My Way To You (Creek Canyon Book 1) Kindle Edition
An Amazon Charts bestseller.
A woman’s journey through tragedy leads to the discovery of love in a novel about hope and survival by New York Times bestselling author Catherine Bybee.
When a wildfire nearly destroys Parker Sinclair’s family home, it’s just one more disaster to add to her mountain of stress. For the past two years, she has shouldered the responsibility of raising her younger brother and sister after their parents’ untimely deaths. Forced to leave college for a crappy job that barely pays the bills, Parker manages her family property, which consumes every aspect of her life. Now winter is coming and the forecast isn’t spreading sunshine on the dark cloud over her head. The last thing Parker needs is a mudslide destroying everything she has worked so hard to maintain.
Colin Hudson’s job as a public works supervisor is to protect Parker’s property and neighborhood from further damage. But it’s a little hard when the owner of the land is a control freak who tries to do everything herself. The hardworking, attractive young woman is far from the “hot mess” she claims to be. In fact, her tight grip of control is one of the things that attract him the most. It’s also the hardest to crack. Now Colin’s working overtime to help Parker open up her heart, trust him, and let him in.
As Parker and Colin work together to keep her home and neighborhood safe, they may be in for another disaster. Or they may just realize that sometimes it takes destruction to create something new.

With a little bit of this and a little bit of that this book gives it all and I am headed for book two right now!

- Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2020I enjoyed the characters, and the plot was interesting, but two things really annoyed me: first, the crude language and detailed descriptions of sex added nothing but actually detracted from an otherwise good story. Second, the technical words used to describe the land and the repairs were not defined or explained. Since the author personally experienced this disaster, I can understand her desire to describe it exactly as she saw it. However, for the uninformed reader, there was simply too much technical jargon, so I could not picture what she described; thus, many of those long narratives were unhelpful, even boring.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2024As I read this book, I thought the author must have done a ton of research to understand the interplay between wildfires and flooding so well only to get to the acknowledgements and realise the plot is based on personal experience. Parker Sinclair became guardian to her brother and sister when her parents died unexpectedly. They live in the family home when a wildfire breaks out and nearly destroys the house. Parker is acutely aware that following the fire, heavy rains will wash down the now unprotected soils and debris from the hillsides into the creek at the bottom of her garden. She has become very independent since becoming effectively a single parent, but maybe the county official responsible for the construction of the flood defenses may change her mind and take some help. Colin soon realises that he can only win Parker by supporting her and accepting that she has responsibilities beyond herself. Lovely characters and the author's experience creates a very realistic setting for the plot.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2025I’m so thankful I found C. Bybee’s books, they are just way to fun,,,nice to find a great writer who happens to also indulge in quality romance. Such a nice break from the cookie cutter books that flood the shelves and internet with the same plot over and over. I will follow Catherine and devour everything I can get my hands on!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!
I loved the strong female lead and how she protects and values her independence. The love story is believable and not rushed, a little sad about the kids situation. Hoping Parker changes her mind in the next book. Overall a very enjoyable read and I'm excited to see what is next! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars The Real Live
Although I live far away from southern California I remember the fire and the flood from the news. It was both frightening and heartwarming to read about these events in the book obviously written by a person with first-hand experience. The book let me catch a glimpse into the insides, the minds and souls of people in that area. Despair and hope, loosing and gaining, fear and love are woven into a tight net called life. And above all the drama there is always love and responsibility. Thank you very much, Catherine Bybee. I'm looking forward reading the next books of the series - I already bought them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another side of Catherine Near autobiograp I
This is yet another storyline. Is there no end to this woman's talent?
At the end of the book, she told us it was based on her own experience. So although it is fiction, it is close to an autobiography. Perhaps that is what made it feel so real. It is an engrossing story of tragedy, love and adversity in a flood prone landscape, with a hint of more drama to come,
I can recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional story...
Superb characters, difficult-to-terrifying situations of fires, floods, and mud slides. Throw in different ages and stages in life, and a lot of love - a winning story. I had teary moments, anxious oh-no times, and times I laughed! Love this story. Highly recommended!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great story but ending felt a bit unfinished
This book was a good read, it had good characters, good storyline and pace my only criticism was the ending felt a bit unfinished; I felt like I needed a happy ever after and whilst was a happy ending it wasn't what I expected and left me feeling "oh!"
