Small Bites: Get Elementary Students Cooking!

Donation protected

I am raising money to help implement the Common Threads: Small Bites Program in Butler and Brock Elementary Schools in Savannah, GA. I am collaborating with teachers at both schools to implement the Small Bites Program and reach vulnerable student populations that will benefit greatly from this food and nutrition education. Both schools have free and reduced lunch percentages above 90%.

Butler and Brock have both received grant funding from Common Threads to purchase all grocery items for the 8 lessons! We are required to provide measuring cups, measuring spoons, mixing spoons, and mixing bowl sets for the students. Students typically work in groups of 5 and need individual sets of these items. I am hoping to get 15 measuring spoons, 15 measuring cups, 15 mixing bowl sets, and 15 mixing spoons.

The Common Threads: Small Bites Program is a direct education intervention designed to increase nutrition knowledge, vegetable consumption, and variety of vegetables consumed. The curriculum teaches students about nutrition and healthy cooking through a series of eight 1-hour lessons combining nutrition and knife-free cooking. In every lesson, students prepare a healthy snack, using recipes that meet USDA Guidelines, and provide opportunities to learn about and reinforce nutrition concepts and cooking skills. The lessons are grade-level banded, suitable for the in-school or after-school setting and are designed to support core content learning in Math, English Language Arts, and Science.

I plan to purchase all items through Amazon.
Measuring spoons at $3.50 x  15 = $52.50
Measuring cups at $4.50 x 15= $67.50
Mixing bowls at $11.15 x 15 = $167.25
Mixing spoons at $1.97 x 15 = $29.55
TOTAL= $316.80

Any additional funds received above the amount needed for program supplies will be reallocated towards supporting the school garden program at each respective school. At the end of the program all purchased supplies will be retained by the school district's School Nutrition Program to be re-used for future classroom nutrition education programs ensuring your contribution goes towards a sustainable initiative.
