Dublins best outdoor walking Tours

Providing 2 very different bespoke Guided tours of the Northeast Inner city of Dublin in the area of Ballybough, Clonliffe Fairview and Marino.

All tours are provided by your local guide and social historian Sean Deegan who was born and reared locally in Croke Villas a street literally

”In the Shadow of Croker”

Sean also works for Dublin City Council Culture Company as a tour guide in

14 Henrietta Street, Dublins Tenement museum

which tells the 270 year social history of Georgian Dublin to Tenement life from 1751 to 1979 in one house.

Our Tours

There are 2 different walking tours

Tour 1 : Is a social History of Ballybough and Clonliffe

On this tour you will hear stories and visit the areas of The Irish Famine, The Irish National Anthem and its creation in this area, Bloody Sunday in Croke Park, the famous Poet and Playwright Brendan Behan, incredible local football stories, the history of Mud Island and its smuggling King and much more.

Regular tours take place on Saturdays and Sundays starting @ 11am

Private tours for groups etc. can be arranged for days and times to suit.

Meet at the Croke Park Hotel on Jones Road beside the GAA stadium.

The tour takes 2 hours and costs €10 euro

Tour 2:

1913-1923 Lockout, Easter Rising, War for Independence and Civil War

This tour starts in Ballybough outside the Clonliffe House Pub at the Crossroads with Clonliffe Road and Luke Kelly Bridge.

You will hear incredible stories of Volunteers in the Easter Rising, tragedies of the Civil war, visit the site where the 2nd Battalion of the Irish Volunteers trained and drilled in the build up to Easter 1916 at Fr. Matthew Park.

The Howth Guns from the Asgard in 1914 and Luke Kelly.

You will also see the house where Kathleen Clarke her 3 children and her husband Tom lived with her brother Ned Daly both of whom were executed in the aftermath of the rising.

See the house of the 1st Volunteer to die in Easter 1916 and the home of the Commander of the 2nd Battalion Irish Volunteers Thomas MacDonagh.

Grace Gifford and her tragic marriage to Joseph Plunkett, Harry Boland, the Battle of Annesley Bridge and hear of the death of young Emmet McGarry during the civil war.

Regular tours take place on Saturday and Sunday @ 11 am

Cost: €10 euro and takes approx 2 hours
