Last week, D.C. Office on Aging Executive
Director John M. Thompson, Ph.D. hosted his quarterly roundtable discussions
with seniors at Model Cities, Congress Heights, and Hayes Senior Wellness Center, and also gave insight of the services and programs that DCOA offers at DPR's Ft. Stevens Senior Center and Deanwood Recreational Center.
Few major topics of discussion
included:
- Increasing DCOA's Ambassador's Program to utilize the resources provided to reach over one hundred and three thousand seniors in the District of Columbia to improve independence & quality of life for seniors;
- Expanding the hours of operation and extending the days of service at each senior wellness center to improve health and wellness and to improve life expectancy;
- Utilizing resources for seniors to use DCOA's congregate meal sites to ensure that no senior goes hungry in the District of Columbia.

Be there when Ms. Senior D.C. Nancy A. Berry crowns Ms. Senior D.C. 2014 at the Ms. Senior D.C. Pageant. The Pageant will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2014, 2:30 p.m. at the University of the District of Columbia, 4200 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Building 46, Main Auditorium. Six District women age 60 and older will compete for the title of Ms. Senior D.C. and present their philosophy of life, talent and evening gown during the competition.

Nancy Berry was interviewed on Huffington Post Live with newly crowned Ms. New York Senior America Jane Rubinstein; Ms. California Senior America Alise Richel Adler and the New York State Pageant Director Marlene Schuss. The women discussed post-60 pageants, ways they stay healthy and how the definition of beauty evolves with age.

This June is the inaugural Alzheimer’s

On Saturday, June 21, the D.C. Office on Aging participated in the North Michigan Park Friends
and Family Day with an informational booth of resources available for Ward 5 residents.
North Michigan Park Civic Association celebrated a fun afternoon of games, crafts, talent shows, entertainment, health screenings, refreshments, music and much more! District seniors were able to showcase their homemade quilts.
