COVID19 and our school

We are lucky to be in such a good situation with COVID19 but it is important to remember that we still need to take precautions.  We take our responsbility for the health and safety of everyone who enters our school campus seriously and we therefore ask that you adhere to the following procedures.

1. Use sanitiser on entering the school grounds.

2. Stay outside of and away from classrooms and socially distance.  Please do not sit in any undercover areas.

3. Email staff to make appointments to meet with them.

4. When celebrating birthdays, bring in shop purchased cupcakes to share.

We will be running some whole school assemblies in the hall during the term.  There will be a limited number of seats available for visitors to cater for COVID19 restrictions.  It will be a matter of being able to attend if there is a seat available.

I would like to thank everyone for their cooperation so far with these procedures.  Together we will be able to work out how to do business in this new environment so our students have the best possible experience at school.

Enrolments and Day 8 Student Count

Every year our classes and staffing numbers are calculated on the number of students enrolled at our school by the second week of the year.  With new students arriving and others leaving, we have a situation where some classes have a large number of students and others very low numbers.  This will mean that we will need to rearrange classes and move a small number of students into different classes.

We will be carefully selecting these students and both student and parents will be contacted on Monday to discuss the move before it happens.  Our staff will of course support these students through this transition so we believe it will be a very positive experience.

Book Club

Published by Rachel Argue

Do you love books? Book club is for you.

Scholoastic Book Club

So how does Book Club work?

1. Book Club catalogues arrive at school once a term and can usually be found hiding in your child’s backpack. We encourage you to sit down with your child and go through the catalogue together, discussing any books that spark your child’s interest.

2. Once your child has made their final selection, head over to our LOOP website or app to place your order.  LOOP orders are linked to your school in an easy, safe online process.  Registering for LOOP will also keep you up-to-date with all of the latest Book Club news, information on exciting new releases, and our exclusive Book Club special offers.

3. Your school’s Book Club Organiser (Mrs Argue) will then take care of the rest!  After they have submitted everyone’s orders, our team get to work packing your child’s order full of exciting things.

4. Your child’s order is then delivered to their class, ready to take home and be eagerly read.  Orders that you have marked as a ‘gift’ in LOOP will be sent to school for you to secretly pick-up instead. With numerous studies finding that reading at home is a key factor in a child’s lifelong success, Book Club provides a fun and easy way of bringing books into your home.

As a school we receive 20% commission on all sales.  This commission is then used to purchase resources for the school. If your child did not bring a catalogue home and it is not at the bottom of their bag, please see your classroom teacher for new one.

Welcome back to school year 6

The students in 6C have shown a great attitude towards school life in 2021. Getting back into routines and school work has been a shock to the senses for most students but they have shown great resilience in overcoming this. Some students have shown leadership and bravery by putting their hands up to apply for a leadership role. These students are preparing speeches for Friday, where a Captain and Vice Captain will be voted upon by peers and teachers.

2S ... week two, term one 2021

Published by Daisy Hill State School

Hello parents and caregivers,

I hope your child has enjoyed their first two weeks in their new classroom.

Please check-in with your child each afternoon to find out how their day went. Quite often, they offer that "nothing much happened". It is important to ask questions in a manner such that children enter into a conversation. It is your opportunity to find out what your child has been learning; who their friends are; if s/he has any social problems; etc. If there is some problem, please feel free to contact me.

Staff are very proactive during lunch duties and generally "all over everything" and communicate any playground concerns to the relevant teacher.

Oh, the Office has asked for teachers to remind parents / caregivers that they are not  to wait outside classrooms for afternoon "pick ups" ... sorry, but is it part of the Education Department's ongoing COVID policy. The advice from the Office, is to arrive in a timely manner to pick up and then depart in a manner that the minimum physical proximity is made with other community members.

Thank you for your time.

Class 3H Newsletter...

Dear Parents/Care Givers,

A warm welcome to the 3H newsletter! Where to begin? 2021 has started with so many positives. I would like to commend parents from the start for punctuality. All 3H students are on time by 09.00 a.m. to start the school day. Moreover, all students are in proper uniform and ready to engage in learning.

This is a time of assessment to ascertain where each student is at start of term, so our days are quite busy in my effort to maximise each child’s learning potential.

There are, as a result of Covid protocol certain practices to which we must adhere. Parents are allowed to bring their children into the school but must leave the grounds once the child is at the appropriate assembly area. Social interaction between parents shall have to remain off school area until we are differently advised by Education Queensland.

Until Day 8 our schedule is as follows: Mondays 3H students wear sports uniform for their PE lesson; Tuesdays-Fridays day uniform. Thank you for your co-operation. Beyond Day 8 things may change. You will be notified of such change, should it occur.

For our Design and Technology unit this term, 3H will work on the theme “Repurpose It.” Students will plan, design, construct and appraise a way of recycling and repurposing a piece of clothing.  To this end I ask parents if you have any denim jeans which you could please donate to our class? I refer to items you may have destined for the Op-shops.

Designated ‘School Banking’ day is Tuesday. For students wishing to use this facility they need to have deposits organised Tuesday mornings.

Since January 27, when I opened the door to your wonderful children I have been infected by the children’s enthusiasm, kindness and good manners. It is a privilege to teach as it is a privilege to learn. I have never lost sight of either.

Your’s most sincerely,

REBECCA HOKANSON

Welcome to week 2! It’s amazing how fast we are learning our routines and settling into Prep. Mrs Stockill and I are super proud of you all. We have started learning our phonics through ‘Soundwaves’ and so far we have looked at the following sounds- b- bounce balloons, c/k – crazy kites, d – ducks dive down, f – five fat fish and g – girls giggle. Please speak to your child about our sounds and see if they are able to teach you! In numeracy we are looking at numbers 0-10. We have been counting our ‘days of learning’ and when we get to 100, we are going to have a celebration. Well done to our weekly award winners – Lily (The Arts), Bella (PE) and William (LOTE).

Check out our happy snaps from the past week.

Welcome back 4R Parent and Care Givers,

This week in Math we have been working on how to use Mental Math Strategies, different multiplication strategies to help the students work on harder questions.

During out English time we are refreshing all of our basic English skills while working on upgrading our knowledge and using better words to create more engaging sentences and stories.

At the end of our English unit we will have created an imaginative new chapter for a familiar story (The Twits) which we have been reading throughout the term.

3D News!

Year three have settled into class well and have been enjoying all things Minions!

This week we have been learning about each other and revising school and class rules. It has been great to see so many students wearing the correct uniform. Homework started this week so please check with your child if they did not bring it home. Banking has also started.

It is important to remember that all students need to be at school by 8:45 am so they do not miss learning opportunities. Parents are reminded that due to Covid they may drop their child at school but then must leave the grounds. We all appreciate your cooperation!

Food Forest News

Published by Daisy Hill State School

Over the holidays our lovely new Food Forest has been growing away.  Mr Green has been helping us out by snacking on all the cucumbers, strawberry and beans that have been popping up while we were all on holidays!  This week the students have started to think about what they would like to plant this year and what we could cook with it once we harvest.  They are also looking forward to starting our composting program and looking in on the worm farms that we filled last year.  Stay tuned for more updates and photos as we get to work next week.
