A 7th-grader at a St. Charles middle school who collapsed and died at a school roller-skating party in Batavia had a history of heart trouble, authorities said Thursday.

Marisol Reyes, 12, a student at Thompson Middle School, was pronounced dead about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday after she collapsed at Funway Ultimate Entertainment Center, 1335 S. River St., said District 303 Supt. Donald Schlomann.

There were 140 students at the party. Counselors went to the skating rink to meet the students and were working with them and staff Thursday, Schlomann said.

“Basically, she had a history of cardiac problems, and her death was caused as a result of those cardiac problems,” said Kane County Coroner Charles West.
