Commission [1/4 available] Fantasy Sketches, Grumkins and Snarks! [Commish info-first post!]

To prevent this I would strongly recommend, and be an advocate for, an "by artist" field @The Dark Wizard . If we can implement a sitewide "by artist" field to any images uploaded, including profile images, I believe many people would share the same sentiment that @peritwinkle and many others share.

While we do customize the site quite a bit, we are ultimately using a forum software that we didn't create to power the site. There is almost no way to logically implement this for avatars, character sheets, or for the site to even notice the difference between a hot-linked image, or uploaded image for the purposes of this request. Anything custom we make will most likely break once the forum software updates, assuming we could even figure out how to do this. I could add this to the Gallery much easier but the vast majority of images on the site are not using the site's gallery feature, opting directly to interact with the post. There's also no feasible way to force everyone to upload to the gallery first and then link images from there to posts. (This is one of the few painless ways I can see of enforcing a by artist field site-wide).

I always try to credit artists when I can find them and have built it into most of my bbcodes. While logistically a nightmare, I can definitely say I'll bring it up with the rest of the staff. In the meantime we do try our best to honor all take-down requests we receive from artists who link to the image from an official portfolio (like deviant art ond so forth). We've never denied such a request since we believe artists have rights on RpN.

Edit: I suppose that with the RP Creator rules, a RP Creator could set a rule where they will reject your character/picture if you don't credit the artist.

AliceNWeb AliceNWeb Thank you for your honesty. It’s great that you’re acknowledging this mistake - we’ve all been guilty of it, but what we can do is get better and try to fix this unfairness. I’m not blaming you, people like you, and I’m most certainly not blaming the staff and The Dark Wizard The Dark Wizard . You can’t possibly monitor things like this in any way other than manually, as requests arise as the staff have said, which I’m sure you guys are doing a great job at.

My ‘letter’ wasn’t directed at the staff by any means. It was directed at people who could not be bothered to give credit out of ignorance, which most of the time is unintentional. I wanted it to be a reminder for people who have forgotten what this little action can do - and implicitly the lack of it - as well as a request for others who have not done it, to change.

It can’t be as serious, you might think - what’s the big deal? Many artists either live on or depend on exposure. I wouldn’t be where I am now were I not credited properly throughout the site, in RPs and CSs alike. Most art isn’t copyrighted, therefore we can only kindly ask for credit to be given.

I have mistakenly thought certain paintings I saw belonged to the OP before I asked and was told otherwise. I shouldn’t have to ask in order to be told that it didn’t belong to them, but ‘don’t know em’ and didn’t credit.

I know a bit about web design, is there not a template that you can use and just copy paste the field for "url link" and retitle it as "by artist" ? I know the change would be small and it would, as you said, go away with the next update but it shouldn't be that difficult to implement another column into the template. This is just me talking from experience and while I recognize all the hard work the staff does to keep the beautiful site up, I also think there is a bit of room for compromise. At least with things like this where the code is already existent and ready for alteration. <3

That still does not force the person posting it to credit the artist. Even if you make that field compulsory, some people will write whatever in that field so as to not be bothered. Even if they write "by me" they can't be caught until proven otherwise.

Um holy crap, your art is absolutely gorgeous?? I really love the way you play with light and shade 😍
Thank you so much 💙 💜 💙

I completely understand this, but the fact is that the field itself does not exist even as an option, which I'm just saying would be useful. To force people to credit the artist would take a lot more than a template change - it would more than likely require a plug-in that may alter site-wide UX/UI; That's not what I'm suggesting. I'm only suggesting an optional field be added to things like the gallery and text/rich-text editor :)

If people wanted to credit the artist, they would. The site doesn't stop them from writing "Credit: X" underneath an image. Likewise, if they don't want to be bothered with crediting, they will find a way to continue to do so with or without a template like this. Therefore I think implementing this would be pretty much futile unfortunately.

Basically just another formality that goes ignored.

We'll definitely look into it. ^33^ While people can input anything they want into a text field, it's possible just the mention of crediting the artist would be a good reminder to those who are acting out of ignorance.

Or, if possible, you guys could add a prompt to the top of the site like the "When posting, please be aware that artistic nudity is still nudity and not allowed under RpNation rules. Please edit your pictures accordingly!" one from Creativity, mentioning to credit the artists?

Can you screenshot the field that you mean? Or edit a screenshot to show what you would add to it? I'm not certain which field or location you're referring to.

Oh, good idea. I don't want to derail too far from your lovely art, either!

Javax Javax 's character is the definition of unique. Thank you for trusting me with her portrait!

Commissions are still open, especially now that I can study from home and have a bit more time to paint! I'm also thinking of making a tutorial or two.

If you have any questions (art/commission related) or tutorial suggestions feel free to PM me anytime 🦋

If I'm stayin' at home, I can at least dream of paradise. I've always loved the sea (so much so that I have a gold seashell necklace I wear everywhere to remind me of it).

I also attached the wallpaper version if any of y'all like it enough to use it as a background image 🦋
