Penang cops nab serial drug offender, this time for allegedly processing heroin

GEORGE TOWN: Police have arrested a 40-year-old man, who has been in and out of jail for drug offences, for allegedly processing heroin in his Seberang Jaya home.

Penang police chief Datuk Khaw Kok Chin said the unemployed man was busted during an operation on Thursday and Friday (May 25 and 26).

"Three raids were done during the two-day operation which led to the suspect's arrest after equipment to process heroin was found in his double-storey terrace house.

"His arrest led us to a car in Prai. Checks on the vehicle found a slab of heroin weighing 7.4kg and worth RM61,420.

"The suspect, who tested positive for drugs, has 12 offences on his record, mostly involving drugs," he added.

"He was arrested multiple times and we suspected that he was still active after being released (the last time)," he told a press conference at state police contingent headquarters here on Monday (May 29).

The suspect has since been remanded until June 1 to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

On a separate matter, Khaw said police arrested 10 suspects here for allegedly operating an online gambling centre in a raid at about 3.30pm last Thursday.

"The suspects, two men and eight women aged 20 to 30, were arrested with items such as cellphones, computers, a duty roster and conversation scripts.

"They would be provided with contact numbers of targets overseas by agents from different locations and make calls offering the online gambling service.

"The case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 and the suspects have been released on police bail pending investigations," he said.

Khaw also said that on Sunday (May 28), police pursued two pickup trucks and caught up to one of them, arresting two suspects for alleged phone cable theft.

"Police on patrol tried to stop the two trucks at Kampung Pongsu Seribu near Kepala Batas.

"After a chase, police managed to detain two men aged 29 and 30 with 52 phone cables in the truck.

"Both suspects have three and 15 offences on their respective records and have been remanded until June 1 to facilitate investigations, as their accomplice is still at large," he said.
