly event will feature basic needs resources aimed at serving our neighbors who are sleeping outside. All of this with the goal of boosting the district's reputation as a welcoming, caring, and vibrant place to engage in dynamic arts programming and celebrate diversity as one of our city’s beloved cultural districts.

We are looking to hire teaching artists, culture and tradition bearers, performance artists, musicians, and music acts to feature in our series.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the entire series is booked and we will reach out to applicants in a timely manner.

Feel free to select more than one area of interest if you feel you are qualified. Preference will be given to those who have a clear connection to the community in the Cedar Riverside area as well as those who identify as representing communities of color.

Helpful information:

Teaching Artists and Culture Bearers will work with a group of 20-25 middle and high school youth from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. Each session will pay a $150 stipend. You are also welcome to submit a supply list to the programs administrator ahead of your session to purchase up to $100 in supplies.

Performers, musicians, and music acts will be paid a $200 stipend for a one hour gig from 6pm to 7pm each week. A/V tech specs are limited and will be sent ahead of your gig. An A/V tech will be on site to assist.

All events take place outdoors in the Cedar Riverside neighborhood and will be staffed by WBBA with an on site program manager and public health nurse, an A/V and equipment tech, as well as professional trauma informed youth outreach workers through our partnership with StreetWorks Outreach. Complimentary food and refreshments will be provided for community as well as other special weekly give-aways.

Teaching Artists and Culture and Tradition Bearers Also referred to as artist-educators or community artists, as well as community members who engage in artistic or cultural practice to pass on traditional knowledge and offer cultural resources to their communities.

We are looking for individuals who wish to engage youth by offering workshops that welcome participants to try a new creative skill or activity. Each workshop will be one hour in length from 3:30pm to 4:30pm for each of our Thursday arts events.

Performers: We are looking for performers, musicians, and music acts primarily to perform music but we are open to other genres. Something to note, we have limited A/V equipment and cannot accompany a full band. We have two mics and stands and two small amps with limited electrical access as well as a portable PA and speakers. A/V specs will be sent to those who are selected.
