DC characters Wonder Twins will be getting the live-action treatment at HBO, following in the footsteps of many other successful DC franchises.

Adam Sztykiel, writer of DC's Black Adam, has been tapped to write and direct the Wonder Twins movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It is not known whether the live action film will follow closely to the source material, but it centres on Jayna and Zan, an alien sibling duo who can activate their superpowers using physical touch and their catchphrase: "Wonder twin power, activate".

Jayna can transform into any animal and Zan into water, and they have appeared in a number of DC shows in the past, including The All-New Super Friends Hour, Teen Titans Go, The Flash, and Smallville.

Though details about the project are being kept secret, it is known that Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey will be producing the project.

Writer Sztykiel has most recently written DC's Black Adam, which sees Dwayne Johnson as the titular character.

Black Adam was first meant to debut in the movie Shazam! but instead he got his own movie. He has similar powers to Shazam but he's not exactly 'pure of heart' like Billy Batson, making him more of an anti-hero than a traditional superhero.

He will eventually be fighting with Shazam but the Black Adam movie won't be where it happens.

Johnson will be joined by To All The Boys I've Loved Before's Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Straight Outta Compton's Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, and James Bond's Pierce Brosnan as Dr Fate.

Though Wonder Twins is unlikely to make it to the screen this year, DC has a packed enough schedule with their releases, including the highly anticipated The Batman, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, The Flash, and the aforementioned Black Adam.

Black Adam will hit cinema screens on July 29, 2022.
