Pussy Galore

Named after one of James Bond`s femme fatales, Pussy Galore is a Washington, D.C., band that in recent years has become the talk of New York City`s underground. Its reputation spread like mold a few years ago when the group trashed the Rolling Stones` classic ”Exile on Main Street” on a limited-edition cassette. Lately, they`ve become known as the ultimate garage- rock experience: Lead singer Jon Spencer spits out four-letter words the way most people breathe, Bob Bert bangs away on garbage cans instead of drums, and three guitarists play loud, nasty, out-of-tune blues riffs. The uninitiated will be repulsed, but more adventurous fans will enjoy the tortured Iggy Pop-isms of ”Hang On” and the three-chord raveup ”Dick Johnson.”
