i think refs have an unconscious bias against big / solid players.
if Harden didn't flail, he wouldn't get the calls on what are often legitimate fouls
think of Shaq in his prime. dude got mauled down low. a players' body absorbing illegal contact doesn't negate a foul. hell even the hack-a-shaq had to be super exaggerated to make sure refs didn't miss it

The replay showed a clear foul on Murray, who grabbed Harden's arm to free up the ball for that layup. So he had reason to get mad, and that wasn't the only play they got away with contact especially in the first half.
