A few years ago, Alex Rodriguez signed a deal that pays him more than a billion quarters over 10 years ($252 million). With so much change, you wouldn’t blame A-Rod for believing his face was on the currency. Well, now it is. The National Collector’s Mint on Tuesday breathlessly announced a “limited advance release” of 5,000 special New York state A-Rod quarters honoring the next “Pride of the Yankees.” Their words, not ours. This is a real quarter with a color portrait of A-Rod on one side. The company says “issue price” will be set at $19 per coin, but for a limited time the cost is $9.95.
