(Hiawassee)-– A traffic stop in Towns County Friday evening led to the arrest of two Cleveland residents, charged with several felony drug charges, according to a post on the Sheriff’s Department social media page.

The stop was conducted at the intersection of Hwy. 76 and Hwy. 17, and a subsequent search of the vehicle led Investigators with the Towns County Sheriff’s Department to locate a substantial amount of Methamphetamine.

Upon further investigation, the post reads, it was revealed the driver was a high-level supplier who was delivering the pre-packaged illegal drugs designated for sale to local drug dealers in Towns County and Clay County. These prepackaged bags can then be cut by local dealers who can then lace the Methamphetamine with other dangerous drugs.

Two people were arrested and charged, they were identified as 24-year-old Anderson David Dowdy, and 24-year-old, Shannon Nichole Philbeck, both from Cleveland.

Both suspects were charged with Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Felony Trafficking in Methamphetamine, and Felony Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime. Dowdy was also charged with Felony Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute.

The sheriff’s office said information indicates that this supplier has been supplying drugs to local dealers for three years, and the investigation is still active and ongoing.
