[GUIDE] Pokémon Sleep: Shiny Pokémon Guide

(you need an account to see links)

Pokémon Sleep: The Shiny Pokémon Hunt!

So the reason I’m posting this guide, is I’m a Shiny hunter. I have over 300 Shinies in Pokémon Home, and I’ve spent hours and hours of my time on shiny hunts, egg hatching, and soft resetting, to get legit Shines I like. I’ve even completed the grueling special research quest to get the Shiny Mew in Pokemon Go! It’s the only legit Shiny Mew you can have in Pokémon Home (and subsequently in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet unless you have the OG ones from two 2002 and 2004 events in Pokémon Emerald, the latter being available only in the Japanese version; which is HIGHLY unlikely.

Now, I just started playing Pokémon Sleep (I know I’m late to the party), and like any other Pokémon game I start playing, one of the first things I did, is check how to Shiny hunt. From my research, there is no real “Shiny Hunting Method” but there are things you can do, to better your chances. So I thought I might as well write this guide for anyone else who might be interested. Let’s start with the first thing you need to know about Shiny hunting, the Shiny Odds!

    Shiny Odds

Shiny Hunters like me, have reason to celebrate, as Shiny Pokémon are discoverable within the realm of Pokémon Sleep. While the specific odds of encountering Shiny Pokémon remains unclear, numerous players have shared their discoveries of Shiny Pokémon within Pokémon Sleep. The odds of encountering Shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Sleep seem to be 1 in 450 similar to the ones Pokémon GO (although the odds in GO are slightly higher at 1 in 500).

What are Shiny Odds? Well it’s basically the chance of a Pokémon being Shiny of course! Here’s where things get confusing though. 1 in 450 doesn’t guarantee that in every 450 Pokémon, 1 might be Shiny. Think of it this way, you have a 450 sided dice, and for every encounter you roll that dice. Only 1 of its 450 sides are a Shiny. So in theory the odds of a Pokémon being Shiny is 1 in 450 for each encounter. In effect it’s roughly a 0.2% chance of a Pokémon being Shiny. That’s what makes Shinies so rare!

    Possibly Guaranteed Hungry Status

Based on observations so far, it appears that Shiny Pokémon may always be hungry (pending further testing) when they appear after a sleep session. When you come across a shiny Pokémon, your primary goal is to befriend it and ensure it stays at your camp as a helper. To achieve this, you must feed the Pokémon a Biscuit. Acquiring Biscuits can be done through daily rewards or by exchanging Sleep Points for them. Once you've successfully befriended the shiny Pokémon with a Biscuit, it will remain at your camp as a helper.

Weekly Snorlax is Available as a Shiny!

The Snorlax that you are allocated each week has the possibility of appearing in its gorgeous royal blue Shiny form as well. Whenever you access your Pokémon Sleep app and encounter Snorlax, you can see a sparkling animation.

Unfortunately though, even if you’re lucky enough, and your weekly Snorlax shines for you, you'll still need to bid it farewell when the week concludes on Sunday. Nonetheless, throughout the entire week, you have the chance to capture numerous enjoyable screenshots featuring your Pokémon alongside this sapphire hued Snorlax.

Note: players who have moved into the*Cyan Beach*research site may have noticed that the Snorlax here is a different color compared to the previous week's. This green Snorlax is native to the Cyan Beach area, and it's likely that other research sites will have their own color of Snorlax.

    Shiny Hunting Methods

Most Pokémon games have their own shiny hunting methods. Whether it’s the shiny chaining method, or Pokémon sandwiches, or the Masuda Method breeding, or even the shiny charm which all reduce your shiny odds. Unfortunately, there is no way to reduce your actual odds in this game, but here’s how you can improve your chances at encountering a Shiny Pokémon. Let’s discuss them.

Sleep More to Increase Your Shiny Pokémon Chance

Contrary to other games, there’s no need to stay up for extended periods of time to hunt Shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Sleep. In reality, achieving a high Sleep Score by getting adequate sleep increases your chances of encountering Shiny Pokémon. So it could be said, this is the easiest game to get Shinies in, in terms of effort required!

While a greater Sleep Score doesn't lower Shiny Odds to encounter Shiny Pokémon, it does increase the quantity of Pokémon you encounter following a Sleep Session. You can achieve a Sleep Score of up to 100 by sleeping for 8 hours and 30 minutes, and this score and time can be distributed between your two Sleep Sessions that you’re allowed daily.

Increase Snorlax’s Drowsy Power for More Pokémon

Given the rarity of Shiny Pokémon, the aim is to optimize the likelihood of encountering one. Drowsy Power, determined by Snorlax's strength and your sleep score, influences the number of Pokémon appearing around Snorlax after your Sleep Session. A higher Drowsy Power translates to an increased quantity of Pokémon. More Pokémon as we now know, means higher chances of encountering a Shiny Pokemon!

Additionally, the frequency and quality of feeding Snorlax throughout the day play a crucial role. Feeding it three times a day at specific intervals (6:00 AM - 11:59 AM, 12 PM - 5:59 PM, 6 PM - 11:59 PM) will enhance the number and rarity of Pokémon appearing at your camp.

To ensure you befriend any shiny Pokémon you encounter, stock up on Biscuits. Feeding these Biscuits to Pokémon will entice them to stay at your camp, providing you with better opportunities to connect with and catch shiny Pokémon.

    Premium Pass for Bonus Pokémon

Opting for a Premium Pass provides an extra Pokémon snoozing alongside Snorlax after your Sleep Session. Furthermore, you're guaranteed encountering a Hungry Pokémon, which gains more Friendship Points by feeding it biscuits. It’s not much, but it’s still an increased chance of the extra Pokémon being shiny.

    Conclusion

As you can see there are no real methods to reduce the Shiny Odds, but a way to increase the number of total Pokémon encounters, which could lead to one of them being shiny. In comparison, the shiny odds in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are 1 in 4096, so you still have a MUCH better shot at getting some Shinies in Pokémon Sleep. As of now there's no way to transfer them to Pokémon Home and into other games, but there's always a chance the compatibility could get added in the future. I will update this guide with any new methods that may pop up in the future as well.

Hope this was helpful for those of you looking for Shiny Pokémon in this game! If you do find any or have already found some, post photos so that the rest of us can watch in envy!

As of now it's thought if there was a Shiny on Cyan Beach, it would be the 'regular' Royal Blue Shiny
