Thank you for considering participation this study. Here's some information about it:

The goal of this study is to create a text message program called AbortionCareTXT. This program will guide patients on what to expect after they take the medications to have an abortion.

Taking part in this study involves a one-hour interview on Zoom. During the interview, you will be asked to share your thoughts on a text message program designed to support people undergoing a medication abortion. Specifically, we will ask you to imagine that you were having a medication abortion and how you might have felt receiving these messages during that process. The goal is to gather feedback to ensure the messages feel helpful, supportive, and relevant. You will also be asked to complete a short demographics survey and a questionnaire. The demographics survey will include questions about personal details such as your age, gender identity, and health history. The questionnaire will ask how often and when you would prefer to receive text messages.

One possible risk of the research is a privacy breach. To minimize this risk, research staff will have limited access to personal health information based on their specific roles. Interviews will be scheduled with a unique link and password that is required to join the virtual meeting. To protect participants' information, study staff will not keep participants' name or other information that may identify them with the interview; only a study ID/code number. Files that link participant names to their study ID will be kept in a secure, password-protected place at the IWK Health Centre. The research team will keep any personal health information about participants in a secure and confidential location for 5 years and then destroy it according to NS Heath policy. Personal health information will not be shared with others without participants' permission.

To ensure we have a range of voices heard as part of this study, we are asking that all interested in joining this study to complete a screening questionnaire to see if you are eligible. This questionnaire will ask about your age, identity, racial background, and will collect your contact information. If you qualify to participate, research staff will reach out to you. If you are contacted, there will be another consent process for the study. This may take several months. We will also contact you if you are not selected.
