Two girls, ages 1 and 2, were killed in a fire Saturday on the South Side. Their mother, who had a history of complaints against her from a child- welfare agency, was being questioned by police for possible charges of child endangerment.

One-year-old Sheila Johnson and her sister, Tiara, who were home alone at the time, died when the room in which they were sleeping caught fire.

The girls` mother, Arlene Johnson, 21, was in the Brighton Park Area police station for questioning, Sgt. George Owen said.

She had been the subject of two complaints filed with the Department of Children and Family Services for leaving the children with inadequate supervision, Owen said.
