Prince Harry & Meghan talk vaccine equality at the Global Citizen Festival

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle speak at the 2021 Global Citizen Live Festival

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had a busy Saturday, which I assume was their last full day of their “New York tour.” In the late morning, they had meetings at the United Nations, and then by the afternoon, they were in Central Park for the Global Citizen Festival. This was the reason for their trip, although I think they’ve made it clear that they’re welcome everywhere and they’re treated like visiting dignitaries wherever they go.

For the Global Citizen appearance, Meghan wore a Valentino dress which retails for $4500. Again, she’s paying for her own clothes and jewelry these days so I have no idea why the British media is so obsessed (other than racism). Would I have chosen this dress for Meghan? Not really, but I get what she was going for – something looser through her midsection, but cute. She’s comfortable showing off her legs and that’s what this dress does. The detailing is very pretty, I’ll say that – there’s really nice bead work which you can only see in close-ups.

I saw a Daily Mail headline call the Global Citizen festival “Wokestock” and I was just like… really? Are we going to continue to do this? If you have that (dumbf-k) energy for the Sussexes, you better keep the same energy for when the other royals copy them poorly. Besides, Harry and Meghan were there with very concrete goals: to drastically increase global vaccination efforts and promote vaccine equality. Tangible issues with realistic goals, supported by world leaders and national and international public health policy experts.

  1. Sierra says:

I don’t know who has been styling Meghan for this trip but that person should be fired.

Meghan usually looks wonderful no matter what she wears but not this trip.

I want the style Meghan had when she returned to UK last year. Gorgeous colours with lovely clothes.

    • Winnie says:

You are aware she just had a baby a few months ago, right? She’s an extremely petite person and obviously still has some baby weight, which people don’t make clothes for. She has literally just worn her hair in a bun or down. Eff off.

      • Sierra says:

        🙄

Meghan wore lovely clothes after giving birth to Archie so yes, they do make clothes for women with baby weight.

      • Ines says:

@winnie, I’m hoping that you’re not implying that the only way for her to look good is to be super slim as she was pre-baby? I agree with Sierra. Her stylist should have done better.

      • Amy Too says:

I know everyone is trying to be nice but Meghan looks great, period. Not just for having had a baby or not just for this stage of the weight loss that we seem to be presuming she must be actively trying to make happen because she can’t possibly just be okay with this being her shape now. She has a great figure, period. She’s a working mother activist, she’s not a celebrity or a Kate Middleton type Duchess, but I think people are still trying to compare her to other celebrities. If I were her, I would be so happy that everything is not all about my body shape anymore after being an actress and then a Royal Family Duchess with all the beauty standards that are implied by being such. She can now spend more time on the important things because there is no director or casting agent or man in grey telling her that they need a “certain look” from her. Maybe this is what she looks like, now, forever. And that’s perfect! We don’t need to be trying to excuse her body or justify why it’s okay that she’s this size, and try to get people to just wait until she’s lost all the weight and then you’ll see how great she can look again. This is what she looked like after Archie for many months. Maybe she is 100% comfortable that this is just the shape of her body now. And it’s a perfectly beautiful shape. For anyone, of any age, regardless of pregnancy/postpartum status.

I have enjoyed everything she’s worn and thought she looked really good in it. And not just for being postpartum. Her clothes fit her, they’re stylish and interesting and pretty, her styling has been great, hair and makeup are good, nothing has been distracting or bizarre or Grandma like. Maybe other people just don’t like the style, and that’s fine. The first comment didn’t event mention her body or try to say that the clothes were “unflattering” or “emphasizing her stomach” or anything like that, so maybe they really just don’t like the clothes. But then when we come in with “it’s because she just has a baby! That’s why she doesn’t look her best,” that seems to make the whole idea of someone not liking what she’s wearing all about her body, when it wasn’t even mentioned. It’s like some fans think she looks a little fat, but they think she looks pretty good for being a little fat, so if anyone doesn’t like the clothes it must also be because they think Meghan looks a little fat, and then we get into the whole “it’s okay for her to be a little fat because she just had a baby, so this isn’t her real body, this is just her postpartum body that she’s obviously trying to change,” and it seems like in an attempt to be kind to Meghan, there’s some fat-shaming going on, but in a way that’s like “we can’t fat shame her now because she just had a baby,” but the unsaid part that I hear is it might be okay to fat shame someone else another time if they don’t have a proper excuse for why they’re not traditionally American celebrity thin. And the thing is, Meghan isn’t even “fat” by traditional “fat” standards. How thin are we expecting her to be and why? This is a very normal, even quite small, body shape for women.

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

People 100% makes clothes for Meghan if she wanted or her stylist wanted. They’re actively beating down the door. I think the rumors are true her bff Jessica Mulroney styles her still.

There are better dresses to fit her body right now and read well from the stage.

      • Pinellas Pixie says:

@AmyToo you can’t see me but I’m giving you a standing ovation.
        thank you.

      • GraceB says:

@Amy Too I completely agree. Every single body shape and type should really be seen as beautiful and perfectly fine. I know people will always get into the debate about health, which is a valid one, but it doesn’t make someone any more or less beautiful. We need to stop tearing women down.

People get far too caught up in their own opinions, forgetting that they’re not facts. A dress that one person thinks is stunning, another might think is ugly. Some people will love what Meghan is wearing and others will hate it. We don’t need to turn it into a competition about who’s opinion is right and who’s is wrong. Just because you like someone, also doesn’t mean you have to think everything they wear/say/do is great. It’s great that you want to be supportive but you are also your own person with your own opinions. Be true to them and respect other peoples opinions too.

The world would be a boring place if we all liked the same things. As long as the person wearing the clothes likes what they’re wearing, that’s really all that matters.

      • Christine says:

Amy Too, BRAVO! I could not agree with you more. Meghan looks amazing, happiness really looks good on her.

      • ANON says:

@AmyToo and @GraceB, thank you. I think comments like the above were well meaning. However, it is inappropriate to comment on another person’s “baby weight”—people should not be subjected to this kind of scrutiny at all. It has a toxic implication that women’s bodies are not acceptable as they are. We do not need to apologize for our bodies to live our lives.

        Also, she looks beautiful.

      • Moxylady says:

Amytoo- yes. Yes yea yes. No one has said anything about Harry’s flipping clothes!

      • Lorelei says:

@Pinellas I feel like I give @AmyToo a standing ovation at least once a day! Her comments are always so insightful.

      • Pinellas Pixie says:

@Lorelei you are so right. She is so often spot on.

      • Otaku fairy says:

@Lorelei and Pinellas: Agreed. I enjoy Amy Too’s comments.

      • BothSidesNow says:

@ Amy Too, brava!! We all need to sit back and read your words of wisdom!! We all live our lives as we want and wear what we want, but we aren’t under a microscope like Meghan is. We all need to protect each other, be kind to each other and accept that THEY have the right to live as THEY want, just like you living YOUR life as you want. What you wear, who you support, where you work are YOUR rights, so respect everyone else’s rights s well!!

      • Kviby says:

Amy too, we don’t know what her body looks like at the moment and that is just fine. No women owes anyone a post baby body update. Love that she’s covering up. Confused why it involves those wool coats though, can’t imagine NY is cooler than Montréal and I would be very sweaty wearing those. For a trip to NY I would wear something covering me and loose like her red outfit daily (but that was quite ugly) with flat shoes, covered up but not wrapped up for winter.

    • Haylie says:

She wasn’t 4 months postpartum during that March 2020 visit.I think she looks lovely. Some of this obvious salty nitpicking is embarrassing.

      • Fanciful says:

I loved everything she wore this trip. No one but meghan knows how she feels 15 weeks post partum 2nd baby at 40. It’s not anyone’s job to police that. She’s spent years being trashed and now being called fat! People have no shame. And re the coat police, she might feel cold. I do less than 85.. So sue me.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

I disagree. I think she looked lovely considering she only had a baby a few months ago. I look forward to kkopy khate being praised for the exact same looks.

    • CindyP says:

Hi Carole, no one cares what you think.

      • Elizabeth Regina says:

It’s the way they try to reduce Meghan to her clothes rather than an intelligent, hard working, post partum mother who has put up with more than some people ever will in 3 lifetimes. They had meetings with world leaders and the UN and yet all the bitterness we saw from the saltines was about her clothes.
Why not pay attention to the perfectly dressed one whose attempts to garner more than a few hours of press after a 75 day absence failed dismally.

      • Cate says:

I agree, she looks fine and given the issues she’s highlighting, there’s plenty to talk about other than her clothes. They are appropriate to the event and even if her style isn’t at 100% it’s still a solid 80-90, which is PLENTY.

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

I’ll pick on clothes here. We all do. I’m not shaming her body or detracting from her good works by saying her styling on this trip could be better.
Quite a few points of view seem to be drawing a very hard line that you cannot say you don’t like Meg’s styling without belittling her work and body shaming her. Which is a huge stretch.

    • Amy Bee says:

People can’t criticise Meghan for her work so they decide to criticize her clothes with no thought for the fact that she’s just had a baby. Anyway even when she wore skin tight clothes after Archie was she was criticized for looking like a stuff sausage. Let her wear what she wants.

      • Pinellas Pixie says:

There is nothing wrong with Meghan’s body. She is beautiful regardless of weight, hair, makeup, clothing. She glows from the inside.
That being said, I do not like the Valentino dress. Has nothing to do with Meghan, I just don’t like the dress. I love the other things she’s worn on this trip but the Valentino reminds me of a dress I used to own and I didn’t like that one either.

    • BabsORIG says:

People it’s alright to not like what Meg wears, why are CBers being attacked for expressing a obviously harmless different opinion? Let’s be kind to one another folks, life is too short.
Yeah, when she returned to the UK last year Archie was 11 months old so can’t compare that figure to now. I think a more appropriate time to compare is the time when Meg and Haz attended the opening of the Lion king movie, at which time Archie was about the same age as Lili is right now.
Personally I don’t even notice the clothes, I just was so delighted and enjoyed seeing the Sussexes for the first time after such a long time. And their work is mostly my main focus and interest, I care very little about what she wore. My opinion of course.

      • Sheffaneese Knight says:

I think we focus too much on outward appearances. That is just vanity. We can critique, but the words we use sometimes indicates something other than what we want and convey negatively to some readers. Example to say the persons styling Meghan should be fired is over the top in my opinion even if you don’t like what she was wearing. By the way, she looked beautiful to me and was positively glowing, but most importantly she spoke eloquently on all our behalf as if majority of persons worldwide are not vaccinated, the whole world will suffer the consequences.

      • Seraphina says:

I think we all need to keep in mind this is a gossip blog. Personally, I like discussing Meghan’s style (good and bad) because of the fact that she is smart, a go getter, caring and a professional. Who do we have on the world stage that can fit all that? Plus, she has style – again who do we have on the world stage who gets a checkmark in all those categories??? No one that I can think of off the top of my head. And she is a wife and mother to top it all off. So yes, I will say the white dress wasn’t my favorite – but she also isn’t Kate a lazy lack luster worker and dresser.

      • NCWoman says:

It’s not a harmless opinion when it’s being wielded like a club on social media to stir up more hate against her. Please don’t be blind to what is happening. There is a history in the United States at least of white people using any pretext to verbally and physically attack people of color, including what they wear. At one time, a black man in a business suit was considered uppity and suspect in some areas. That US history is now being exported across the globe to stir up hate against POC and to promote a white supremacist authoritarian agenda. It starts with clothes. That’s not where it ends with social media the way it is.

      • Pinellas Pixie says:

@NCWoman I don’t see it being wielded like a club here and if it is, it’s not by CBs but by visitors who came here for that reason. It’s possible to like someone and not like what they wear. If someone is beating Meghan with her clothing here, go for them and shame them but don’t mistake friendlies with an opinion on a dress for people who hate her. I love Meghan for who she is but I don’t like that dress and that’s okay. I’m allowed to dislike a dress.

    • Mercury says:

She looks absolutely stunning and beyond beautiful. It is hard to believe she just had a baby 4 months ago. Her legs look amazing and outfit looks fab!

      • Ripley says:

I quite enjoyed her styling throughout the trip. Not only is she four months postpartum, she has had a miscarriage and has a two year old. The amount of body changing she has most likely experienced is insane.

I was impressed with the substance and warmth this whole time as well.

      • Ginger says:

        Meghan’s legs look AMAZING.

      • Tessa says:

She is happy and healthy and glowing. I like her wardrobe also.

      • Harper says:

I just love Meghan. I love her soul .. it is silly and earnest and good hearted and she puts her energy into projects for the people who are not seen. The first time I realized exactly who she was was when she chose the Myna Mahila org as a recipient of their wedding gifts. Period supplies for the poor girls in India so they can go to school. I had never heard of such an org before and she put it up front at her wedding. Wow. Where many brides are having temper tantrums about their table favors and making the day about “me” Meghan went the other way. Now she’s out and about, willing to be viewed and commented on and criticized again so that she can support vaccine equity.

I enjoy her clothes, but I don’t care about them that much. I want her to be supported because I think she’s earned that support in the short time she’s been in the limelight. Add on the way that she’s been dumped on by the Royal Family who delighted in encouraging and participating in her abuse, I just want more for her than to be picked apart for her clothes. We all wear clothes — clothes are just fabric and dye. She should just be able to wear a sack IMO because the real Meghan is enough for me. Anyway, I like the white dress as I tend to like Valentino. Also, love the baby weight. You can’t nurse and starve yourself … you absolutely need to consume enough calories for yourself and the nursing and the exhaustion that you experience being up around the clock.

      • psl says:

All of you commenting on her legs, you can barely SEE them.
        I am confused.

      • Becks1 says:

@PSL – in her white dress you can see her legs.

      • aftershocks says:

^^ @PSL, the posted pics show Meg’s gorgeous legs in the embroidered white mini dress. For a completely full view, check out the event video.

@Mercury, I agree with your comments. I’m loving Meg’s monochrome styling. She’s in a new phase of her life, and she continues to be very on point. I learn a lot from how she carries herself. She is intentionally not rushing to get rid of her baby weight. She is allowing her body to naturally readjust.

    • Sofia says:

Fashion is subjective. If you don’t like it, you don’t like it.

    • notasugarhere says:

Whereas I think her outfits for this trip have been spot on. Classic, simple, easy to wear pieces that will last for years. This white one reminds me of her red carpet days, cute, body skimming, showing off her legs. Looks good to me.

      • Joan says:

Same for me (about her clothes)

      • aftershocks says:

^^ I totally agree with you @Notasugarhere. Meg has been looking delightful. She’s an elegant, chic business woman and Mom of two very young children. She’s on point, purposeful and in-charge of what’s in front of her.

Meghan has always been a glass-half-full person. It’s nice to see her happy and charting her own course with Harry, back home in America, after such a difficult time in England. M&H have both grown from the tough experience. They’ve grown together, showing us all what it means to truly love for better, for worse.

      • Debbie says:

You make a good point there, Nota. I’d forgotten about that.

    • Bettyrose says:

I disagree. I think her styling has been great on this trip. She looks confident and in charge. Her clothes aren’t sexy and glamorous but she’s just had a second baby and turned 40. I don’t doubt she’ll be back in her pre baby clothes before long, but sexy actress is no longer her vibe. If we have to talk fashion my only complaint would be that Harry’s khakis clashes with her fab red look on Friday but they nailed the Saturday look with coordinated outfits.

      • Lorelei says:

@BettyRose so many comments but I’m replying to yours because of the way you worded it. I actually disagree on the clothes themselves; I wasn’t crazy about a lot of what she wore in NY, but it didn’t bother me one iota since it was just so good to see her. And even if I personally didn’t love an outfit, she always looked beautiful, interesting and put-together.

But what came across, imo, is exactly what you said— her confidence. She looked confident, professional and ready for all of the people she was meeting and meetings she was attending— which must have been an enormous amount of work. Plus, she has such a gorgeous face that her clothes don’t even matter all that much. (It’s actually much better for my credit cards!) Clearly, her wardrobe this week boosted her confidence, which is the best thing clothing can do for a woman.

All I noticed about the photos from yesterday is that Harry was gazing at her exactly the same way he always has. He clearly could not care less about any baby weight. I doubt he even sees it when he looks at her. And that was so great to see. He loves her so, so much.

I’m so sad they’re gone. Next week is going to seem extremely boring!!

ETA: The only clothing-related issue that bothered me was that the UK tabs kept harping on how much everything cost. She BOUGHT IT WITH MONEY SHE EARNED, people. Every headline was about that instead of what they were actually doing, but I guess that’s in their best interest; they knew if they actually covered everything factually, the Cambridges would look even more like the irrelevant lightweights that they are.

      • aftershocks says:

^^ I agree with your comments @Bettyrose! But I also feel that Meg is still very, very sexy. Moms can be sexy too! 😉

      • Debbie says:

I’ll miss them too. It’s been so long since we’ve seen them for any extended period before this.

      • Bettyrose says:

@Lorelai they are so in love. And it’s really beautiful for all the obstacles their love has faced. No wonder Lifetime keeps making movies about them. You can’t write a love story as good as this one.

@aftershocks -No question Meghan can still rock the sexy any time she wants. I just mean it’s no longer her brand. I think we’ll be seeing more looks that say elegant stateswoman.

    • kelleybelle says:

Oh, it’s all about you, is it? “I want” … nice.

    • SunRae says:

I’m sorry but you sound out of touch. It wasn’t a galla’ey trip. They were meeting with dignitaries and are legit business leaders now… you can’t hold them to the same standard as ornamental chosen ones who show up to take pictures and cut ribbons.

By the way my girlfriends and I are obsessed with everything she wore. Especially the coats. So to say she must fire her stylist is to suggest she must cater to your niche (and I’m sorry a bit outdated) perspective.

    • Sydney says:

The oversized style is in so what she wore these past few days was very on trend. To say her stylist need to be fired is ridiculous. If you don’t know the current fashion trends just say that.

      • SunRae says:

        Exactly @Sydney

I don’t know when it’s going to click. Meghan’s target market is no longer royalists (and staunch traditionalists loyal to what that institution stands for) that couldn’t be bothered to know what she stands for because they’re checking if she’s ‘dolling’ properly. It’s ambitious women who want to change the world and maintain a healthy romantic relationship with a man who isn’t threated by that. This is what THOSE women wear. They just got a week’s worth of editorial cues for their next seminar or presentation…

It’s okay for things to not to be about you. This is a thought-out style pivot in line with her a new ‘role’ in the world.

    • Tessa says:

      I think she looks fantastic.

    • Becks1 says:

I think she’s looked gorgeous this trip. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

      • Nic919 says:

I like that the trend is back to looser and more bootcut pants. I’m not huge on hems that you can trip over, but Meghan didn’t have that issue this weekend. And I would love to get the beige coat she wore.
And I also liked the white dress.

      • Shoshone says:

I loved her arrival outfit on the first day! The coat was gorgeous. Did anyone else see her shoes when she visited Harlem? OMG they were stunning. Sadly, I couldn’t walk 5 steps in those shoes even if I could afford them. The color of her relaxed pant suit was so beautiful, too.

Otherwise, I think all the discussion about whether or not Meghan’s arrival coat was too hot etc. was just cover for some people who were really curious about how much baby weight she was still carrying. Which is kinda like trying to take ownership over her body. “She should take off her coat and bulky sweater so we can look! She owes us!”

    • MMadison says:

Right on QUE…..the Meghan haters show up to talk about clothes. They have NOTHING else to say so they complain about the most superficial things possible. What I’m learning through following Harry and Meghan is that the USA and the UK are NOT alike at all. We have been told for years that our countries are similar but the reality is we are so DIFFERENT. Case in point The Sun and The Daily Fail are both in the top 3 in UK readers. Can you imagine if The National Enquirer was a Top 3 paper in the USA not to mention 2 tabloids making the top 3 in readership? My point is the UK is tabloid culture. So when it comes to Meghan they are trying to force tabloid culture on her works. So for those of you in the USA trying to understand how Salty Island covers Meghan you will need to first believe that the UK Sun and Daily Fail are legitimate news sources as do the inhabitants of Salty Island. One Final Point: It is obvious that Meghan/Harry are thriving this goes counter to the imagine that the UK Media and Royal Family would like to project of them. They can’t explain the events of the weekend so they try and distract the readers with foolishness.

    • EllenOlenska says:

I live in the South and the days before Harry and Meghan arrived were filled with warnings of cold weather down here ( and temperatures did drop nearly 35 degrees overnight) I suspect she packed based on that info and perhaps the north wasn’t hit that hard. Especially if they stoped somewhere else along the way to NY. I didn’t love the red outfit but the color was really pretty and loro piana cashmere is heavenly. I prefer her other outfits on this trip but more important is that we can actually talk about what she did instead of just what she wore! ( unlike a certain other Duchess we all know)

      • Lorelei says:

@Ellen your comment reminded me of one of the things that irritated me the most about the BM’s coverage of the trip…the CONSTANT snarky, little, “FORGET to check the WEATHER forecast, Meghan?” barbs in almost every goddamn headline. It’s like, you went to journalism school (I know most of them probably didn’t) and this is what you’re spending your career writing? Your parents must be so proud.

@MMadison I hadn’t thought about it that way, but you’re right; it’s as if the National Enquirer and InTouch magazine were as widely read as the NYT, Washington Post or the Wall Street Journal are in the US. Laughable.

      • Jais says:

Yeah feel like when you’re a lover of fall (which I am!), you’re just ready to wear those coats, weather be dammed, lol. I think my favorite is the red suit, it was just oversized slouchy and cool. Loved it! But I can also see how some people might hate it. Love that she took a risk that would be divisive. Some people will be obsessed with the red and some people will hate. I liked the white dress, thought it was cute. Not my favorite of hers but it was cute. What I liked though was how covered-up she was for two days and all the horrible people talked about how she was covering her baby weight and then she came out with short sleeves and a shorter skirt, like eff-u haters. Every outfit was event appropriate but for all those faux-concerns about her coats, here she is in short sleeves and legs showing you f*ckers. I like that we discuss her fashion here and we can like it or not but we also equally discuss what she is doing here. If we only discussed her clothes, yeah that would be problematic, but we don’t. Diana was known for her fashion and is not belittled for it bc she is also known for what she did. And props to Amytoo way upthread and what she said.

    • Marivic says:

Meghan is not just form; she’s all substance. Kate is all form but no substance.

Meghan exudes confidence and intelligence. Kate emanates insecurity and dullness. No doubt.

    • Chelsea says:

I usually just roll my eyes and ignore all of these style critiques on posts here but this woman gave birth less than 4 months ago; she should wear what feels comfortable for her. I’m honesfly very grateful that she has nof succombed to the Hollywood pressure to quickly lose the baby weight and if right now she is only comfortable in more loose fitting clothes then so be it. Not every thought im your head needs to be aired out publicly.

      • Lorelei says:

@Chelsea that’s exactly what I loved about Kate when she first walked out holding George; clearly her body was completely different, but she wasn’t trying to hide it, and she still looked beautiful. That blue dress showed how much weight she was still carrying, which is obviously the norm for most women who have just given birth, and it was so refreshing to see that instead of celebrities hiding away for months after giving birth and reappearing as a size 00. Then claiming the weight all just fell right off from “chasing the baby around.” 🙄

Unfortunately she went for much more “glamorous” looks when she came out holding Charlotte and Louis; back to the stilettos, fully made up, not a gray root in sight, etc. So I guess *she* didn’t think she looked good in the post-George pictures. But that’s a shame because it was nice while it lasted! (and I remember her getting lots of positive praise for it at the time)

      • notasugarhere says:

Lorelei, it wasn’t exactly a natural moment. Kate walked out after 36 hours and a four-person glam team. Wearing a dress that was a copy of something Diana wore on honeymoon.

      • Lorelei says:

@Nota, where did I say it was a “natural moment?” Of course Kate had help, we all know that. But if you look at her “Lion King moment” with George compared to her other babies, there’s a big difference. When Charlotte was born, she came out wearing a lot more makeup, a fresh, wavy blowout, a much more fitted dress, and stilettos. Same with Louis. So her look with George was more natural in comparison, imo.

The blue dress didn’t hide a thing, but she didn’t seem to care; she was glowing with happiness. That dress wasn’t as formal as the ones she wore for her next two Lindo photo ops, and she wasn’t wearing heels. She just looked a lot more informal and relaxed, and I thought it was nice.

A lot of people were also (pleasantly) surprised at how she looked that day, I wasn’t the only one to notice it, and the press she got for it was very positive. But I’m not under the delusion that she was in the hospital bathroom blowing out her own hair.

      • Becks1 says:

It definitely was completely planned out with George, but she also did end up looking more natural than she did with the other two – less fancy, hair more relaxed, wedges not stilettos, etc.

It’s sad she felt she had to pivot from that type of planned look to what we saw with Charlotte and Louis, which I think was Lorelei’s
        Point.

      • Lorelei says:

@Becks, yes! That was more my point…there was such a stark contrast between how she looked with George vs. Charlotte, so she must not have liked how she looked that first time with George, and as a result, was much more glammed up with Charlotte (to the point that it was OTT, imo). So many people I know loved the fact that she didn’t wear Spanx or tried to make it look like there wasn’t still some weight there with George. It was clearly there, but she was smiling and so happy that she didn’t seem to care, which is exactly how she should feel right after having a baby. With Charlotte, she looked like she was ready to go to a garden party at BP or something!

Maybe it’s that Kate always tries to be 100% perfect, and when she wasn’t (by society’s beauty standards) that one day, we could actually feel like we related to her for once? She still looked gorgeous, but un-Kate-like. (If that makes sense!)

I also remember the reaction when she walked out with Charlotte in 4-inch heels— all of my friends and I who’ve had children were like “A white (!!) dress? Those heels?! Is she Superwoman?” She just gave birth a few hours ago!” and it was a little sad, because she looked so pretty and got so much praise the first time, when it was a lot more natural looking. But we saw her staff members going in with garment bags and those big makeup kits that professionals use, it’s not like I thought she did her own hair + makeup like us peasants, lol.

      • Debbie says:

Yes, she did get praise after the first child, but the nature of the praise was mainly that she looked like a “normal” woman immediately after giving birth — she looked fine, and was still carrying some of the baby weight. Perhaps, in a world where we see famous women showing their 6-pack weeks after birth, she thought she was being damned by faint praise — even though the praise seemed very sincere.

    • tamsin says:

This was a “business” trip and Meghan dressed as a business professional. Her wardrobe for the trip is very New York. And the whole world knows she just had a baby. It was not a smile and wave and wears something for royal reporters to talk about royal tour. She and Harry were in New York as advocates and to lend their profile to current and urgent issues. On a side note, I notice their new chief of staff is very stylish, and could give Meghan a good run for her money! Very impressive dresser.

      • Shoshone says:

I don’t think that Meghan wants her wardrobe to be the primary focus. Their last tour to Africa before they moved to North America was a pivot, fashion wise, to better enable their work and their message to take center stage.

      • Lorelei says:

@Tamsin, the idea of a genuine, working “business trip” is a completely foreign concept to the royal reporters; especially the younger ones who’ve only really covered the Cambridges. They’re used to photo ops with koalas, etc. So it’s like their minds short-circuited, but they still had to write stories, so we ended up with total garbage from them all.

      • Agreatreckoning says:

@tamsin, I’m with you. This was a business trip, not a royal tour or fashion show. No matter how hard some outlets and nefarious dumba$$ rotas want to frame it. Yesterday demonstrated how great of a public speaker Meghan is and how charming she & Harry are together. Full stop. She’s not an unprepared mumbler with chronic uhms and ers bleating out nonsense like giving tools to babies to raise their babies She was assertive, direct, confident, honest and intelligent with her words. It’s why she was a threat to an establishment that relies on obsfucation. It’s why the BM is focusing on her fashion. They can’t legitimately attack the message. Which makes the BM/BRF look more foolish on a global level.

Harry & Meghan were professional & adorable at the same time. Not an easy thing to do unless it comes naturally. The coat nonsense is just that. I think the lackey writers of this schlock were sweating more than Meghan trying to come up with their bullf*ckery. Where I’m at, come spring, if it hits 45 degrees, you will see people in shorts and some still layered up. We are all different. I’ve switched out tops (from layered to not layered more than half the time over the last two weeks due to morning temps and noon temps). I know one person with a Sony Reon stick thing. They run hot and cold all year. It’s controlled through a phone app? I believe.

There is an ATT commercial about internet speed and miscommunication. It’s funny. Sadly, this is how the BM and the Murdoch & other outlets operate.

My favorite outfits were the first day and yesterday’s. Watching the video, I saw two people that love, have fun, respect each other and are collectively, a strong force.

@Lorelei, Hahaha. Their minds ARE short-circuited if they actually have minds of their own. The day any one of these lackeys gets a job with a credible & legitimate news agency-I might buy a bottle of Betty’s gin.

    • Nyro says:

She looked lovely. And her clothes and style are pretty much at the bottom of the list of what her supporters, and even the American media, cared about. Stop trying to reduce her down to fashion. This isn’t Kate Middleton we’re talking about. She’s more than that. If you want to watch a mannequin, the other duchess exists for you to do that.

    • L4frimaire says:

Hard disagree. I loved her looks on this trip, and loved the dress. In some ways this is a continuation of the aesthetic of her last royal trip in regards to monochromatic dressing, but less formal. In some ways, it was a certain 70s aesthetic with long flowing trousers, big coats, loose blouses and turtleneck. The occasion was different and they projected a different vibe. Her dressing is very deliberate, in regards to wearing trousers, monochromatic looks and the big coats. Part of it was she wanted to look more understated and business-like for these working meetings, maybe she didn’t want to draw attention to her body, or hair. The pieces we’re definitely more luxurious and that was deliberate too. You’re in the room with heads of the UN, WHO and Rockefeller Foundation, you’re dressing like you belong in the room. Her white mini dress was very reminiscent of her pre-royal looks. She wore a lot of those styles of dresses and it was both fun and elegant. I wouldn’t be surprised if she burned all those stupid little hats she had to wear as a senior royal in a huge bonfire.

      • Lady D says:

“you’re dressing like you belong in the room.” I thought along those lines with the outfit she wore to school. Those little boys and girls were expecting a princess, dressed like a princess, and in comes Meghan dressed like a 21st century princess.

    • BeanieBean says:

I dislike all of her outfits, too, except for this little white dress. I love this little white dress.

    • Eenie Googles says:

      I like this dress.

      • Amy T says:

I just want to add my thanks to @AmyBee and agree with @Christina about happiness looking good on Meghan. We’re not in those meetings and only see the photos, so what they’re wearing and how they look is pretty much most of what we get.

I loved the cashmere coat and would buy it in a hot second if I could afford it, but what struck me most about all the photos was how relaxed and in-the-moment they both were. Yes, they’re obviously in love, but even better, they’re also obviously very good friends and it’s that combination that is so intoxicating and attractive to those of us out here looking at the photos. And then, that they use all their star power to make life better for people they could pretend don’t exist? All the above plus inspiring.

    • Dlc says:

I love the red color on her, but when her coat was off the red pants and blouse didn’t look like they fit quite right. I agree that her styling was off, and I say that as a fan.

  2. Noki says:

I have noticed now that the term ‘woke’ is simply being used as a replacement for the real inflamatory words that cant be printed. Some of the contexts i have seen them used in can easily be replaced with the N or F words. Smh

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

They called yesterday’s global event ‘wokestock’ They are just upset their faves will forever remain village champions forever zooming, cutting ribbons and grinning their way to obscurity.

      • Pao says:

They’re not even zooming or cutting ribbons. They are just watching football and playing tennis. But its ok because its the white royals so the british taxpayers don’t care to keep paying for them while receiving nothing of that “duty” they keep yapping about.

    • MsIam says:

People are dying around the world and poor countries can’t get enough of the vaccine, but okay Daily Mail you reduce it to “Wokestock”. They should change their name to the Daily Asshole, pardon my language on a Sunday.

      • Lady Digby says:

Yesterday’s Andrew Neil interview with your newspaper included “perception of GB news is we hate migrants, NHS,lockdown and Meghan”.
Ironic given interview was with Daily Mail because its columnists certainly have a bias against the Duchess of Sussex who you call Megs.
Quite frankly you write like a bitter ex wife who doesn’t want to see your former spouse succeed or be happy in their new life.
It is very tiring and unnecessary because in a pandemic let’s all do our bit and encourage take up of vaccines world wide.
I emailed this response to Amanda Platell of Daily Fail about her constant criticism of Meghan.

      • Christine says:

Good for you, Lady Digby! It really is beyond tiring, at this point. I don’t understand the inability to let Meghan shine, which she does seemingly effortlessly, when all sane people know it is anything but. She just kicks ass, period.

    • Fanciful says:

I kept wondering what the headlines would have been had Keen McButtons and her husband been there!!

      • Nic919 says:

Oh we are going to see the hypocrisy and double standards once that earth shot doc airs on the BBC. They don’t even try to be neutral.

      • Lorelei says:

@Fanciful I just mentioned this in a comment upthread before seeing yours; when Kate first re-emerged holding George, she was clearly still holding a lot of baby weight (obviously!) but she wasn’t even trying to hide it, and she looked so happy. She got a ton of positive press for it, too. But I can’t imagine how nasty some people will be about Meghan’s white dress, which IMO she looked gorgeous in (and clearly Harry thought so, too!).

    • Eurydice says:

I’ll give a “non-woke” reason for vaccine equity. Vietnam is the second largest supplier of shoes and apparel to the US. Most workers there have not been vaccinated. When their factories shut down because of Covid, we don’t get shoes and clothing. If people don’t want to think about global human rights, they might think about what covid does to a global economy.

      • EllenOlenska says:

Oh they’ll just all babble about “Buy ‘Murrican” and think that their local Walmart will magically fill w cheap ‘ Murrican shoes…

      • Eurydice says:

Those who think “Murrican” aren’t the decision makers. Any large retailer will want healthy suppliers. This is already a subject of discussion for Amazon, Walmart, Costco, etc.

    • Lorelei says:

@Noki they’ve completely turned “woke” into a slur. It’s so stupid and juvenile.

@Eurydice, sadly I think you’re right. Many — not all, but a LOT — of Americans need a reason that affects or benefits them *directly* in order for them to care about it. It’s so gross.

      • Eurydice says:

@Lorelai – it seems gross, but a practical point of view can also help people. The Vietnamese government is requiring factories in high-covid areas to have their employees sleep and eat on site so that production won’t be halted. On the one hand, cruel – on the other the hand, workers need a paycheck. But if they had more vaccines, then the workers would be healthier, they could go home to sleep, they can make shoes, the stores that sell shoes can stay open and people who want shoes can buy them.

      • Otaku fairy says:

        Yep.

    • sunny says:

I really hate how the press is using the word “woke” here. God, it is the same old story of black slang being widely adopted by white audiences who beat it to death but twisting its meaning to weaponize it against people of colour just makes me so sick. Sigh.

Looks like Meghan and Harry had a great trip and brought attention to some important issues.

  3. Pao says:

I’m convinced that the DM doesn’t even know what woke means because that headline makes no sense. I thought she looked cute in the dress. And it was right for the occasion

    • Amy Bee says:

      @Pao: No they don’t.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

The fail is a far right propaganda machine. Being against anything woke appeals to their fan base. Luckily they have effectively ensured that no one else in the BRF can talk about vaccine equity without being called hypocrites.

      • Pao says:

To be against something you should know what it means first. That headline makes nonsense. They’re just saying stuff just to be negative.

      • Ines says:

Woke, to them is an insult, as is PC and even health and safety.
Also, it is possible that they might not know what the term means. After all, they still don’t seem to understand what a selfie is either.

      • VS says:

@Pao — I don’t think they expect their “readers” to be smart; they only need them to be outraged at something

      • Amy Too says:

The fact that medical care and ending a pandemic is “woke” is wild to me. The right has no message or values other than “we will take the opposite stance.” And they’re not even just being contrary when it comes to Dem/liberal political leaders, they’re now taking the contrary stance to scientists, educators, media, anyone who is an expert in any field anywhere, even your average normal citizen, etc. It’s ridiculously wild what is happening.

      • Lorelei says:

@AmyToo, they will do anything, no matter how much it might harm themselves and their children, to “own the libs.” It seems like for many, that’s their goal in life. To OWN THE LIBS. It’s INSANE that a vaccine for a pandemic we’re still in the middle of, one which has killed millions or people and continues to every day, is a “hot-button” issue in which people are taking sides. And lots of people are literally siding with Covid!! It’s beyond wild.

Florida announced they’re now reviewing ALL vaccines. I swear to god we are not too far away from people chanting, “Bring back polio!” solely because they’re “free thinkers” who “question everything!” in need of something to rebel against and make them feel as if they have a tiny measure of control over at least that one aspect of their lives, because “they’re Americans, goddamnit, and no one’s going to tell THEM what to do!” 🙄

      • Otaku fairy says:

Yep. But they also want to be known as the balanced, humble, and logical side of society. That ship has sailed.

    • Fanciful says:

they don’t care what it means, it plays to their racist readers and that’s all they care about.

    • Betsy says:

I think @Noki has it – they’re using “woke” in lieu of slurs. Reading that just now is a glass shattering moment, because I too have been wondering why they keep misusing that word (tethered as I am to the belief that words have agreed-upon meaning). They’re not misusing that word in terms of misunderstanding it, they’re misusing that word as a weapon, a dogwhistle. I’m just embarrassed that it’s something I never realize on my own; I have to be told it.

      • Lorelei says:

@Betsy, you have no reason to be embarrassed; I would bet that a lot of them absolutely do not understand what it means. This is one dim crowd we’re talking about here…the dregs of society.

      • Christine says:

Betsy, you aren’t alone, I didn’t realize it until it was pointed out on CB.

  4. Jan90067 says:

I loved the energy they brought. When Harry said “My wife and I….” and the crowd exploded with cheers (and H&M hugged/held hands), well… I just *loved* that THIS was going out around the world.

As for the outfit, didn’t love it, didn’t hate it, but she’s looked better. Hair wasn’t great here either IMO, but that FACE! Radiating happiness.

(Harry looked great too, thought I think that all eyes were on Meg. lol). Love that he’s enough of a man to take pride in his wife, and in HER strength. They are *so* well matched.

    • Mich says:

It looked to me like her eyes welled with tears at the response. After living with so much constant hate, I think she needed that.

      • Jan90067 says:

I think so, too. It’s one thing to read about support online, papers, etc…but to *experience* the love, I’m sure it was a tonic for them both to experience together. You can see that it moved them tremendously.

      • Amy Too says:

Just based on who they are and their security wanting them to be prepared for any and all eventualities, I wonder if they had prepped for booing, protesters, violence, throwing things, whatever else. If you’ve been told by the UK media that if you dare show your face anywhere you are going to be shouted down and protested and booed loudly, even if you know that the UK media lies, that has to at least be a concern at the back of your mind. And I’m sure they had been prepped for what to do in those cases. And even if someone throwing things at you on stage is probably not going to happen, the fact that there are people out there who keep saying it could happen must sort of tamp down your expectations for what your reception will be like. As in “maybe people won’t honestly protest us, but maybe the crowd will just stare at us and be bored and roll their eyes.” It must be such a relief to come and get that huge level of support. Cheering, clapping, whistling, people smiling and nodding along and jumping up and down.

      • Liz version 700 says:

Absolutely! I think they saw that they are held in very high regard outside of salty island. We see the truth and appreciate the hard work and kindness.

      • Christine says:

        Totally agree!

    • Bettyrose says:

That moment was the best. The crowd cheered and they hugged and it was so sweet. He knows she’s the star of the show, his beautiful American wife.

      • Marivic says:

Yes. I love it that the USA loves Meghan and Prince Harry. They came and showed them how much. The world loves them. And this is what triggers the rota clowns and the royal family.

      • Lorelei says:

The reaction from that crowd was the BEST! They deserved it SO much after what they’ve been through.

Most importantly, imo, it really cemented that they’re back to a place where people love them and are proud and thrilled that they live here with us now.

Exactly what Becks said below; Meghan was probably still nervous (who wouldn’t be after a years-long smear campaign of that magnitude?!), so to get that reaction from the crowd must have been such a relief and so affirming.

@Melly, imagine being a halfwit with a brain so tiny that you’d look at Meghan and “wonder what Harry sees in her.” It’s wild!! Just total morons. Even if I didn’t like her personally, I’d still be able to see why others did.

Let’s ask them what Kate “sees in William.”

    • Layla says:

That was amazing!!! What was also amazing to see was that these two did their research. They were abundantly clear on the message they wanted to get across. No fear of being “too PoLItiCaL” or hurting anyone’s delicate sensibilities

    • Tessa says:

I think the “not welcome” posts come from DM comments and on blogs. The usual bots. I think Harry and Meghan are popular.

      • Melly says:

I think you are correct on the bots. A journalist shared a response to her tweet regarding Angela Merkel. She got a response from a poster saying that they didn’t know what Harry sees in her. Lol! So much of this hate is manufactured although I am sure no less distressing to Meghan and Harry. I am so glad they got to experience the love and warmth of Americans and it was broadcast around the world!

      • Christine says:

Melly, that is hilarious! Even the bots don’t have a work ethic.

    • Becks1 says:

@Jan I loved that too. She still looks a little
Nervous, like she’s not sure how much the lies from the British press have sunk in with the public and at least for most Americans – the answer is not at all. And I love that she gets to experience that.

      • Lorelei says:

Someday, not today, but someday, I need someone to explain to me exactly howTF bots work. (I feel really stupid admitting it, and I sort of know what they *accomplish,* but not how on earth they work.)

      • Christine says:

Unless I’ve totally flaked, this her first major public appearance in front of a crowd since leaving Salty Isle, do I remember correctly?

Either way, yeah, her relief is palpable. I burst into entirely inappropriate tears when she got her first Diana level cheer, Meghan just does that to me!

Harry needs a “Meghan’s Haz” portfolio, that would put me right over the edge.

      • Lorelei says:

@Christine it was so great! I didn’t even realize how much cheering there was until I went on Twitter last night and watched the full video. They got that first, super-long standing ovation when they walked out, Meghan had to pause at another point because the cheering was so loud, and then it happened AGAIN when Harry said, “my wife.” The crowd was absolutely crazy about them, and if Meghan was in fact nervous, hopefully she won’t be anymore after this weekend!

No one deserves that kind of reception more than H&M did right now, and it almost made me cry. They know now that plenty of people didn’t buy into the bs smear campaign and that America loves having its own little royal family here : ) And that their first trip was so successful in every way.

    • Debbie says:

The crowd’s reaction when Harry said “My wife and I believe…” reminded me of their wedding ceremony, after each of the said their vows suddenly the crowd outside the church screamed loudly to the point where their cheers were heard by the church members, and Harry & Meghan smiled in acknowledgment. That was a sweet moment.

  5. Eurydice says:

Good for them. I think this was a super successful first showing of their new identity. I look forward to seeing what they do next.

Not a fan of Valentino in any form, but Meghan’s legs look amazing.

And I have to laugh at the media’s running tally of how much Meghan’s outfits cost, especially the jewelry. Everything starts with the engagement ring at $350,000. I can imagine a headline – “Meghan wears jewelry worth $350,000.48 while walking the dog!!!” – the engagement ring and a macaroni necklace Archie made for in day care.

    • EllenOlenska says:

She totally needs to do that…and have Archie paint it gold so it takes them awhile to figure out…

  6. Laughysaphy says:

Wtf is woke about promoting vaccinations? It’s infuriating how public health has become politicized and weaponized to this extent. Meghan and Harry look great, I love the white dress it’s extremely cute on her.

    • Bettyrose says:

Woke means aware of racial disparities so it actually is woke in the original definition to talk about vaccine disparities but it’s weird to use it as a pejorative. You might as well call it human-rights-stock and laugh maniacally at how only hippies and do gooders care about human rights.

  7. Summerlover says:

They looked cute! The DM headlines are crazy inciting. The comments are another level. The worst thing was that BBC cut out H&M on stage and cut to studio instead. Very obvious move.

    • Over it says:

These people shouldn’t call themselves news outlets. They are a bunch of toddlers.

    • RoyalBlue says:

looks like the salty island is turning into China now. Censorship to protect their ideology.

    • MsIam says:

I guess the BBC forgot the internet exists and that people can see just about anything from anywhere now. It would be nice if other journalists outfits called them out on that b.s.

      • Lorelei says:

@SummerLover, the BBC cut Harry and Meghan’s part out? Seriously?! How is it even possible that a media company of that size — once very well-respected worldwide — has somehow deteriorated into what’s basically the equivalent of a middle school cafeteria full of mean little bullies? That is so unbelievably petty, my god.

@Msiam is right, lots of people will just watch it online, but the fact that the BBC even did that is very disturbing.

    • Summerlover says:

So while they were doing live cast, as soon as H and M came on stage, BBC cut to studio. And then they cut back to on stage for the next act. Check out Twitter. So many people complaining.

      • Lorelei says:

That is unreal…I cannot believe the BBC did that. I hope they get an enormous backlash.
The BBC has really declined, it seems? It feels like any time they’ve been in the headlines recently, it’s only ever for negative reasons. SMH

      • Debbie says:

For a country that advocates having a stiff upper lip, these people sure are pressed. JFC.

(We all know it’s not everyone in England).

  8. Sofia says:

They looked so lovely on stage together. And it’s all for a brilliant reason (so I haven’t forgotten and I’m not being shallow). I think it’s safe to say that H&M are back and this is the type of things we can expect from them.

  9. Eulalia says:

I might be alone here but I’m loving her style this trip. She looks really polished and professional without being too “matronly” – yes, everything is way too loose and she’s kind of drowning in fabric but she just had a baby and is probably not so comfortable with her body right now and trying to hide it a bit. That’s forgivable.

In saying that, the slicked-back tight buns need to go. I almost jumped for joy when I saw the return of the tendrils in these pictures.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

I am with you. Someone spliced photos of all her looks and her fashion was on point. I predict copy cats will be wearing those same clothes in a few weeks.

    • Seraphina says:

I wasn’t crazy about the white outfit but when you work like she does and just had a baby – big pass. I keep forgetting she JUST had a baby a few months ago.

And I love seeing them so happy together, put a smile on my face this AM. I wonder if there is anyone looking at these pics in the palaces and secretly smiling too.

    • Lizzie says:

I’m with you, I loved all of Meghans looks. However I like the slicked back bun.

    • VS says:

I am with you too….the outfits on the first and 2nd days were my favorites…..the black dress and camel coat reminded me of AJ and a lot of women in NYC…..

      • JT says:

I also loved every single outfit on the trip. She wore some great coats, sleek separates, and some nice neutrals, with the exception of that gorgeous burgundy/red she wore at the school. Everything she wore could be paired with something else and liked the fit of everything, including the white dress. Hair and makeup was also on point.

      • Lorelei says:

It will be fun to see how long it takes Kate to show up in similar getups. She’s probably furiously shopping online right this minute, lol.

      • JT says:

@Lorelei the same people saying that Meg should fire her stylist for this trip are the same ones who go on about how Kate should dress this way. How many times have people here said that Kate should spend more on separates and ditch the coat dresses? How many times have people said that Kate should try sleeker hairstyles and ditch the sausage curls? Meghan is dressing how people wish Kate would and I’m sure Keen is furiously laying out her Pinterest board trying to copy. From the coats to the buns, Meg killed it. Even Vogue was doing write ups on her style this week and declared that fall was here because Meghan showed up in a coat.

    • L4frimaire says:

I loved everything she wore on this trip as well. She just projected confidence and it was a relaxed, yet polished look. The coats were gorgeous and liked the loose trousers ( would prefer a slightly shorter hem, but that’s her thing). She also knows how to move in her clothes. I liked the slicked back hair, and she wore it loose for the school visit. I noticed sometimes when she wore her hair loose in UK, she was constantly pushing it back off her face or behind her ears. Maybe it was a nervous gesture because didn’t notice it when she wore her hair loose on this trip.

  10. Amy Bee says:

I thought Meghan and Harry looked great. We’ve just seen little bit of the work they’ve been doing since leaving the Royal Family and I think we’re going to see a lot more in the coming months. They should be proud of what they did this week and be encouraged for the future. I get the feeling this is what Harry always wanted to do but was restricted by Royal duty. You can definitely see that they take inspiration from what Diana was doing after the divorce.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

This is exactly what the BRF and their minions dreaded. The type of event, the global attention it garnered and the world leaders and visionaries it attracted is too much to bear for them. This is just the beginning for the Sussexes though. The others need to buckle up.

      • Lady D says:

Hopefully as they grow, it’s only a few more years before their association with the royals starts to fade. I’d rather see them referred to as philanthropists that members of that BRF.

      • Lemons says:

It does make me think that this is what royalty is supposed to be (stereotypically). Thousands of adoring fans/subjects cheering on their king/queen AND they, in turn, providing words on inspiration and calls to action.

I’m sure this is ALWAYS what the BRF wanted for themselves but they are such a combination of uncharismatic, unattractive, uninspiring, unlikeable that they have always settled for “restrained dignity” and silence.

I know the Sussexes don’t have subjects, but I’m so glad that they are reaching such a wide audience and affecting the change they want to see.

    • Ginger says:

Harry seemed like he was on cloud 9 on this trip. This is the work he definitely has always wanted to do. I’m glad he can finally do this.

      • Shawna says:

I assume that Harry was subjected to a lot of gaslighting before he left… People telling him that he couldn’t make a difference outside of the BRF. So I can see him being so overjoyed that people are willing to listen to his message.

      • Snuffles says:

        @shawna

You’re probably right and that’s so sad. In one ear his family, the institution and the media are telling him he’s nothing outside the royal family and in another ear, Meghan telling him “Babe, you CAN do this, they need you more than you need them.”

Being away from them has been great. He’s clearly been detoxing from their gaslighting for two years.

      • Tangerinetree says:

        @Ginger, Shawna, Snuffles
So true! He seems so passionate about all of the work he is currently engaged in. Who wouldn’t want to work with someone who is so dedicated? Finally he can be himself.

    • Capepopsie says:

@ Amy Bee that is the thought that keeps coming back to me, exactly how much Harry is Diana’s son! They look gorgeous, GORGEOUS both of them! Radiating love and positivity! 👌👏

      • Lorelei says:

@Capepopsie, I know how petty this will sound, but after everything they’ve been put through, I can’t help but think of Diana looking down on Harry, so proud and happy for him — with just a little smirk of satisfaction at the knowledge that this has thrown the BRF into a tailspin.

I just noticed in one of the photos from yesterday, Meghan does look a bit vulnerable— reminiscent of her moment with Tom Bradby in SA — but after the response she got from that crowd and from NYC in general, I hope she never has to feel that way ever again.

  11. Over it says:

Their love for each other makes me swoon. So refreshing to see a man loves his wife so openly and not afraid to show it. Her legs my goodness. They are incredible. I get why she is wearing loose things and covering up. She just had a baby she is allowed to be comfortable . I think she looks incredible. I love that she shows the world that it took 9 months to grow a human and your body changes because of it. She is the absolute best role model for women everywhere

  12. Layla says:

The level of saltiness here in the U.K. and on social media is so intense and I am loving it!

  13. Kalana says:

The anti-Meghan and Harry people are now against vaccine access?

And “woke” is not an insult, so the people who try to use it derogatorily are the same who used to cry about political correctness, and snowflakes, and think being called racist is worse than actually being racist.

    • notasugarhere says:

80 percent of the Meghan hate comes from the US, around a dozen people driving the whole thing under multiple names. And those US Meghan haters are rabid Trumpers, while the handful of UK-based haters are pro-Brexit Little Englanders who long for an all-white UK. When they aren’t posing racist things about Meghan and the Sussex children, they’re posing anti-vaxx, Drumpf is the real president sh!t.

      • Haylie says:

Yup. Murky Meg’s Twitter account got suspended this weekend, and at least 2 other Meghan hater accounts went down too. These crazies have multiple accounts.

      • notasugarhere says:

She was spreading anti-vaxx conspiracy theories, publicly going after a known international vaccine advocate. That’s probably what got her shut down, not her obsessive Meghan hate.

      • Fanciful says:

and murky meg was also blue check. how did that even happen?

      • Becks1 says:

MurkyMeg is freaking disturbing, that a hate account like that can get a blue check.

What Meghan Wore kept posting “remember our comment policy” and finally reposted the whole policy and were actively deleting comments. Good for them.

Also speaking of unhinged haters, Emily Giffin is back to talk about the royals, but she’s staying away from Meghan thus far.

    • Lorelei says:

@Kalana, I think the anti-Meghan and Harry people are against *anything* that Meghan and Harry are for. Doesn’t matter what. They will just automatically take the opposite stance (which in this case, could result in death if they refuse to get vaccinated, and I hope this doesn’t sound *too* callous, but just I cannot bring myself to feel sorry for them).

@Becks, who is this Murky Meg person? What was she saying? She probably has me blocked if she’s one of those people who blocks anyone who doesn’t despise the Sussexes.

This is just anecdotal, but I swear to god, every time a Meghan-hater makes it into my Twitter feed, if I click on their profile, it’s a MAGAT. EVERY TIME. The Cambridge “fan” base in the US is almost exclusively Trumpers.

  14. Ginger says:

I think Meghan looked incredible for this trip. She looks amazing for just giving birth a few months ago. This dress was my favorite so far of the trip. I’m really excited for this new era of the Sussex’s. I really hope we see more of them soon.

    • L4frimaire says:

I loved that white dress, loved the mini- length and the detail. I loved the whole look, from her hair to her shoes. The last time she was photographed in a Valentino dress was when she wore that black diaphanous dress to Misha Nonoo’s wedding. I loved that dress as well, but it divided a lot of opinions.

  15. Moxylady says:

I think they look perfect for the occasion and the weather. Madam Duchess looks gorgeous. I am so proud of all they accomplished this week and how hard they work to make the world a better place for everyone. I truly and deeply admire them.
As for her post baby body – any of y’all see that pic of her at ps 123? Her body is BANGIN. She wanted the focus to be on her work.

  16. Miss M says:

I noticed how they only called it “wokefest” in the Meghan and Harry articles but not in the articles that involved other celebrities there. They are so transparent. If you hate them as much as you say you do, why have a live video of everything they do? I want to see that front page apology

  17. VS says:

I love their full speech…..the reception they got was insane!!! people have been paying attention, more than I would have expected
on a shallow note, her face is perfect! she just had a baby and I am glad to see some women comfortable enough to not hide until the baby weight is all gone…she did the same thing with Archie; she really does slowly lose the weight.
Some women are able to lose it all in a few days/weeks but that’s not the case for all and it is good to have all types visible!

    • notasugarhere says:

‘Some women are able to lose it all in a few days/weeks’

You seem to be implying it is wrong to take time. Or that women are required to lose all ‘baby weight’ completely.

Kate’s starvation slimming after each birth? That’s not healthy, but her stans will tell you it makes her a superior woman.

      • VS says:

please re-read my comment….I said some can but it is not the case for all women and that is ok. No one has to hide until they lose it all…..having a woman of Meghan level of fame, being out and about doing her business with her baby is weight is great! I highly doubt anyone paid attention over here except for those on the island

Some women lose the weight over time, some lose it by starving, some hide and only come out when ready….that has had an effect on society; I see it around me in the US corporate world. Seeing all types visible should be ok. To each woman their own depending on their comfort level

      • Jan90067 says:

My SIL was back in her pre-pregnancy jeans in about 6 wks. after all her kids. She’s also 5’10 and was built like a model pre-pregnancy. My 5’2″ sister looked 6 mos. pregnant for almost a year after her two kids. In fact, she had finally lost *all* of the baby weight gain just a few mos. before she got pregnant with her 2nd.

It *is* due to diet, exercise, and a LOT of genetics.

And yes, a LOT of celebrity women seem to bounce back w/in a couple of weeks. Some are said to have C-sections w/tummy tucks thrown in, but what I don’t get is your uterus is swollen! You can’t *push* it back and stuff it in, so I’m baffled as to how they can do it lol

      • notasugarhere says:

VS, having read it several times before commenting? That’s still the take I took away.

      • Lorelei says:

@Nota, I don’t see that at ALL in @VS’s comment?! To me, it reads as purely an observation that it takes some women longer than others; that’s just a fact, it doesn’t have any negative implications at all. VS literally even says flat-out that it’s good to have *all* types visible.

Some women prioritize it more than others, but it’s a personal decision, and every woman’s body is so different. I wore my pre-pregnancy jeans home from the hospital, and (this is not an exaggeration!) I’ve never exercised a day in my life. It’s a fluke of genetics; I got my mom’s long torso.

Idk where you’re seeing any negativity there, but ¯_(ツ)_/¯

  18. Gm says:

Her clothes were low key, quiet. To me they came across as purposely professional probably not to detract attention from what they were doing. Which is a smart thing to do when they attract so much attention. Also the way they did not “do “ anything in time off during the trip ( I don’t count the Restaurant trip which was obviously part of the professional part of trip ) except for drinks with Misha and what looked to me for Harry to be a professional meeting / drinks in the hotel. They did not go shopping or socialize with friends otherwise. A carefully planned and successful trip.

    • VS says:

I actually think the clothes was not to distract from her mission………too many people have a tendency to focus on what women wear and not what they say! no one here is criticizing H’s clothes

    • Jan says:

You cannot be sure they did not socialize with friends, because you didn’t see it.

    • L4frimaire says:

@Gm, totally agree.Meghans outfits were fairly low key and business-like. They were extremely high quality, but the look is accessible and professional. Contrast this to when Ivanka Trump was at a few G20 summits, and she was wearing a pink cocktail dress. She wore pink a lot, with dresses better suited to a garden party, in flowy fabrics, or huge bows on the sleeve. Utterly ridiculous and no one was taking her seriously. In her trousers, Meghan could match her husband stride for stride, and like the Time cover, it made many people uncomfortable.

  19. Mtec says:

I think Meghan hit it out of the park on this trip with every outfit. I loved every one especially this mini dress which is the cutest and she served. Harry’s first day outfit and this last one at the festival were great too.

They looked amazing, they did worthwhile work, met with leaders, inspired children, donated money and tangible items, and gave a great speech together.

I feel proud to be a fan of theirs.

    • notasugarhere says:

As I wrote upthread, the white dress reminds me of her pre-Harry red carpet looks. Cute, body skimming not tight, minis. I remember a white one with a latice beaded embroidery style all over, a burgundy brocade, a long-sleeve deep v-neck one in silver. This white dress is very much her style.

      • Mtec says:

Oh wow you’re right! I didn’t even catch that. I love that after all they’ve been through we’re getting to see Meghan at 100% herself not the 50% the BRF wanted to bully her down to.

      • Lorelei says:

@Nota you’re right! It was very Suits-era-Meghan. It was my favorite thing she wore during this trip.

  20. Angelica Schuyler says:

Harry and Meghan are doing such a great job and they look so HAPPY! I hope they keep proving everyday that “service is universal”. I hope the rest of the BRF just stews in their misery as they realize more and more that they underestimated this dynamic duo.

  21. AmelieOriginal says:

Loved how the crowd went nuts when Harry said “My wife and I.” They are such a cute couple, charting their own path and on their way to becoming legendary humanitarians.

As for fashion, Meghan’s dress looks fine. The sun’s glare makes it impossible to see the beading work though.. It isn’t the best or worst thing she’s worn, I’m just glad she ditched the heavy coat she wore on her arrival to Central Park. Her heavy fall clothes/coats for 75-80 degree weather are the only thing that’s been super confusing. Yes, it’s cool here in the mornings/evenings and starting next week it looks like the weather is finally dropping to the 60s. But it doesn’t warrant heavy fabrics! I wore shorts and a t-shirt out and about in Brooklyn yesterday. Are Californians that sensitive to cold? It’s like when Floridians wear scarves when it’s 70 out?

    • notasugarhere says:

She wore big coats and sweaters for years, so she might run cold. And not everyone acclimates quickly when they travel or move. When I moved from a cold place to a warm one, it took 3-4 months to acclimate. When I moved from a warm place to a cold one, it took a year+.

    • Ginger says:

What’s with all this “concern”’for Meghan wearing a coat in NY? She didn’t pass out from heat exhaustion. Jennifer Lopez wore a fur coat the other day in NY and she grew up there.

    • Dee says:

“Heavy” is in the mind of the beholder. There are amazing fabrics which breathe and don’t wrinkle and don’t feel heavy. I imagine the vehicles she rode in and the buildings for the meetings they attended had air conditioning.

      • JT says:

@Ginger The coat thing is just f*cking ridiculous at this point. My goodness. Just move on already. If Meg wants to wear a coat, let the woman wear her coat in peace. As you’ve said, JLo was wearing a whole ass fur coat this same weekend and she’s a native New Yorker. Damn.

  22. Aurora says:

Meghan was at the forefront of the monochrome separates / Oversize coats and trousers trends. Remember her first outings with Prince Harry? I remember her oversized looks being criticized but now the likes of Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner are wearing similar silhouettes.

    • Amy Too says:

Yes, I like this take. Maybe this is her style, maybe this is a trend she wants to try out. It doesn’t have to be that she’s trying to hide her perfectly normal shaped body behind coats and oversized things. These are legitimately beautiful clothes in their own right, maybe she likes the clothes. If it was all about hiding her body until she can “bounce back” or “lose the weight” as everyone else seems to think, then I doubt she would investing in such interesting and cool, designer pieces.

    • Jan90067 says:

Monochrome has been around forever in classic clothes. Look at Audrey Hepburn and her black turtlenecks/black slacks, look at Lauren Bacall, Carole Lombard, Katherine Hepburn. Look at Carolyn Bisset Kennedy for a more contemporary look.

We all love Meghan here, but let’s not elevate her to walking on water. She didn’t invent fire, and she didn’t invent oversized/monochromatic clothes.

  23. Noor says:

Prince Harry and Meghan unleased: New York City, UN and Global Citizen Live.

They have shattered many royals myths perpetuated by the Palace, tabloids and the royal experts :
1 Only royals can perform public service. Nope. Service is Universal said the Sussexes.
    2. Must be senior working royals to be received by New York bigwigs. Nope, Harry and Meghan are enough draw.

Instead of criticizing every move made by Prince Harry and Meghan, the tabloids, Dan Wotton and Richard Eden should ask the Cambridges , why they are still squeezing engagements from yerteryear project Hold Still while being funded by taxpayers. Also why squeezed a tennis game out of Emma for PR purpose, when the teenager is probably tired from the US Open competition.

    • Joan says:

How powerful would it have been to have W&K deliver the same message as chairs of the U.K. version of the event.

      • Haylie says:

It was powerful without them. Besides, Will and Kate DGAF about global vaccine access and the firm isn’t doing anything to help the commonwealth countries with vaccination.

Let’s not insert Won’t and Kan’t into a narrative they aren’t a part of. Let them sink.

      • goofpuff says:

They can’t do it now that the Right Wing UK has declared vaccines to be “woke”. However since it’s all hypocritical to begin with in the UK media, they probably could and somehow it be twisted to work for them.

      • Marivic says:

@ Joan. On the contrary, it will diminish the power of the message with these two copycats. Their phoniness and hollowness would be palpable people will see through the charade. No, not these two for such an important humanitarian objective.

      • Lorelei says:

@Joan, I see where you’re coming from, but I’m with @Marivic on this one. I don’t think William and Kate are beloved, particularly respected, or taken seriously. I don’t think an announcement a week in advance that Kate and William were making this appearance would have generated the level of excitement and anticipation that Meghan and Harry’s did, and they would never receive the kind of applause that the Sussexes got. TBH, a lot of people only even watched it, or was aware of it, because they follow the Sussexes.

The BRF has an enormous problem on their hands, and if they hadn’t necessarily realized the sheer magnitude of it, they sure do now. I can’t even imagine the constant panic in the palace, from Thursday morning all the way up through last night. The Sussexes were always on the go, and the people and organizations welcoming them were amazing. They’re absolute rockstars, and William and Kate (currently the most glamorous royals they have) just don’t have that kind of appeal. God help those crisis managers right now.

    • Fortuona says:

It was for a LTA Youth project that has been running all this year and Emma is an ambassador for it before she won th USO

And not she is not ‘tired after the USO’ she went back into training this week as Indian Wells is in 2 weeks

      • Noor says:

If Emma is in training for another tennis competition in 2 weeks time, then LTA and Kate Middleton should not asked her to perform her ambassador duty for PR purpose during the tennis season.

  24. AMM says:

I was very pleasantly surprised by their speech. I knew they were doing important stuff behind the scenes, and I know they are good at public speaking, I just didn’t expect them to be so…frank? Assertive? I can’t think of the word for it, but it was definitely needed and they came across as educated and powerful. No fluff, just facts.

    • Sunday says:

Exactly this – the way they really said everything that needed to be said, beyond just a boilerplate kumbaya message, was really shocking (in a good way!) in its directness. They managed to call out disinformation fueling anti-vaxxers, corporate greed, wealthy nations hoarding supply, all without being preachy. It was really incredible.

My favorite part of their speech was when Meghan said “I know it feels like this pandemic has been going on forever … but if everyone’s over it, it’s never going to be over.” It’s so plainly said but so TRUE, and I will definitely be using this as a talking point with some of my in-laws who have decided they no longer have to be careful because they’re just bored of it.

    • L4frimaire says:

I loved their speech. It was so effective and just straight forward . I got into an argument with a libertarian vaccine sceptic last night and it is exhausting and infuriating. Glad they are championing this cause and mentioning that they are working with and listening to global experts in this public health. Hope to see them give more speeches and talks. They better give us a podcast soon.

  25. MellyMel says:

Not sure what’s “woke” about wanting everyone to have access to vaccines, but okay. Anyways, again they look great and I love Meghan’s dress. That bead work is gorgeous.

    • notasugarhere says:

      It is ‘woke’ because
      1) the anti-vaxxers are all over esp in the US and UK and

      2) racists in the UK and US don’t want brown people getting vaccines. Even if they themselves don’t believe in vaccines? They don’t want brown people having access to something that might save their lives.

  26. Margaret says:

Before they appeared on stage, I heard people screaming, I thought there was some kind of attack taking place. No it was prince harry, and madame duchess meghan being spotted. The reception for them had to have the lamebridges heads exploding. You to carole.

    • Jan90067 says:

Gotta say, when I thought of TOBB and Unable/Won’t reading about H&M’s reception (and esp. watching the feed and *hearing* the cheers), it *did* give me more than a frisson of pleasure imaging their reactions lol.

      I’m baaaaaaaaad to the bone! 😈 😆

      • JT says:

I definitely believe W&K/the palace read H&M coverage. Someone posted on Twitter that the palace has been threatening media outlets in the UK and telling them not to cover the Sussexes. This could be taken with a grain of salt, but considering the BBC cut Harry and Meg from the UK broadcast, I doubt that it’s a lie.

  27. Talie says:

The woke thing is weird considering Charles and William are both into a very liberal cause of the environment with their biggest projects. Although, the tabloids only slam Charles for this – you can see the bias with William. They really believe he’s the savior and they need to maintain the idea of him being fully idealized as a conservative Brit in every way.

    • Fanciful says:

but everyone knows william doesn’t have a liberal bone in his body and Charles is very conservative other than the environment. but harry is legit liberal

    • Amy Too says:

I think a lot of the reason why the RF and William, especially, gets a pass for his environmentalism “work” is because he frames it properly. It’s about making sure his kids have a world to explore and pretty places to visit. It’s about lessening his own guilt and finding ways for rich people to still feel good about everything they will continue to do that is bad for the environment because they have some kind of foundation that gives money to some innovative project that won’t effect them. It’s about building his own legacy and feeling like he’s making a difference, vaguely. We never get who he wants to make a difference for, or why, or in what way. It’s just general platitudes about making sure his kid will be proud of him because daddy made sure to preserve George’s favorite vacation spots. He doesn’t mention wanting to alleviate climate related problems for people living in the commonwealth countries. He’s not trying to make anyone else’s life actually better or reverse the suffering they face due to climate related catastrophes. He wants to protect “the earth” vaguely, not the actual people on the world. It seems to show a sense of entitlement and ownership when it comes to the world/the land. He wants it to be there so he can pass it on to his son, the next king.

      • Nic919 says:

And they easily sidestep the reality that the rich use exponentially more resources than the rest of the world and if William actually reduced his excessive lifestyle on his own he could make a difference more than some small countries.

William gets a pass because he is the establishment and has the power to control the media. Look at how his affairs have been hidden.

And there are reports that the BBC didn’t air Meghan and Harry speaking yesterday. Gee I wonder why??? (If anyone in the Uk can confirm this please do so… it’s a scary amount of censorship if that is true)

  28. Lizzie says:

The last few days have been quite a treat for Sussex fans. They certainly know how to plan and get the most out of a tour, if that’s what it’s called. I’ve loved all of Meghans fashions and this dress is so cute I can’t stand it. I’ve loved her classic looks and also the unexpected like the red suit. Meghan is consistently polished (not a jegging in sight)
Someone commented the BBC blacked out their speech, I hope the are hit with thousands of complaints.

    • booboocita says:

Wasn’t the BBC hit with thousands of complaints when Prince Philip’s death and funeral pre-empted a lot of their regular programming? But they didn’t change a thing. I have no problem believing they didn’t cover H & M, and I’m also sure they did so at the behest of KP. The royal butt-smooching the BBC does is truly astounding.

  29. Rapunzel says:

The Daily Fail was also obsessed with the coats Meg was wearing, and how she must be “sweating.”

Good Lord, so dumb. She obviously took the coats off when she was hot.

    • Haylie says:

      Right?

And yet, not one bead of sweat was photographed.

    • ABritGuest says:

The Fail takes their obsession to another level with this nonsense about her wearing coats. It’s not like she’s been seen looking sweaty & uncomfortable so I don’t understand why it’s been this big talking point.

I think she’s looked lovely during this visit. She looks super cute & more like Doria after a baby. I don’t think last night’s short dress was great for being on stage but not seen revealing photos so hopefully it was ok. My favourite look was the WTO meeting especially when spotted on the way with sunglasses on.

Nice speech by them. Harry’s really improved & Meghan always pays tribute to the sacrificed of the front line workers etc which Is good. The reception from the crowd was amazing. Apparently they got one of the biggest cheers of the night but when they broke down vaccine equity the crowd really seemed to listen.

They looked really sweet & happy on stage yesterday. If this trip was an indicator, next Invictus will be lit. Must be much gnashing of teeth in some palace’s & Fleet Street offices as this trip shows not many bought the bullying smear plus they’ve been saying for weeks that H&M were out of favour in the US because of no show at the Obama party, emmys, met gala etc. Them getting an audience with & praise by these various leaders has got to be annoying for their (mainly) U.K. critics.

Looking forward to seeing what’s next for Archewell & if any announcements are coming after these meetings.

    • Lizzie says:

It was so obvious they couldn’t find any criticism of her clothes so the exaggerated the temps. The first morning the temps in NY were mid 70,s, humid and all so the people pictured around them were wearing jackets and coats. The daily fail claimed it was in the mid 80’s and women were wearing sundresses.
And just to say, this is why women wear layers. I have a cardigan with me all summer in the office, cinema or casino.
Last point, why does the dm even care if Meghan was to warm? Is it some great sin to wear a coat and take it off later?

      • Rapunzel says:

They did find criticism of her clothes though. They said her look in Harlem was copying Michelle Obama’s look from the Biden inauguration.

They also criticized the white dress and too expensive for this event and implied Meg was a hypocrite for wearing a fancy dress to a vax equity event.

The coat thing was heavily present on here, so I’m guessing they got that talking point from spying on us…lol. Let’s not give them ideas next time.

      • notasugarhere says:

Meghan has always worn big coats. She was attacked for it at the start with Harry, through her time as a working royal, they keep attacking her for it now. She just likes big coats she can wrap up in FFS.

      • MsIam says:

Michelle Obama wore purple to the inauguration with a big belt. How was Meghan copying? Gee whiz, how dumb can you be? Well its the UK tabloids so………

      • LeaTheFrench says:

Meghan’s outfit did remind me of what Michelle Obama wore at the inauguration – maybe because it was so different and striking and memorable. Not saying that in a bad way: the outfit looked lovely and comfortable on Meghan, it was totally appropriate for the event, and it did not seem “copied” – we’ve seen her with similar lines before. I’m just really grateful she got rid of those awful beige tones, they wash her out when she’s such a natural beauty ☺️

      • Rapunzel says:

Nota- so true about the coats. But I don’t recall it ever making headlines.

Obviously, I was joking about them spying on us and getting the idea from here, but I do think the coats were brought up because regular folks were commenting.

Honestly, I don’t even get why it became a point. The coat thing wouldn’t have even made my notice if others hadn’t mentioned it.

      • SpankyB says:

I’ve never seen the Queen or Keen take their coat off at an event, so apparently it is a great sin.

I remember Keen wearing her coat through a basketball game in NY when they toured while she was pregnant. I can’t imagine how hot that must have been.

      • notasugarhere says:

QEII’s ‘coats’ are rarely outside coats, merely long blazers worn over a light dress. Never intended to be removed because they’re part of the outfit.

Kate never removes her outside coat because she always has one foot out the door at every engagement.

  30. Bellah says:

Guys, NY Fashion Week just wrapped.
This season’s looks are all about volume and vibrant hues. And it’s Fall, so it’s coat season.
Everything she wore was modern and on trend.

The outfit she wore to Harlem is not my personal taste, but I can acknowledge that she looked radiant and fashionable. She clearly loves fashion and isn’t afraid of wearing different styles.

Her style—like her platform and idealogy—is diverse, modern and forward thinking. Not dated and dusty.

  31. Monica says:

Honestly, I don’t really care what she wears. I’m here for the generosity, kindness, and charisma! They both look wonderfully comfortable and at ease with themselves.

  32. MsIam says:

I’m so proud of them! They came they saw they conquered! I think this trip was an unmitigated success and people will be talking about it for some time, mostly in a good way, except for the bitter biddies.

  33. Betsy says:

I’m always impressed by women who can wear white just out and about. I get that she’s going to a car and she has someone to watch the kids right now and she’s not cooking anything but I manage to get smudges and smears on me whenever I wear light colored clothes.

  34. Tessa says:

What I don’t comprehend is how the critics add up the “cost” of Meghan’s outfits, and complain. Yet they applaud expensive clothes worn by Kate and Camilla et al and make it seem the senior royals shop at Walmarts. I think the clothing and upkeep of senior royals is super expensive to say the very least.

    • Nic919 says:

The cost of Meghan’s clothing and jewelry is so irrelevant when British taxpayers publicly fund both Kate and Camilla’s wardrobes. It’s so insanely hypocritical that they continue to do this. They didn’t even touch the Federer sneakers she wore which should have been a gift she declared.

    • MsIam says:

Even Fox News is trying to play that tune here in the US. Which is crazy because whenever people talked about the cost of Melania Trump’s clothes, right wingers would always screech “Well she’s rich, she paid with it with her (Drumpf’s) own money!” Well so does Meghan boo. They need to stay out of her wallet.

      • Nic919 says:

The WSJ, another Murdoch owned paper, is also pushing out articles that criticize Meghan and Harry “hustling” for money. There is going to be a coordinated right wing effort against them and not just in the UK anymore.

      • Rapunzel says:

Nic919- hustling for money? Where and when? Any hustling done was for charity/causes!

But The Fail is now pushing the narrative that they were mic’d and followed by cameras to film all this for their Netflix show. Which….who cares? That’s the type of thing their show should be about?

      • JT says:

Nobody from the BM should be crying about H&M’s Netflix deal when Charles is having Amazon Prime stream his environmental show or whatever the hell it is. First they criticize, then they copy.

  35. Bellah says:

Imagine bashing a humanitarian campaign to end poverty across the world and save the planet!
These people really do see us all as peasants. How fundamentally hateful and cruel they are.

  36. Josey says:

I think she looked just lovely in the white. The previous coat looks almost felt like the concert was an unveiling. It was spot on. Those other coat things were en route to private meetings or intended to be a morning outdoor visit (memorial, school) and no w of them were other than private events. Not royal.photo Ops (except for the gov and mayor at their doing).

  37. Gina says:

I like Meghan’s dress. She looked amazing in it. Harry looked hot, very manly in a good way. I think they coordinated their outfits as they often do. Her “simple” white dress and his white shirt and black suit – they just enhnaced each other’s appearance. And appeal 😉

  38. Margaret says:

Don’t fret people, they do know how big the impact of this this new york trip is. I watched it and this is huge for the sussexes. Salt isle is besides itself with the knowledge on how big. They will attempt tod battle it but they WILL FAIL.
l am loving the Howling of the media rabid dogs. I think they will come to understand they have stooped to low.
The world, and global people are tired of the hate.

    • L4frimaire says:

They can complain all they want but the meetings happened, the concert and the speech happened, whatever pledges and commitments they made took place and whatever they will do next is already underway or being planned. They have no say in any of this. This was a phenomenally successful trip for them and so glad it went so well for them. They just seemed so energized and confident.

  39. Bookie says:

I LOVE Meghan – but I can still hate that dress. It was hemmed too short for a daytime event.

  40. February-Pisces says:

I love that white dress, she looks amazing. I’m so glad she’s not rushed into losing the baby weight like most celebs, she looks even healthy for it. I hope other women in the public eye follow suit instead of going to extreme lengths to snap back.

    • Lila says:

Completely agree! She has looked gorgeous at every stage. I’m glad she isn’t rushing to snap back. She’s spending her time much more productively…taking care of that amazing family, helping people around the world, and earning money to support herself and share with others. Salty haters who think her #1 priority should be immediately snapping back have lost the plot.

  41. Chelsea says:

Kudos to Team Archewell: this was a really well executed and focused tripped topped off with a fantastic speech. It’s not easy to try to explain supply issues and IP rights complications in a 6 minute speech, but they did a very good job of stating it in a way that was digestible to the audience while making what they were saying was told them to the experts they’ve met with. Harry’s point that the public funded these vaccines and have the right to question why they are being hoarded was such an excellent point. Just overall a fantastic use of their huge platform to get a message that so many experts and activists want out there that could save lives.

On a superficial note: how freaking adorable are these two?! This trip has been such a great reminder that they are magic together as evidenced by how the crowd freaked out over them. Im so glad that they, and Meghan in particular, got to feel that love from NYC.

    • Sunday says:

I agree 100% – yes, Meghan’s outfits were great, but the substance of what they said on that stage, the lasting impact of their donations (the school, the reading nooks, Melba’s covid fund), and their meetings at the UN were an incredibly powerful demonstration of Meghan and Harry’s dedication to their humanitarian mission. I am so excited to see where Archewell goes from here, and so proud of the Sussexes for not just talking the talk.

  42. Mtec says:

If you all haven’t already, please see if you can take time to sign the petition associated with this event: https://www.globalcitizen.org/en/action/global-covid19-vaccine-access/

  43. Watson says:

Imagine having a perfectly normal shaped body and having everyone criticize you cause you are 4 months post partum and refused to starve yourself. No wonder Diana had issues with food. And no wonder why Kate has been steadily thinning away over the years.

My body after two kids looks like this, despite working out and eating well. I wake up with a six pack and via bloating my body looks the exact same as Meghan’s by dinnertime. Spanx just makes me look like a smooth ish barrel. Hahahha!! So yeah, In my opinion, Meghan looked great and loved up. This is what many bodies look like and it’s perfectly fine!!!

    • L4frimaire says:

Meghan looks great period! I wish I was as fit and trim as 3 months postpartum Meghan. She is very obviously still nursing, is fuller and curvier but she is gorgeous. The tummy is still recovering from carrying a whole human, but the legs are and arms are toned, and she is a disciplined woman. I loved the mini, how it showed off her gorgeous legs, and the details and embellishments were so pretty on the dress. I loved her and Harry’s energy, and how they look at each other, the little gestures and looks, even in a crowd of thousands of people.

  44. Ann says:

I think the dress is very cute, I like a simple A-line, cap-sleeve style like that. It makes sense for someone who might still be trying to lose baby weight from the middle area. I do wish you could see the detail more clearly though. As for the red outfit, I liked everything about it but the cut of the coat. But she looked great.

  45. Becks1 says:

It’s because the attacks on her coats are tiresome and verge on concern trolling at this point.

She was clearly comfortable and not too hot. I don’t know why that’s such an issue for some people.

    • JT says:

It’s just embarrassing that after four days people are whining about her f*cking coats. Find a real criticism to talk about. Nobody here knows her body temp, so give it rest. It’s also a dumb hill to die on when you consider that many of the other people in those very same meetings had on coats, jackets, and long sleeves as well.

    • Sofia says:

I am honestly surprised by how offended some people are that Meghan is wearing a coat in NYC. Okay it’s too hot for you but it’s not for her. Yet some people are having meltdowns over it when it’s not something to have such a severe reaction to.

I live in the UK where it’s cold 10 months out of 12 (sometimes more) and I’ll wear hoodies and coats when the sun shining. And I’ll wear half sleeve shirts in the colder months. If I was photographed, some people here would slam me and claim I was sweating and hot (or too cold) when I’m fine. People feel temperatures differently.

      • Lorelei says:

The complete obsession with her coats is one of the most bizarre things I’ve ever seen in the Fail, and that’s really saying something. I feel like they focused on the coats and jewelry because if they’d actually highlighted the work they were doing and the people they met with, it would make the BRF look so lame in comparison.

It was like…they’re going to the UN? Panic in the newsroom. So we get, “Nothing to see there, but do you believe this COAT she’s wearing in such WARM weather?!”
And their readers are so dim and hateful that they jump right on the bandwagon. The number of headlines and comments about her coats was legit insane.

  46. L4frimaire says:

This has been really an amazing trip. Yes we are going on about the fashion, she was serving the looks ( as if she wouldn’t deliver- just gorgeous). The amount of logistics and planning that went into it, setting up these meeting with all these dignitaries, arranging the donations for the school visit, all the behind the scenes work. They were in the rooms where it happened and they plan on staying in those rooms. They are working with an amazing team and I just have major respect for their killer work ethic and vision.

  47. Jaded says:

“Where you’re born should not dictate your ability to survive”…I got teary listening to that. THIS is what it’s all about. You can pick apart Meghan’s clothing, hair and post-partum weight all you want but you’re missing the point. They’re out there on a world stage promoting vaccine equality and I truly believe they’re making a difference. I don’t care if Meghan wears a gunny sack, that’s not what’s important here. The Fail prints pissy articles about this being “wokefest” and how much Meghan’s clothes and jewelry cost while M&H just keep hitting home runs. The irony is, the more successes M&H have, the pissier the BM become so in a sense it’s a yardstick by which we can measure how well the Sussexes are doing. My gosh they got a rock star welcome and all the Fail can do is rant about how Meghan “lectured about vaccine equity and how the wealthiest nations are hoarding vaccine doses from poor countries while wearing outfits that cost an eye-watering £67,000”.

    Stay pissy Salty Isle!!

    • Tiffany says:

Jaded, that was my reaction too and I agree with every word of what you said. They are making a difference.

  48. Red Weather Tiger says:

    I love that white dress!

I am just confused and annoyed by the hate my facebook “friends” are spewing. They USED TO LOVE THEM during the wedding but now? Not a chance. WHAT?!? They gave food and a washing machine/dryer combo to children in need—let’s hate them! They donated money to workers struggling after covid—how could they be so rotten?!? They gave their time for vaccine equity—how goddamn DARE they!

I guess they don’t like confronting the fact that the BRF is a cesspool of hate, laziness, and bigotry?

    • Haylie says:

In all likelihood, your friends never “loved” them, but knew better than to say why. They were waiting for those media attacks to justify their true feelings and went from there.

In the minds of many, liberal and conservative alike, people with any hint of blackness aren’t supposed to succeed. They definitely aren’t supposed to marry into the most famous royal family in the world, taking the most popular prince.

  49. Merricat says:

Lol, this is only the beginning of what Harry and Meghan can do. Imagine being against good work like this, and the people who make it happen–might as well just carry a sign that says you’re a racist, or just (!) a jackhole.

  50. Slippers4 life says:

People can agree or disagree about a cause or criticize them, but it isn’t criticism i read about H and M, it’s hate fueled rage reporting any time they dare remind the world they exist. That is the goal or whomever is feeding this to the press and, worst of all it gets clicks and likes. Anyone I know who doesn’t like her says to me “I don’t know I just don’t like her”, no reason they just don’t. So fine, you don’t like her, is disliking someone a reason to push someone towards suicide? To add to so much hatred in this world? If you truly Hate Harry and Meghan, and instead of just tuning out, you actively go out of your way to fuel the racist bile narrative, and something terrible happens, are you fine with that on your soul? Look at Britney, look at Chrissy Tiegan. Time will calm everyone down and when you can finally think rationally, do you want to be someone who got so caught up in your own need to prove to the world how hateful you are by jumping on the I gate Meghan bandwagon, or do you want to be someone who behaved in a civil and respectful manner, even if you don’t like someone? Ask yourself, is spending my time hating and putting hate out into the world, who I want to be?

  51. tamsin says:

Do the British rags realize that calling the Global Citizen concert organized by a globally recognized advocacy group a “wokefest” makes them look really insular and ignorant? Do they realize there is a whole world out there besides themselves and the Royal family? And I can’t believe how far the BBC seems to have sunk. And to think they used to be the “gold standard.” I have slowly lost all respect for them over the past decade or so.

    • Marivic says:

The Brits are obviously enraged that they cannot ignore the star power of Harry and Meghan. They have global star power. No matter how much they don’t want to cover them in their latest outing in NYC, the Brits know that the impact the Sussexes are making has a powerful effect in the resolution of this global humanitarian crisis. The Sussexes command attention and the Brits just can’t unsee them and ignore them. The Sussexes are international headline news. The British media know this and they also know that what is left with them in their salty island are lazy lightweights. This fact infuriates them all the more.

    • Debbie says:

From what I’ve seen, there was more criticism and ink spilled about Meghan’s coat than there was about Charles selling access for money, or for the royal family hiding Andrew.

  52. Likeyoucare says:

    She is serving new styles.
How boring will it be if everyone choose the same style over and over again.

I like all her clothes so far, they are difference. Just like her.
She is not going to blindly following outdated rules that serves no meaning and purpose to anyone else.

  53. Colleen says:

At first glance I didn’t initially love the dress but the more I see it the more I do. It’s casual and still very pretty. Plus loose and comfortable which is probably nice post-baby.

Nice to see people in a position of power actually DOING SOMETHING tangible (cough William and Kate) that will have an actual impact. They seem to really enjoy being around each other as well which is lovely to see.

  54. booboocita says:

All I have to say is that I’m beyond thrilled that so many people on Twitter, Facebook, and other social media are calling Meghan “Madame Duchess.” LOVE IT! And sometimes I read it and think, “Madame la Duchesse,” with a French accent. Regal, royal, AND generous, kind, and peaceful under a tree. We should all thrive so much.

  55. Julie says:

You can’t fake that body language.
The hand holding, the way they gaze at each other.

I understand why the stans are upset. William only looks at rose bushes like that.

    • Marivic says:

I am just so curious why no body language expert has read the body language of William and Kate as detailed and comprehensive as they do Meghan’s and Harry’s . Because they know there is no love and respect in any of Kate’s and William’s body language when they’re together. Only disgust and contempt with each other’s faces. True.

  56. aquarius64 says:

Meghan looks wonderful, no matter what each of us think of her style choices. And Harry looked radiant. This Big Apple visit is a great kick off for the Sussexes and their Archwell initiatives. No matter how much censoring and slagging by the UK media is done, with help by some American outlets, the Windsors now know its stature has shrunk beyond British borders. That Bond movie premiere is going to be a sorry event; but I bet the pressure is on to make it a grand event. Kate is under the gun to get a dazzling gown and pull from the royal jewel vault to outdo Meghan. (Kate will still pale next to Meghan.) The BM’s reason for this new wave of saltiness is because own of their own got heckled and was ignored by Harry at a news conference. Stay mad idiots.

  57. Seaflower says:

At the end of the day, the trip was a great success highlighting critical international issues and supporting key local ones. What Meghan wore was secondary. Did I like everything she wore? There was one look I wasn’t fussed about, BUT what Meghan wore was appropriate and professional and frankly secondary to the purpose of the trip.

  58. mface says:

It is literally insane to me that you constantly talk about William and Kate not wearing masks (and truly every other celebrity) but you’re celebrating them rolling up to a festival with thousands of unmasked attendees. So irresponsible all around, and so hypocritical.

    • Margaret says:

      @MFACE
However they are wearing mask on the inside, not while outside as the rules require. Why are you here having a meltdown?.

    • MA says:

Every single person at the event was vaccinated and they are outdoors. Try again.

    • Debbie says:

Such “concern” mface. You poor dear, such manufactured outrage. I’ve got a fainting couch just for you. Clutch your pearls and step this way.

  59. HeatherC says:

I wasn’t in love with everything worn, but she wore them well. I loved the rich tone of the red outfit, the camel coat with the black dress and this white dress. But again, she wore them well and seemed comfortable in them all

The reason for the tour, all the important discussions and meetings are what’s important, but this is a gossip blog. We gossip here. What celebrities wear, who they’re dating, what they said along with the important stuff they do.

Also I’m attempting to lose the last bit of baby weight myself, so it wasn’t even a consideration for me when critiquing her outfits either positively or negatively.
(My Kiddo is 22 years old…..lolololololol)

  60. Moxylady says:

I keep coming back to this. She is so brave. The press ripped her apart in the UK. She was gaslit first years that she wasn’t good enough. And she still put herself out there – in the public eye- to do good. She is so damn brave.

  61. Athena says:

The British media needs to get over their obsession with the price of Meghan’s clothes. The brits are not paying for them, they never paid for any of her clothes, worry about the ton of money spent by Catherine on clothes during a pandemic when she was only seen on zoom.
Meghan knew they would comment and didn’t care, she wore what she wanted to wear. And why is everyone jumping to the conclusion that Jessica styled Meghan just because rumor has it that Jessica was in NY. And if Meghan didn’t like something she would not have worn it.
Let’s stop jumping on the bandwagon that reduces a woman to what she wears and nit pick at everything as if we ourselves would look better.

  62. Gk says:

Again I am not a fan of the HM, and don’t dislike WK except for the fact they remain royals ( seriously circuses don’t have performing animals anymore but the world still has royals that the support to live lives much more lavish then citizens?) Anyway as part of the performative aspect is WK and their cute kids having what is described as a pub lunch. So normal, so fake. Why did they have to do it? Andy’s issues, Charles for sale, competition with W younger brother and his wife. Whatever just stop. Have some self respect. Thankful I’m an American and can try to vote out those I don’t like!

  63. Keri says:

Meghan looks amazing. Her style is totally mine and i can tell you for sure everyone I know enjoys it here in kenya. She just gave birth! Let her be ffs. Who wants to look like a clown overdone in so many colours. 🙄
Meghan is a classy woman who has earned enough of her own money to buy and wear what she wants. If you could, you know you would.

  64. Original Penguin says:

I love the phrase Madame Duchess. I think I will use it from now on.

I don’t love the white dress, but I Loved everything about the red outfit down to the shoes. I think I just like her in jewel tones. My favourite look ever on her is the burgundy dress and coat she wore to the Hubb when she was a few months pregnant. Followed by the green when they visited Sussex

  65. Original Penguin says:

I love the phrase Madame Duchess. I think I will use it from now on.

I don’t love the white dress, it would be fine for a casual lunch but I’m always greedy to see her dressed up to the nines. I Loved everything about the red outfit down to the shoes. I think I just like her in jewel tones. My favourite look ever on her is the burgundy dress and coat she wore to the Hubb when she was a few months pregnant. Followed by the green when they visited Sussex

  66. one of the marys says:

I’ve worked all weekend so this was some wonderful entertainment during my down time. My favourite ensemble was the tan/caramel tone on tone for the UN visit, OMG so polished and professional, the colours the textures and excellent posture.
I liked Harry’s pants for the broadcast with the front creases/seams. I’d like him to jazz up his working wardrobe with maybe a leather car coat or more colour in his shirts and ties.
I follow what Meghan wore on Instagram and lord they had to stay on top of the nonsense like schooling children so tedious

  67. Nan says:

They got the platform provided by Gobal Citizen, the organization behind the Activist competition/docuseries and share the space with Usher, Pryanka & Julianne H of that project fame. What an opportunity indeed.

  68. iconoclast59 says:

I think Meghan’s dress is cute. She certainly has the legs for it!

I find it curious that some here have described Meghan as confident this trip. To me she seemed kind of reticent and tentative at times, though I think she got better as the trip went along. It makes me believe that Archie and Lili definitely stayed in California; her demeanor reminded me a lot of my co-workers when they were new moms, who confessed to separation anxiety when they first returned to the office.
