My Magazine is another new feature in the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. It’s actually a pretty cool feature. It’s almost like Samsung saw Flipboard and HTC’s Blink Feed and thought “we need that” and created My Magazine. However there are some features of My Magazine that I feel Blink Feed is missing. To get to My Magazine you simply either tap the home button to go home, then tap it again (if you tap it twice quickly, you’ll end up in S Voice). Also if you are home, you can swipe up from the bottom to jump into My Magazine really quick. Once you’re inside My Magazine there are four sections. News, Personal, Here and Now, and Social. Which each of these can be personalized.
In the news section you can choose to show news from News, Technology, Top Picks, Sports, Business, Design, Photography, Style, Travel, Politics, food, Music, Movie, Games, Automotive, Science, Home and Celebrity. So there’s lots to choose from. For me, I just have News, Technology, Top Picks and Sports enabled. Jumping into the Personal section, you can see stuff from your calendar, ChatOn, Email, Gallery, Messaging, Music, Phone, S Health, S Note, Scrapbook, and Video. Which I actually have them all enabled right now, but that will probably change soon. Under Here and now you can choose to see Movies, Sports, Places and daily info, which is pretty cool. Finally under social, you can connect your Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, Flickr, Tumblr, 500px, SINA Weibo, Renren and YouTube accounts. So you can see updates from each network. It’s surprising that Facebook is missing from this.
In my opinion, My Magazine is a really nice looking app that I really like using. But I do wish I could choose which feeds I see news from. Or even import my RSS feeds from Feedly since Google Reader is dead. Nonetheless, this is the first version of this app, so I’m sure it’ll get better with time. Also from the right side, there’s a drop-down arrow which allows you to quickly jump into the phone, camera, text messages, Google Now, the Internet (Samsung’s web browser) or the app drawer. Which is pretty cool if you’re trying to send a message real quick.
