PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Greetings, Bulldogs!

STAKEHOLDER INPUT SESSIONS ON OAKLAND TECH’S REOPENING SCHEDULE FOR 2021-2022

Now that the situation in California is moving in the direction of safety for most in-person gatherings, we want to begin gathering input from students, parents, and families regarding the schedule that we plan to adopt for reopening in August. Together with the Superintendent and the Oakland Education Association, we are planning for full in-person instruction.

Our proposed schedule was discussed by our Instructional Leadership Team on April 26, and we held our first teacher input session on Thursday, April 29. Our first virtual forum for students on the new schedule will be Tuesday, May 4, followed by our family forum on Thursday, May 6. Our second community forum will be on Thursday, May 13.

Students: To request an invitation to the Zoom forum with the Principal on Tuesday, May 4, use your OUSD email address and submit this survey: Student Forum, May 4, 2:00-3:00pm - Interest. The capacity is limited to 300 students. Please only submit one survey per person.

Families: To request an invitation to the Zoom forum with the Principal on Thursday, May 6, submit this survey: Family Forum, May 6, 7:00-8:00pm - Interest. The capacity is limited to 300 participants. Please use an email address that is linked to your Aeries Portal account so we can avoid Zoom bombing.

We expect that the administration will adopt the 2021-2022 bell schedule by May 21.

2021 YEARBOOKS NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER

The yearbook class faced many challenges this year producing the 2021 yearbook. It is quite different from previous books produced by Oakland Tech students. Because of the pandemic and the limited number of photos, we recommend previewing the book before you purchase. A full preview, FAQ section and order link can viewed on the yearbook page of the website and below. Purchase by Monday, May 10 for the lower price.

GIFT CARDS FOR THE BULLDOG CLOSET

The Bulldog Closet is still in need of support. It is a Tech run resource that provides hygiene products, clothing items, school supplies, and other grab-and-go items such as laundry detergent for members of the Tech community experiencing housing insecurity or whose families do not have the resources to purchase these items themselves.

If you would like to donate a Safeway or Target gift card you can go to giftcardmall.com, search for Target or Safeway, designate an amount, and send it directly to Amanda Epperson, our school nurse, at amanda.epperson@ousd.org.

WORK-BASED LEARNING INFO - RECAP FROM PTSA MEETING

The April 20th PTSA meeting featured a ton of great information about Work-Based Learning (WBL) resources and opportunities available for your student. We reviewed all of the new WBL pages on the Oakland Tech Web site. If you missed the previous announcement about the new WBL webpages, here is a link: Work-Based Learning – Resources for Oakland Tech Students »

Our special guests at the meeting were Terrance Holliday, Oakland Tech’s Work-Based Learning Liaison, and Greg Cluster, OUSD’s Work-Based Learning Coordinator. Here is a link to their presentation at the meeting: Tech PTSA Work-Based Learning Slides – 4/20/21 »

As you’ll see in the slides, the district’s program ECCCO Internship Support Program provides coaching and guidance to internship hosts and stipends to student interns. One key topic was the request for internship leads. Please take a minute to review this information to see if your organization or one you are familiar with could host an intern: OUSD Information for Prospective 2021 Internship Hosts »

OUSD’s Web site also has lots of great information: Summer 2021: Host interns through OUSD’s ECCCO Program! »

If you’re ready to receive more information about hosting an intern, please complete this form: Oakland Youth Need You! »

If you can’t host an intern, please consider donating to the ECCCO program via the Oakland Public Education Fund: ECCCO Donation Page »

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: COLLEGE & CAREER CENTER UPGRADE
PROJECT 2021

Thanks to the 2020 Auction Raise-the-Paddle, the Oakland Tech PTSA has funds to upgrade the technology in the College and Career Center. The funds we raised will allow us to purchase new equipment and further upgrade / remodel the space in the CCC.

This project will entail a few meetings (Zoom to start), some flex-time research and communication, and then some on-site work over the summer when it is COVID-safe. Our goal is to complete everything in time for the new school year. If you are interested in working on this project, please complete this form so we know how and when you can be involved.

BTW, if you are part of a team (e.g. married couple volunteering together), please be so kind as to complete separate forms! Only one form per volunteer.

Please contact project lead Elizabeth Falkner with any questions.  cmc@oaklandtech.com
