Hope 34, Ill. Benedictine 0: Brandon Graham rushed for 107 yards and three touchdowns for Hope in Lisle.

Ill. Wesleyan 56, T. More 11: Deon Hornsby rushed for 244 yards, the second-highest total in school history, as Illinois Wesleyan opened its season in Bloomington, Ill.

Hornsby needed just 14 carries to gain his yardage, second only to Chris Humbles’ 273 in 1991. He had touchdown runs of 60 and 11 yards and also caught a 1-yard TD pass from Lon Erickson.

Erickson was 15 of 21 for 176 yards and two touchdowns as Illinois Wesleyan gained 605 yards to 269 for Thomas More (0-2).

Wartburg 17, Augustana 14: In Waverly, Iowa, Brian Nelson threw two touchdown passes to give coach Steve Hagen a victory in his debut with the Knights.

Augustana (0-1) led 6-0 at halftime after a 1-yard touchdown run by Jim Tumilty in the second quarter. But Wartburg (1-0) came back for three scores in the third quarter. Nelson threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Steve Carr, then one of 29 yards to Trevor Shannon. Eric George added a 38-yard field goal.

In the fourth quarter, Augustana’s Jim King scored on an 8-yard pass from Pat Fitzgerald.
