For a little while, the Stoneman Douglas football team will get to masquerade as Super Bowl participants.

The Parkland players will be at Hard Rock Stadium on Jan. 31 — three days before the Super Bowl — to volunteer as stand-ins as Fox checks camera angles for the broadcast.

“They are really excited,” Stoneman Douglas coach Quentin Short said. “Should be an awesome experience.”

Short said the NFL and the Miami Dolphins reached out to the program with the opportunity. He said the final details of what the Eagles will be doing are still being worked out, but confirmed they will be on the field so Fox can see what camera angles work and what needs to be adjusted.

“[We’ll be] running out of tunnels, sideline angles, running plays to test camera angles,” said Short.

Stoneman Douglas had one of its best seasons in history last year, going 8-2 and winning the District 13-8A title — the program’s first district championship since 2001.

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School was the site of mass shooting on Feb. 14, 2018, when 17 people were killed and 17 more were injured. Among the victims who died were assistant football coach Aaron Feis and athletic director Chris Hixon.
