Duchess Kate played tennis with Emma Raducanu & other British tennis stars

kate emma1

Look, you guys! The Duchess of Cambridge ALSO had an event today. Once again, I’m shocked that Kate did not retire for the rest of the week following her two events on Tuesday. Kate really is “back to work,” especially since Harry and Meghan are getting so much attention in New York!

Today, Kate played tennis and she got to count it as an event. To be fair, she’s the royal patron of Wimbledon and she was highlighting the extraordinary achievements of British tennis players this year. Emma Raducanu is the Cinderella story of women’s tennis, having only turned pro this year and storming her way to the US Open title as a qualifier. Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid completed their calendar Grand Slam in wheelchair tennis at the US Open, and they also took home the silver medal in wheelchair tennis at the Tokyo Paralympic Games. Joe Salisbury is one of the best doubles players in the world, and he won the Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles titles at the US Open this year, as well as the Wimbledon Mixed Doubles title. They’re all massive global tennis stars, and Kate… also wore her tennis gear.

I mean, I actually find it cute that Kate stans tennis players so much. She seems genuinely thrilled for Emma especially. But it did feel like Kate really wanted to wear her little tennis skirt! Whew. (Joe Salisbury looks PAINED in one of the photos, below, and it’s cracking me up so much.)

Her skin looks SO good. What is she doing?!

    • OriginalLala says:

photoshop. Its well known that her official pics are ‘shopped to high heaven. So I’d guess Photoshop and a new round of fillers, treatments etc.

    • Becks1 says:

      facials, botox, photoshop

    • Seraphina says:

I recall reading from individuals who have seen her up close are quite shocked at the amount of editing done to photos. Maybe that is why her PR team is so bad, they are exhausted with all the photoshopping they have to do to her pics.

    • MMadison says:

Once again Kate is playing…..Sports. First it was biking, than rock climbing, followed by a day on the water now…Tennis! Kate truly represents all that is Salty Island. No substance. Just a tiny Island trying to swim with the big continents

    • Nic919 says:

The closer photos are from Chris Jackson and he photoshops her face to no end. There is a reason why he is always on hand for her few engagements.

    • Jaded says:

You should see un-photoshopped photos of her, it’s a world of difference. Too much sun-tanning, smoking and staying impossibly thin have really done a job on her skin. It look like leather.

      • Caro says:

I hear about the smoking thing often, and am genuinely just curious if we have any photos/hard evidence of her smoking? Would love to see those!

      • Nic919 says:

Most of the photos are scrubbed but she was seen with a cigarette pack a few times during the clubbing decade.

Jaded I believe you saw her in person when they toured BC which was already several years ago.

      • Jaded says:

@Nic919 — yes, it wasn’t very close but she looked over-made up and hard, and shockingly thin. She was wearing a skin tight blue outfit but what I really noticed was her neck, it looked scrawny like a chicken neck. At least her hair was up and her skirt wasn’t billowing up around her ears.

    • DuchessL says:

Her pics are photoshopped to the max.

  2. Noki says:

She should have put tape over her ring while playing. She looks nice though!

    • Seraphina says:

She would get some respect from me is she took that ring off for some events. She wore it at the bike riding event as well. It’s like she constantly wants to remind the audience, and us, of it. I picture her acting like Smeagol from Lord of the Rings and calling it “my precious”. And Ma Middleton right behind her mouthing the words.

      • Same says:

I’m sure the ring she wears in the daily is a copy of the original – I’m sure it is a genuine stone but I’d guess the original only comes out for state functions (if then). Having said that, I don’t get the criticism for wearing her engagement ring . I wear my full set every day and yes, I play sports, get muddy, garden, scuba dive etc. they wash

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

My ring is like “the ring of doom” as it’s a cocktail 4 carat aquamarine. They are chunky! It gets in the way. I cringe when it clicks against the far door from grabbing the handle.
Point I’m making is rings of that size are not practical to wear every day. You never forget you’re wearing it and it will snag hair and get caught against something and tug at your finger. Kate makes the choice to wear it always even if not appropriate like in sailing.

    • Dee says:

I’m sure it’s a copy. Diana’s ring is in a super secret safe somewhere only the grey men know.

      • Noki says:

@ Dee as in she has never worn the original ?

      • Dee says:

That’s my theory. Diana’s ring is priceless because it was worn by Diana. It’s in a safe somewhere. Kate was given and wears a real sapphire made like it. She wears it playing tennis, sticks it into the dough with the Scouts, wears it ziplining, sailing and when shaking hands in crowds. How easy would it be for that ring to slip off and get damaged, lost or stolen? Engagement story has Bill taking it in a backpack to another continent and proposing in the wild. I say the original hasn’t left the safe. Does Kate know she’s wearing a copy? Not sure. Someone who is better at jewelry than me once noticed a slight difference in Kate’s ring (something about the prongs, but I don’t know enough to really say so). If that ring really is the original, she’s treating it badly and not afraid of losing it.

      • GraceB says:

Maybe she wears a replica sometimes but I doubt they’ve really got the men in grey suits with the original under lock and key, or switched it without her knowing. Priceless or not, it’s part of their personal collection, rather than being owned by the crown.

      • Jan90067 says:

There was an article saying DIANA had the setting changed, and added the extra prongs.

Here’s one of the articles about it:

        https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/royals-didnt-approve-princess-dianas-22982970

    • Muisje says:

Thats what I think all the time. This ring makes me really angry by now 😀
I’m fine with her wearing it on some occasions like… I dunno. Church outings or Trooping or indoorevents. But on outdoorevents? Come on. Didnt she even wear it when she was playing with the mud last year on that lets grow something event?

    • Fortuona says:

well Emma was wearing a big ass Tiffany ring when she won her title

  3. Pocket Litter says:

Things that pass for work for those people.

    • LoonyTunes says:

Exactly. What is the purpose of these people? Why would any taxpayers want the burden of supporting them, so they can play tennis and talk football??

      • BayTampaBay says:

Tennis & Football are big money making industries in the Sports Industrial Complex. I have no problem with Kate promoting tennis especially UK Tennis. Kate is better at promoting tennis than Baldingham is at promoting football.

      • StartupSpouse says:

@BayTampaBay, I said this on the other thread, but the problem for the Cambridges is the juxtaposition of this story with M&H hosting a WHO roundtable on vaccine equality.

If W&K want to compete with M&H (they say they don’t, but they do) then they are going to have to step it up like 8 notches.

      • Amy Too says:

I keep thinking that most of the events that Kate does could be done equally well by a charismatic local news reporter. The reporter could play tennis with these tennis stars and a segment could be run about how amazing UK tennis was this year. A reporter could have done the event on the boat with the Holocaust survivors and we would have gotten to actually hear what was said. A reporter could go bike riding, or volunteer at a baby bank, or visit first responders, or promote a suicide hotline. She could attend awards shows and movie premieres. If it’s all just raising awareness and getting some PR for local charities and causes, a news reporter would even do it better because she would A) actually speak on camera about the initiatives and interview the people running them and B) the resulting coverage would not all be about what she was wearing. Her events would also not be press embargoed or only posted on social media. She could do follow up segments and follow a particular cause or charity.

A random local news reporter could not do the things Harry and Meghan do, though. She might be able to visit SmartWorks but wouldn’t be able to launch an entire capsule collection. She might be able to visit Hubb Kitchen but wouldn’t be able to compile and sell a cookbook. She could talk about the vaccine effort but not get herself into the UN or the WHO to spearhead distribution plans with world leaders. A news reporter couldn’t do sentebale or Invictus. The Sussexes DO things.

Kate visits things. Looks at things. Has her picture taken near things.

      • Nic919 says:

Tennis remains a sport mostly accessible to the elite, especially at the upper levels, so what is Kate doing other than posing for photos? If she truly cared about anything but tagging on to the latest popular thing, she would help set up something for kids who don’t have parents who can afford to bring them to a private tennis club.

      • MF1 says:

@Amy Too: that’s a great analysis. Kate’s basically an ornament used to draw people’s attention and even that she’s not very good at. Whereas H&M produce things that have a tangible impact on the world.

      • Becks1 says:

@AmyToo that is a great comparison and something I’ve never thought of before. Who draws attentions to local events and organizations in my area? The local news reporters (or national, if its a bigger event on a national level.) And its more in depth than what Kate does, because its more than some pictures and its not focused on “The Duchess of Cambridge met with X organization today” and that’s it.

That said – I saw a reporter on Twitter who interviewed Emma at this event, and his tweet said something about him, Emma, his hair, and oh yeah the Duchess played some tennis. It was so shady and I died.

      • Jais says:

Becks1- do you have a link to that tweet or the name of the reporter so I can look it up?
Also, does anyone know if there is an organization that raises funds for kids who can’t afford it to play tennis in the UK? There must be, I’d think?
@Nic919- Ok just scrolled down and saw someone mention Sports Aid! It was @Catherine

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

        BayTampaBay
But as always Kate promotes Kate. No follow up to her events or causes ever happens and her visit impacts have been proven to not matter. It’s all just to promote her as someone who cares and is valuable to the taxpayers.

      • Becks1 says:

@Jais – it was from Jordan Jarrett-bryan, his handle is _JordanJBryan (I can’t link to twitter from this computer)

ETA hahaha I just looked at the tweet again and he also said #meghanmarkle which I find hilarious as hell but some are not happy

      • BothSidesNow says:

@ AmyToo, your entire breakdown of how little to non-existent of learning of what KKKeens engagements, her “projects/patronage’s” has me looking at her exactly as what she is, nothing more than a prop!! Not to enlighten or promote actual change/awareness, solely an opportunity for photos. We learned nothing from her engagement with the Holocaust survivors that she met with last week. All we got was them in a boat and chatting!! An opportunity to share their history and how the Holocaust impacted them during this specific scenario is lost. A tremendous waste as we learned nothing about their story and perspective which may be forever lost within a matter of days, months or years.

The Monarch has spent millions of pounds each year, a decade, on a a prop to further FFKween, nothing more than an heir and two spares. In addition, KKKween is a self absorbed, petty, jealous, vindictive, useless, selfish, and utterly stupid for all matters regarding the CW and it’s citizens. Those who are paying for her lifestyle are throwing money down the drain.
In addition to their PM trying to convince all the cuts on supplemental income is clear statement that no one in the Monarchy or those in power, care about the peasants or their livelihood.

      • Amy Too says:

Honestly, they could replace Kate with one woman they pay less than $100k a year and get better results. She would buy her own clothing with her own money. She would pay for her own children’s schooling and clothing and vacations and transportation with her own money. She would pay for her own housing and feeding. She wouldn’t need all the security. She would work more than 50 days a year doing more than 100 visits/engagements/stories a year. She would pay for her own vacations and would get around 6-8 weeks off spread throughout the year (and even when she was on vacation they could run re-runs of some of her segments or have the producer go do a follow up with one of the charities she visited before) as opposed to taking 1-2 months off straight a few times a year. It’s ridiculous how much money the entire Cambridge family costs for what they actually do. Value for money is completely out of whack.

      • Fortuona says:

        Nic919

It cost Emma £200 a year to play at ‘a big fancy club’ and then Sport Aid/LTA paid her travelling expenses . Tennis gets less because of how much Wimbledon brings in

Sport is financed differently in Britain because of the Lottery . Most of the people at the Olympics/Para Games were financed out of that and once you make enough in prize money/sponsorships other people then get it

      • Jais says:

@becks1- finally looked up that tweet and it was epic omg. After a few lines about he and Emma discussed sexual violence against women, he literally says: “Oh and the Duchess of Cambridge hit some balls too.” Then, like you said, he ended the tweet with #meghanmarkle. Am dying that was so good. Thank you for sharing it!

  4. Cynthia says:

    This woman is so embarassing

    • JMoreno says:

I wonder what was the first thing they came to mind when The Queen from Windsor, Charles from Clarence House and William from his side piece read …”Kate plays tennis” as they recalled the Sussex’s yesterday. Did they think.. great MEGAN meets with world leaders and Kate’s meeting with an 18 year old tennis player. Is this the imagine of the Royal Family now? Because they must know everyone was waiting to see their response to New York.

    • UnionSnack says:

      I double this.
      Such a… you know… MINI.
Is it ok for a future future queen?
She tried to use her main threat – her legs. Pathetic.

  5. Scorpion says:

Look at Keen putting in the work 😂🤣🤭

A rising cost of living, food and gas shortages be damned, let them have tennis, she said 😂🎾

    • Mac says:

I think it’s fine to honor champion athletes who represented the UK on the world stage.

      • Snappyfish says:

I completely agree. I adore Emma & my household declared ourselves ride or die Emma during Wimbledon!!

    • notasugarhere says:

The trouble is, this is all Kate thinks she’s supposed to do. The majority of what she’s done for the past 10 years is this kind of posing. Never working, just showing up, playing to cameras, and thinking this is ‘work’. She isn’t honouring anyone here, she’s just showing up for PR.

  6. Becks1 says:

So its nice that she is honoring the British tennis players and paying respect to their hard work this year.

But something about it still comes off as “Kate wanted to play tennis and have it count as work.”

    • Nic919 says:

She went biking, did a boat ride and now played tennis. Yeah it’s doesn’t seem like work because it’s not like UK tennis has not had a huge spotlight focused on it when Emma won the US open. Kate is just clout chasing here as does William with his footie heroes.

      • Fortuona says:

She went biking/climbing with the Air Cadets and boating with survivors of the Holocaust . Shocking

    • Gina says:

      Sincere question…
Explain me how playing tennis with the glorified sportmen (or doing photo-op pretending to playing tennis) means “honoring”. What honor Kate can bestow on these players? Are Brits still thinking that the attention, even hour-long attention of “blue-blood” Royals (“blue-blood” sounds funny regarding our “regular” KKKate) means honoring? Or just highlights who are peasants and who are (undeservedly so) not?

      • Becks1 says:

@Gina I don’t know, I’m just trying to be nice lol. I get criticized for being too mean sometimes so I’m trying to find the positive haha. And I figure there are a lot of people who appreciate these kinds of events and like that royals visit with up and coming sports stars like Emma, kind of like how our governor might meet with a local Olympian or something.

And yes I’m going to assume that there are still many Brits who think that an hour with a “blue blood royal” means honoring, right? That’s why people still actually want to meet the royals? but IDK.

    • Dee says:

I see this as Kate, an amateur, inserting herself into the midst of great tennis players to give herself a boost. Honoring them would be watching them play and not making them dumb down their game to make her look good.

      • Becks1 says:

Nonsense, if Kate wasn’t playing, how could she show off her tennis outfit????

      • notasugarhere says:

Same way she ran around taking photographs of her kids in Annie L’s lighting and set design for the Queen’s portrait a couple years ago. Always taking advantage and cribbing off someone else’s accomplishments and talent.

    • Nic919 says:

Someone mentioned that Emma benefited from Sports Aid so it would have been nice if Kate had announced expanded funding or something.

      • Fortuona says:

Well the money she got was mainly from the LTA through Pro Sponsorship (and she now goes onto Elite Support as she sits at 22) to help her stay at school . The Sport Aid money came when she was under 16 and then the LTA picked her up

And as I said already Emma is a big part of LTA Youth before she won the USO

What was happening today was the LTA trying to get a bigger grant to keep park courts in decent shape and open

      • Lady D says:

It would have been a perfect opportunity for Kate to donate $25K. (insert shrug emoji)

  7. Merricat says:

Perfect example of the Cambridge brand–playing tennis with tennis stars! Talking about football! “Look at us, leading the way to…something, something…in our favorite sports!”
And across the sea, the Sussexes are working with global leaders to provide vaccines for the world.

    • Sure says:

Working royals: go bike riding, abseiling, boating; play tennis and watch football

Non-working royals: meet NY mayor and governor, convene round table discussion with WHO and hold meeting with US ambassador to UN

      • Merricat says:

        Exactly.

      • HeatherC says:

This. All day. If you found someone who lived under a rock and had no background and you showed them this post, they’d be easily able to tell who the really relevant, hard working ones are.

      • MMadison says:

        @Sure: Nothing and I mean N O T H I N G….. else needs to be said. This statement says it ALL

      • Nic919 says:

That is an excellent recap of what is going on.

      • Jaded says:

@Carolind – Meghan’s work with the Hub Kitchen and cookbook raised enough money that it now runs 7 days a week instead of 2 or 3. Meghan’s work with Smart Works has given thousands of women the opportunity to get back into the work force dressed professionally. They also provide free interview coaching so these women can hit the ground running. Their outcomes are already here, and they are making a BIG difference.

The Duke and Duchess of Dullard play tennis and go to football matches.

      • Vaca says:

And why? What do those non -working royals of one country can offer to other non-monarchy country? Just a photo op!

      • Becks1 says:

@Jaded – agree with your comment of course, just wanted to add the work that Archewell is doing with World Central Kitchen and setting up community relief centers around the world.

  8. Pao says:

Some people play tennis and some people have roundtable discussions with the WHO.

Different folks, different strokes i guess

    • Scorpion says:

@PAO but the BM keep telling us that the Sussexes are the ‘Hollywood’ ones. Please can someone tell me what red carpet event the Sussexes have attended since 2019???? What football/rugby or tennis matches they have attended???

      • Pao says:

When harry & Meghan attended the Lion King premiere in London in 2019, it was because money would go to African parks. A charity harry is patron of. Can somebody please explain to me what charity will benefit from the keens attending the no time to die james bond premiere coming October?

        They are a joke.

    • The Hench says:

Beautifully put @Pao! That just encapsulates it.

    • Stephanie Hawkins says:

Simple problem if the riches nations don’t listen to WHO and accuse WHO of being beholden to China . Same rich nations are not released patents or giving enough of their vaccine staches it may not matter , best to fight vaccine hesitatancy here

  9. Can’t these people help themselves? They are so bad at their job of being royals, it is honestly almost impressive. Panicking and melting down over how natural and successful the Sussex family is.

  10. Jais says:

I mean it’s one of the few times she can get away with wearing a short skirt.

    • molly says:

That’s what I thought! That hideous white skirt this week was great grandma levels, and then she comes out Thighs Blazing today. She looks great (and healthier than she did last spring(, but dang! Go, Kate!

  11. Amy Bee says:

Yeah Joe looked like he didn’t want to be there. Kate looked just as she is a posh woman who’s gone to the tennis club for her morning hit. Her tennis outfit looks brand new, as in she bought especially for this event, and apparently her shoes are Roger Federer’s new shoe with his sponsor ON. The royalists say that engagements take months to plan but given that the US Open ended 2 weeks ago, we now know that’s a lie. I remember when Harry and Meghan celebrated Pride month on Instagram and about a week later William was visiting one of the organizations that they had highlighted. The stans were adamant that the visit would have been planned months in advance and had nothing do with Harry and Meghan. Yeah that was a lie. Same goes with the Flybe stunt that was planned within days to embarrass Meghan and Harry.

    • Becks1 says:

I think engagements take months to plan for people like the Queen, Charles, Camilla, and even Anne, because their schedules are so booked and Charles and Camilla do a lot of extended regional work (like if you want them to do something in London when they are doing their annual two week stay in wales you’re probably SOL, same when they’re in Scotland for a month or two, same when they’re in cornwall for a week, etc.)

I think engagements for the Cambridges are all arranged on short notice because no one knows if they’re going to feel like actually working in any given week.

      • Amy Bee says:

        @Becks: You’re probably right.

      • BothSidesNow says:

@ Becks1 and @ AmyToo, in addition to any “engagements” that they are “worthy” for their effort to participate in. In addition to the “carrots” that are promised for their participation. Otherwise, it’s a hard pass!!

    • Nic919 says:

She shouldn’t be doing free promotion for Federer’s shoes. He’s not even British. But the Middletons have been working the Federer angle for years now.

      • Amy Bee says:

@Nic919: I wouldn’t say she’s doing a free promotion for Federer but it wouldn’t surprise me if he sent her the shoes. They’re supposed to be friends.

      • Nic919 says:

Just wearing them is giving promotion to the product though. There are normally rules for politicians about the types of gifts they can accept or have to disclose but of course the Middletons have been shady with that stuff for years. As someone who receives tax payer funds she should be following those rules, especially since she’s not even in an elected position.

      • notasugarhere says:

‘friends’? After the nasty comments Kate and Pippa were overheard saying about Federer’s wife? It is probably ‘keep your enemies closer’ angle from Federer.

      • Kay says:

She is supposed to be supporting British tennis not promoting Roger Federer. The Middletons were desperate to be friends with Roger Federer. I think Kate is infatuated with him – didn’t he get invited to Pippa’s wedding. The event was about Emma who is very popular – Kate used the event to promote herself and get good PR. That’s what they’re doing attaching themselves to celebrities and sports events/people to help and support their own Royal Brand after the whole Harry and Megan saga.

      • Fortuona says:

Do you expect her to wear Nike as that is the deal that the LTA has . And then she would be slagged off for that

And his shoes are not for sale

      • Lady D says:

Don’t actually expect anything from her anymore. She’s proven she’s lazy, she’s full of spite and she shops. That’s Kate.

  12. Erica says:

She always looks most normal, most comfortable in athletic gear. Everything else seems like a costume, like she is cosplaying a royal in the ‘50s.

  13. Lol says:

Emma’s face is so polite, lol

  14. Catherine says:

This is fine except as usual there is so much more that could have been done. So many charities they could have promoted. Wasn’t Emma sport aid recipient and Catherine is patron of that charity. They could have highlighted an adaptive sport charity. Anything, something. The organization that was part of this event was barely mentioned. So once again an opportunistic photo op. That Catherine gets to count as work.

    • Nic919 says:

Wow that is a huge miss considering Kate is a patron of Sport Aid. Shows how much work she doesn’t put in that charity either.

  15. PrincessK says:

This is hardly surprising. Kate’s handlers know that they have to keep looking for things to get Kate on the front pages, and being seen with Emma Radacanu, flavour of the month, was something that that had to target and to cement Kate’s promotion of tennis.

  16. Over it says:

Emma doesn’t appear to get the joke as much as Katie keenbridge does. I am glad that after 2 plus Long months of rest and relaxation, that Katie can play tennis and Willy can talk football. I was worried there for a bit that they might actually want to do some real work. And also Kate doesn’t appear to be giving the two Paralympian much time, maybe just like black people they also make her uncomfortable.

    • Amy Bee says:

@Over it: Kate already spoke the Hewett and Reid at Wimbledon so now need to focus on them now. It’s all about Emma don’t you know?

    • BayTampaBay says:

We seem to think around these parts that Katie & Baldingham only promote things such as sports because they are lazy. I an beginning to think that Katie and Baldingham are not mentally capable of doing much more without the potential of causing embarrassment to themselves and The Firm.

      • Becks1 says:

@Bay I am starting to think that you are right, at least in part. When they do more serious events they seem way out of their league.

      • Nic919 says:

I think it’s been obvious for a while that they are both incredibly dim. Going to university when you are a rich kid or a royal is not sign of intelligence but of connections. And they are too lazy to do the work to learn things that aren’t tennis or footie.

      • notasugarhere says:

This is why Charles should take control of their schedules and send them each out on 500 bread and butter engagements each year. Forget the attempts at big projects that are massive fails. They’re less obviously dim when pinning ribbons on prize sheep.

      • Fortuona says:

        notasugarhere

So what she did this week was for 2 of her patronages . The first for the RAF Air Cadets and the second for the LTA

  17. mariahlee says:

I just.. British taxpayers give these people millions of dollars a year to be rich, feel superior for it, and do hobbies that count as work. I will never understand it.

    • Surly Gale says:

Every Commonwealth country has to contribute to the BRF. Not just the British taxpayers.
I, for one, want that to stop. I work so damned hard; knowing Justin sends a bunch of my money to England as our “dues” just plain hurts.
I’ll have to die at work. I have no savings (it’s up, but $0.71 does not go as far as $1.00 does). It takes every penny I earn to raise my boy and feed, cloth & house ourselves. As sole proprietor of a miniature business w/1 employee paying the same taxes as a company with 500 (still considered a small business) my taxes are stupidly high.
      I’m so tired.

      • Canadian says:

As a Canadian, Justin does not send money to the BRF. We do pay membership fees for the Commonwealth, and the costs of the Governor General. The only time we pay direct BRF costs is if they travel to Canada. You are absolutely right about how high the taxes are!

      • goofpuff says:

Wow I didn’t know the commonwealth countries still have to pay to be a part of this! That’s crazy! Why benefit do they get out of it? Why are they still part of the commonwealth? And where does that commonwealth money go? I guess since the BRF controls it, do they get a percentage profit?

      • Jaded says:

Canadians do not give financial support to The Queen in her roles as Head of the Commonwealth, as Queen of the United Kingdom or as Sovereign of her other Realms. Nor does she receive any salary from the federal government. The only costs to us are when The Queen, members of the BRF (or any other head of state) visits Canada and the costs are strictly for security, lodging, entertainment and meals. It amounts to about $1.63 per Canadian per year.

  18. Mich says:

Frivolous. Even when she is doing something serious (which this obviously isn’t) she comes across as frivolous.

  19. dido says:

This whole thing reminds me of William (and Boris Johnson) desperately trying to steal themselves a slice of England’s glory while they were winning throughout the Euro Cup. But when they lost, gone was the support. (As well any support for BIPOC players).

In the summer when Emma had to quit Wimbledon out of anxiety, crickets from the Cambridges, even though Emma was getting vitriol from Piers Morgan and all the right-wingers. A single tweet or IG story in support would’ve shut Piers and all the haters up. Given Keen’s focus on mental health, I thought she would have SOMEthing to say. Now that Emma has won the US Open, the Cambridges show up again. Talk about a self-serving fairweather royal. They’re only here for the athletes for personal gain and to associate themselves with the athlete’s success.

  20. Eurydice says:

Poor thing, she must be exhausted.

  21. aquarius64 says:

The British tennis players should get their props but given the Sussexes’ activities this looks like a last minute scramble to get some good press. These players deserve better.

    • Fortuona says:

Well the event was a LTA Youth thing at the NTC and the rest was how to we get 4 Grand Slam wiinners in a room at the same time when all 4 are probably off on the road again next week

  22. Here4Tea says:

Why all the shade? It’s a UN – sanctioned game of tennis for the benefit of humanity.

  23. Monica says:

Someone please give Kate her participation trophy.

  24. RoyalBlue says:

Ooh this has got to sting. In their minds, they wanted the reverse; where Harry and Meghan to do the lightweight tennis and football, and for Cain and Catty to speak to world leaders.

    • Fortuona says:

But it was alright for Harry to be the patron of the RFU/RL

This a nutty . A whole bunch of sports have Royal Patrons

  25. Melly says:

A reporter on Twitter mentioned he spoke with Emma regarding sexual
Violence whilst Kate “hit some balls” The shade is exquisite.

    • The Duchess says:

Yes! I loved every bit of that tweet. The shade! The reporter also clarified that him tagging Meghan’s name was purely for satirical reasons (he’s very much a Sussex fan). All of this just shows us that Kate has fallen on her own sword. She played in a one-sided competition and now look at her. Nobody is checking for her and now she’s stuck doing her lazy, PR stunts that nobody cares about. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

  26. Gina says:

I enjoyed the comments today. It seems not only me felt annoyed by this apparently pointless events. None of them has meaning, apart from the attempt of riding on coattails of the other’s fame and achievements. This is the style of Cambridges’ “work”.
Amy Too said this the best:
“The Sussexes DO things. Kate visits things. Looks at things. Has her picture taken near things.” Same for her husband, TOB.
The work Sussexes are doing in New-York now just underlines the difference between two couple, puts these co-called events of Cambridges in ridiculous light.

    • HeatherC says:

But it could have been something, if only she had done some work. She could have used the opportunity to spotlight women in sports, or Sports Aid, or British tennis, or something. Instead Emma did the hard hitting interview and Kate hit some balls. This was a huge opportunity missed.

  27. Marivic says:

How can almost 20 poor African countries of the British Commonwealth support and fund a specific wealthy group of entitled elite in the UK? Africa needs all the money they can generate to support themselves to get out of poverty, thrive and be productive. How can these countries support a racist monarchy that looks down on them and discriminates against them ?

    • Linda says:

      @MARIVIC
This is 2021, pls give the whole “poor African countries “ trope a rest. It’s incredibly insulting.

    • Fortuona says:

They don’t give anything and neither does Canada,NZ,South Africa or Australia. They pay there Commonwealth dues and that is that ,andthe Queen is paid out of the deal they made 250 years ago

And Rwanda and Mozambiqe chose to join though neither of them was a part of the empire

  28. Flying Fish says:

What was the point of this event, was it so the Kate can play tennis in a twee tennis skirt?
Kate had a 2 two month vacation and is back playing tennis…the bar has been lowered to the ground!

    • L4frimaire says:

I’m not into her but the players seem happy to get the attention and some press. They deserve the recognition for their accomplishments and their flowers, although these things tend to benefit the royals more than those at these events. This is the type of appearances she likes and seems comfortable doing as part of her patronages- being the cheerleader. To quote Rajesh Thind ,” her cheery, breathless jolly hockey sticks shallowness ” . That’s her wheelhouse. It seems a bit extra her playing tennis with the US Open champion, that’s pure vanity, but it gives the photographers some. Good shots.

    • Fortuona says:

It was for LTA Youth of which Kate is patron(well of the LTA anyway ) and Emma is its ambassador and has been since April . So the whole thing is about getting more kids involved in Tennis

  29. Isabella says:

Sporty Kate is the best Kate. She always looks comfortable–especially when William isn’t around.

    • Gina says:

Whose life becomes better after Kate’s sport activities? What was the goal? To show her legs in short tennis skirt?
Not many women with 3 kids have the ability, time and means to invest in oneself’s appearance and physical training. So, apart from apparently good genes she just shows how incredibly priviledged she is. And immature to boot – woman in her 40th (or near) is better not “play” for the public with professionals. She definitely has this trait – exhibitionism.
Sorry if I’m too harsh. I have no patience for bullsh-t today.

      • Eurydice says:

The monarchy doesn’t exist to make anyone’s life better, it exists in order to exist, and to perpetuate the glory of…well, not the British Empire, because there’s no such thing anymore…I guess the glory of all the stuff that they own. It’s really a legacy of things over people.

      • Same says:

I’m just gonna say … yes, women with 3 children ( gasp , sometimes more! ). Can absolutely “invest in oneself personal and physical appearance.”
Try not to shit on the rest of us in the rush to insult lazy.

Points for also pointing out gasp almost 40 and pearl clutch short skirt

  30. CrystalBall says:

Why is she wearing tennis gear designed by a French label? Her avid little fans are always praising her for flying the flag for British fashion, go figure.

    • Fortuona says:

Why are the champions wearing American,German and Italian gear ?

Easy answer is because there really is no British company making tennis stuff anymore except for Fred Perry which is chav gear that had to remove stuff from the US because of who was wearing it

  31. PoppedBubble says:

It seems they literally picked up where they left off two months ago. Football and tennis.

  32. Cathy says:

Another day, another play-date for Katie Keen. The staff at KP are working hard to get her out and about. It has to be all about her, right? To get Katie out of the house she’s got to be bribed with a new outfit or something to entertain her? She’s nearly 40, not 4. Meanwhile on the other side of the pond someone has done their research and has thoughtfully donated a washing machine and dryer to a school in a lower socio-economic area, amongst other things. The difference between the two visits speaks for itself.

  33. tamsin says:

As a Commonwealth country, we pay for a Governor General and 10 Lt. Governors General, their housing and all their staffs because the Queen is technically our head of state. So technically, we do pay for a “head of state.”

    • Fortuona says:

Depending where you are they are all citizens of your own country . So you pay for the GG but are not paying for the monarchy in the UK

  34. Marivic says:

They had to drag Kate out to drown the Harry and Meghan news. But sorry . Kate’s local power cannot overpower the duo’s global star power. The coverage of the Sussexes are global in terms of reach. They command attention. You cannot ignore them. Even the Brits can’t. That’s why they’re salty and mad.

  35. SUNNYVILE says:

Yikes🙈shamelessly clout chasing!! I felt bad for Emma & other players who had to re schedule whatever they were doing for this sh*tty pr stunt for kkkate
