Both Hisense and TCL have showcased alternatives to Samsung's popular The Frame TV, and this summer Hisense is launching its own version as the CanvasTV, starting at $999.

Hisense's CanvasTV will be cheaper than Samsung's The Frame but may not include as diverse an array of artworks. Nonetheless, it follows the same concept; a regular TV when in use, transforming into a digital photo frame when not in use.

Hisense has teased the TV on various occasions, most recently in January at CES 2024, where it was referred to as the 'Canvas TV'. The final version will be stylized as CanvasTV – without a space.

According to Hisense, it comes preloaded with "a curated world of free artistic masterpieces with a collection of pre-loaded works spanning abstract, modern, and renaissance styles". Users can also display personal photos by clicking the 'Art Mode' button on the remote.

Starting at $999
Samsung's 2024 version of The Frame costs $1500 for the 55-inch model and $2000 for the 65-inch model. Hisense's version will be priced at $1000 and $1300 for the 55 and 65-inch models, respectively, making it considerably cheaper, with prices expected to decrease further over time.

It features an LCD panel with 4K resolution and quantum dots, and it has a matte finish due to a special anti-glare coating – just like Samsung's The Frame. Hisense also confirmed that it supports 144Hz, VRR, and ALLM over HDMI 2.1. There is a built-in 2.0.2 speaker system.

The TV is powered by Google TV with access to all popular streaming apps. Google TV always has built-in Chromecast and Google Assistant. Samsung's The Frame is powered by Samsung's own TV. operating system, Tizen.

Like Samsung's The Frame, the frame of Hisense's CanvasTV is interchangeable. The TV comes bundled with a teak frame, and optional white and walnut frames are available. These frames slide onto the TV and are held in place by magnets.

Hisense said that CanvasTV will be available in late summer 2024 in the Americas in 55 and 65 inches. The company did not comment on wider availability, but an update regarding availability in Europe is expected at IFA 2024 in early September.
