Internet provider UK Broadband has launched Relish, a new broadband service for homes and businesses where users are connected through a 4G mobile network rather than through a phone line or cable.
Relish is described as ‘plug-and-play’ broadband internet that lets users have broadband speeds without having to pay the “landline tax”, where ADSL users have to pay £15-£20 per month for a phone line, even if they don’t use it to make calls.
The service piggybacks onto Three’s 4G network, with users expected to receive an average speed of 30Mbps, which is better than 75% of current broadband connections in the UK according to telecoms regulator Ofcom.
The service is only available in London at launch, but UK Broadband have indicated that it plans to expand the network in the future.
