Madonna Sings "Imagine" In Beautiful Impromptu Tribute To Paris Terror Victims
Madonna paid tribute to the victims of last month's terror attacks in Paris with a beautiful, impromptu performance on Wednesday night at Place de la Republique, which has become a makeshift memorial for those who were killed.
Clenching her 10-year-old son David tightly, Madge sang acoustic versions of her songs "Ghosttown," "Like A Prayer," and one especially touching rendition of John Lennon's "Imagine." She was in town for the Paris stop on her Rebel Heart tour and tweeted as she left the AccorHotels Arena, inviting fans to join her and David at the Place for a sing-along.
A day after the November 13 attacks, which claimed the lives of 130 innocent people, most of whom were attending a concert at the Bataclan theatre, Madonna broke down remembering the victims in a speech to Rebel Heart concertgoers in Stockholm:
"It's been very hard for me to get through this show up to this point and not forget about what happened last night, so I need to take this moment to acknowledge the tragedy, the tragic killings, assassinations and the senseless endings of precious life that occurred last night in Paris. Why am I up here dancing and having fun when people are crying over the loss of their loved ones?
However, that is exactly what these people want to do. They want to shut us up. They want to silence us. And we won't let them. We will never let them! Because there is power in unity and I do believe that as much chaos and pain and senseless violence and terrorism that occurs around this world – not just in Paris – as much as that does occur, there is more goodness in this world. We are here to prove it."
