Physicians' Balint Group JAN-APR
What is a Balint group?
A Balint Group meets regularly to present clinical cases in order to improve and understand the clinician-patient relationship better. While clinicians are usually trained to seek the right answer to clinical problems, in a Balint Group the focus is on enhancing the clinician’s ability to connect with and care for the patient. Balint Groups are participatory and experiential. Balint Groups provide an opportunity to develop insight into the interpersonal aspects of professional practice and to become more empathetic with patients, students and oneself.

Please use this form to register for the Spring 2024 Balint group cycle. This will be a closed, eight-session group that meets biweekly beginning on WED JAN 17th, 12:00-1:15pm EST. Physicians across Canada are welcome to attend.

METHOD The group (of 8-10 physicians) will begin with a very brief introduction of participants. One participant will be invited to be the presenter to share a current (or recent) patient experience that has left them feeling conflicted, confused, curious or unfinished. The group will then hold the experience and process it in a way that surfaces multiple perspectives, feelings, images, memories, and considerations. Balint groups are not designed to problem solve but rather to reflect.
