English Lakes celebrates its 70th anniversary

English Lakes is celebrating its 70 platinum years in 2023.

Throughout the year, our family owned hotel group will mark this anniversary with a number of events and competitions to win 70 free stays.

How it all began

The company's origins were in a deal struck in January 1953 when Norman Buckley took on the lease for the Low Wood Hotel. Buckley had a passion for 'The Lakes' and a desire to invest in the area and its future, having set a number of World Water Speed records on Windermere in the the early 1950s.

The hotel group welcomed its first visitors to Low Wood Bay in 1953.

Family Heritage

This family heritage and passion for the area has continued, with three generations of the family being involved the running of this family owned business.

The company is nowadays one of the a leading hospitality and catering business in the South Lakes tourist industry with a multi million pound turnover and over 100,000 people from all over the world passing through English Lakes doors each year.

With recent developments at the group's flag ship hotel, Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa, the company is committed to continuing its investment in not only its properties but also the many fantastic employees that work for English Lakes.
