A.J. Pierzynski got an assist Sunday from Johnny Damon. The White Sox catcher was serving as manager for the team of Dale Torborg, Chris Sabin and Sonjay Dutt in a six-man match at TNA Wrestling’s “Turning Point” pay-per-view event in Orlando. When it looked desperate for his guys, Pierzynski was handed a home plate by Damon, who was sitting in the front row along with the Sox’s Chris Widger and Brian Anderson. Pierzynski whacked Simon Diamond over the head with the plate en route to the win. “I was a lot more nervous doing this than I was in the World Series–way, way, way more nervous,” Pierzynski said. “These guys are great athletes. They’re amazing at what they do, so it was nerve-racking.” Damon had no problem siding with Pierzynski, though the White Sox eliminated Boston from the playoffs. “He looked awesome in the ring,” Damon said.
