As a new program in the Department of Economics, FLOAT affords students from all majors with the opportunity to teach financial literacy concepts in local middle schools. As a FLOAT Teacher, you will receive training in the fall through ECON489L, and teach in the spring through ECON489C.
Applicants must complete one of the following courses, or a course with comparable content, before enrolling in the FLOAT program: ECON200, ECON201, ECON111, ECON181, ECON175, or ECON155. If you believe you have taken a course with comparable content, please verify with us at
umdfloat@gmail.com before applying.
Logistics of the FLOAT program and a description of FLOAT courses (ECON489L and ECON489C) are explained in greater detail in the next section of the application. For additional questions, visit our website (
