Toxic Players

I believe it is time for Blizzard to take an active role in moderating their product. Quite frankly I find it troubling that no live in game moderation has ever been put in place. Toxic players constantly bombard chat channels and zone with filth, perversion, racism and hate. This is not a suitable environment for paying customers. Certainly not a suitable environment for children and a large demographic of the player base is under the age of 16. How do you feel about this topic? Do you think chat moderation is a positive or negative idea?

I think letting the community moderate itself via reports is best. Any live moderation would be a nightmare.

I don’t want to come off as being mean or rude, but this is part of the reason I wanted to come back to classic.

To many people in retail crying over “moderation” etc. The internet back in the day allowed a place for anyone to speak, voice an opinion etc even if it was offensive. Because of this the people who were offensive and the people on the receiving end both learned something in the process. Or 90% of the time maybe they did not?

Either way keep the restrictions to retail and leave classic alone. Thx

Honestly, I agree.

The lonely tools who get their kicks out of intentionally upsetting or “triggering” other people will be here shortly behind me crying foul but I’d personally love it if they hired a half dozen mods who could monitor reports in real time and swing the ban hammer around with reckless abandon.

People would complain and others would claim it would result in loss of players, but frankly, those aren’t the kind of customers ANY business should want, all they do is chase away a larger % of new users.

I for one am tired of seeing racial epithets, sexist, homophobic, and intentionally absurd “trolling” in literally every global chat channel.

There is an ignore list.

so you believe that moderating chat… stopping the players who choose to post sexual content or racism is an attack on freedom of speech?

Moderation has been in place since the game started. Its called being an adult and putting someone on ignore and get over yourself. Maturity is an amazing thing once you learn it.

Freedom of speech isnt really related to community sanctions and consequences. Only to government retribution.

You assumed wrong.

Just ignore trolls and move along. Simple.

Yea, you could try not letting the door hit you in the rear when you unsub and leave.

The world is a very nasty place, having mandatory blinders doesn’t make it any less nasty. Might as well get used to it now in a virtual world. Sticks and stones dude.

Good thing I grew up in the 90’s when multiplayer was the Wild West, I’d have never been a successful Army Infantryman if words ruined my day.

and what does one do when the ignore list is full? which, let’s be honest… if you actively ignored every foul mouthed troll would happen in a matter of minutes.
