Merseyside Police hunt for the Everton fans behind criminal damage inside the Anfield away end after concourse TVs were smashed and ceilings were pulled down in the toilets

Merseyside police are investigating reports of criminal damage caused in the away end at Anfield on Sunday, after Liverpool defeated rivals Everton 2-0.

Pictures surfaced on Twitter of smashed television screens as well as vandalism on the concourse and in the toilets, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

According to The Mirror, a police spokeswoman said: 'We are investigating an incident of criminal damage which took place inside Anfield Stadium on Sunday 24 April.

'The toilets and television screens in the concourse area of the stadium were found to have been vandalised after the derby game between Liverpool and Everton.

'We are liaising with Liverpool Football Club to obtain CCTV footage to identify the suspects and bring them to justice. Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact us on 101 or Facebook "Merseyside Police Contact Centre" with reference 22000284271.'

The publication adds that Everton will punish any supporters who have played a part in causing the damage.

Liverpool won the game against their local rivals 2-0 on Sunday, with goals coming from Andy Robertson and Divock Origi.

The victory means Liverpool keep their hopes alive of achieving an unprecedented quadruple.

But for Everton, defeat leaves them with a tough task to preserve their Premier League status for another season.

They are 18th in the standings with 29 points, two behind 17th-place Burnley with a game in hand.
