Killeen Creators MISSION is to combat Food Insecurity, Post Traumatic Stress, and Disenfranchisement.

Our OAR (Operation Art of Recovery) program is a veteran led 7-week sessions of Art Lessons in a trauma informed therapeutic environment. Participants will learn and practice drawing, painting and other mediums, both in our Studio & in our Community Garden. The goal of OAR is to increase internal comfort and resiliency through therapeutic art and community connections. The focus is more on having an enjoyable time and building internal "recovery capital", but beautiful art pieces will emerge! Veterans trained as Peer Professionals will be on hand to help process difficult memories and emotions as they arise.

PROCESS

1. Complete this Intake & Referral form and submit it to outreach@killeencreators.org

2. You will hear back within 7 business days to complete next Intake steps.

3. Once enrollment is confirmed, we will be in touch to let you know the start date of your session (If that class is full, we will let you know the start of the next session.

4. If there is room, participants are allowed to sign-up for multiple sessions over the year; should there be a waiting list, priority will be given to people who have not yet participated.

5. Communication regarding changes or updates between classes will occur via email and our Facebook page.

6. Sessions happen on Fridays from 4:00pm - 6:00pm at our studio (701 N. 10th St.)

All OAR participants are also invited n the meantime, please feel free to come to any of our Open Studio or Community Garden Gathering Days or Sign Up for any of our Classes, Workshops, or Groups on our Calendar!

While there is NO required FEE for our OAR members, we greatly appreciate any donations to help cover space and related costs for providing the services, and we invite you to become a Killeen Creators Member!

Our Members can participate in ALL our events and classes for no extra fee AND get to vote on agency strategic priorities. You can sign-up to become a Member here: Whether you can contribute time, $3 a month or $30 a month, we are grateful for your membership!!!
