INTERNATIONAL FALLS, Minn.—Voyageurs National Park is celebrating its 35th anniversary this summer.
The park is marking the event with a new 49-passenger tour boat on Rainy Lake.
The Duluth News Tribune reports the $1.4 million “Voyageur” made its maiden voyage in September and will be open for its first summer of tours this year.
Most of the 218,000-acre park is accessible only by boat.
Voyageurs Superintendent Mike Ward says the National Park Service couldn’t find a private company to own and operate the tour boat, so the Park Service will own and operate it.
Ticket prices vary. The longest trip is a 6 1/2-hour round-trip from the Rainy Lake visitors center to Kettle Falls. It costs $50 for adults and $25 for kids. Shorter trips cost about half that.
