Trio 2 (Anthony Davis, James Newton, Abdul Wadud; Gramavision).

This is an elegant, highly refined recording from the intersection of European art music and American jazz. Piano, flute and cello, the combination is subtle, yet close to both traditions. Composition is clearly important in the selection of works, which were all written by the performers (except for one by Roland Hanna), but the spontaneity is there, too. (Reviewed on CD.)
