    BW 408 Microwax

    I was just wondering if anyone has tried this stuff:

    The spec sheet (pdf file) says it's soft and tacky yet melts at 165-175F.

    I'm trying to decide whether to purchase a slab of 430 or 408. I'm thinking about blending it with beeswax and a 350F drop point lithium grease.

    No but I have tried micro 430. It is very tacky.

    I was told here to buy 430 to turn Alox 350 into a close facsimilie of Alox 2138F. Its quite tacky as Jailer says. Nice that BW has that easy to use online shop. Made it really easy.

    When I used any kind of Lithium grease in my lubes i always regretted it because of the mess it made to hands and equip. Now i buy carnauba red already made up and enjoy the sport alot more.

    You really don't need that much lithium grease and most of it will go right into solution with the beeswax when they are melted together at about 230F. The tiny lumps of grease that remain are dissolved with the addition of mineral oil or petroleum jelly while simmering and stirring. Another option is to filter out the tiny lumps by running the lube through a suitable material. Ask your wife to throw her worn out hose on your work bench instead of in the trash can. These are ideal for straining anything from latex paint to boolit lube. For a bit firmer lube combine soap to the mineral oil and/or p.j. in a separate pan and when homogeneous, add to the beeswax/grease blend... what's not to enjoy?

    i havent tried it yet but ... i'd be willing to take half a slab off your hands of either the 408 or the 431 ( the harder the better for me as i can make most waxes softer but harder is another story ) my holy grail is something close to ye olde discontinued rooster HVR , i havent found it yet ( to be fair however tho i have made some decent lubes thanks to much of the help by the fine folks here - thanks amigos !! ) PM with your addy if you want me to send a M.O.

    BW 431 needs a lot of help to make it a decent boolit lube, it's very dry and grabby. It needs another soft wax and some heavy oil to give it any sort of lubricating qualities whatsoever.
