An Aurora teenager was being held Monday on attempted-murder charges, and two other men were being detained after two unrelated downtown shootings Sunday and Monday in Aurora.

Jason A. Phillips, 19, of the 100 block of Seminary Avenue was being held in lieu of $150,000 bail at Kane County Jail in Geneva. He also was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon.

He allegedly fired shots early Sunday at two Aurora men, ages 20 and 29, as they left a restaurant in the 0-99 block of North Lincoln Avenue at downtown’s eastern edge.

The two men, who were not injured, ran to their car while Phillips allegedly fled south and hid in a window well in the 0-99 block of South 4th Street, where he was arrested.

Police recovered a handgun in McCarty Park along the path Phillips is believed to have taken, police said.

Police also were holding a 22-year-old West Chicago man and a 21-year-old Aurora man in connection with a shooting early Monday that slightly injured two men from Sheridan.

A 25-year-old man was treated at Provena Mercy Center for wounds to the left forearm and upper right arm, and a 20-year-old man was treated at that hospital for a wound to his right forearm. Both were released.

The two men were in a vehicle heading south on the 100 block of North Broadway when another vehicle pulled alongside and its occupants fired several shots, police said.

Less than 90 minutes later, police stopped a car at Galena Boulevard and Locust Street that fit the description of the vehicle from which the shots were fired and took the two suspects in for questioning, police added.

No charges were filed as of late Monday afternoon, police said.

Police were asking anyone with information on Monday’s shooting to contact the lead investigator at 630-801-6567 or, if the caller wished to remain anonymous, Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at 630-892-1000.
