This is not supported by Microsoft, and they would recommend that you use
Terminal Services to administer Exchange using XP, but this is how I and a
few other have gotten it to work.

1. Install Windows 2000 SP2 Admin Pack
2. Install Exchange System Manager
3. Install Exchange 2000 SP2
4. Uninstall Windows 2000 SP2 Admin Pack
5. Install .NET Server Beta 3 Admin Pack.

Doesn't make sense. I thought Win2K SP2 Admin Pack didn't
install on XP?

You will get an error when you try to install it, just ignore the error.

Or you might want to try:

I have tried the following steps and
it does work "Reliably":

1. Installed Win2k OS w/SP2
2. Admin Tools for Win2k
4. Installed Exchange2k System Manager (and Exchange 5.5 Manager)both
work
5. Then upgraded Windows2k to WinXP
6. And then install the Admin Pak for WinXP before attempting a
connection.

And guess what it works. Getting advise from Microsoft Techs who don't
even want to try and test a theory first before speaking in the
negitive get's me. You keep sticking to the rules and by the book MS
Tech's and your box will only get smaller. And just keep posting
those links as a quick answer, instead of trying first.

So, what you are all saying is that next week when I get a
new machine at work with XP installed, I will need to
dance through hoops to be able to administer Exchange
2K... Nice job MS... I haven't even thought there would be
a problem running MMC on XP to administer Exchange.

Could someone point out some docs detailing what problems
may arise? Or is this just one of those "not MS supported"
functions??? Either way, it's ridiculous.

I use terminal services instead.
