The District has issued a heat emergency for today. DC Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency (DC HSEMA) activates the District of Columbia Heat Emergency Plan whenever the temperature or heat index reaches 95 degrees.
During a heat emergency, it is important to stay indoors as much as possible, stay hydrated, and wear light colored or lightweight clothing.
Please be sure to look out for your elderly and vulnerable neighbors during a heat emergency. If you see someone who needs help, contact the hyperthermia hotline at 1-800-535-7252.
For more ways to keep cool, check out the 2015 Heat Emergency Plan here.
